  i completely get where you're coming from - comfort is everything when you're dealing with chronic stuff. for that plush sink-in feel you're describing, check out la-z-boy's plushier models (not all are the recliner style). their deep seating sectionals with down-blend cushions are what you're after. also, room & board has some great velvet options that are super soft and hold up well. if you're near an arhaus, their deep seating sofas are incredible but might stretch your budget. one tip: look for '8-way hand-tied' construction - it's a sign of quality that lasts. and always test in person if you can, especially for that 'sink-in' feel.

  Please help! Which couch (store)

  We moved to a new house in 2006, with a 9 year old, and a year later had a dog. We bought a LaZBoy special offer couch, leather, available in only one color. It was only 1k, lasted about 10 years, my husband replaced one reclining mechanism twice, but the first time was by LaZBoy, and the second they sent the parts free, and he replaced them himself. We gave the couch away after 10 years, it was worn, needed a deep clean, but probably had a few more decent years in it. Replaced with a Rooms 2 Go sectional, that was expensive for what it was , but was insanely comfortable. Unfortunately the cushion fabric started to tear at the seams after 3 years, magically a month after the warranty expired. I bought the cushion covers online, and we dealt with it until we. Moved last year. Decided to go back to LaZBoy, did the custom design, with upgraded cushions. A year later I am unhappy with how they are aging. Cushioning is disappearing in the spots we sit in regularly, and after spending 9k on a chair and couch, I don’t know what to do. In the end maybe it would have made more sense to go to Ashley or Havertys and not worry about tossing in 5 Years? My MIL just replaced her 25+ year old couch, not because it worn, but because she was tired Of the floral fabric, and reupholstering was 2x the cost of buying new.

  Walter E. Smithe has good quality furniture. There is also a clearance center if your budget is tight. Steinhafel’s is also decent but customer service is dismal. LaZBoy has surprisingly good quality too. Avoid Bob’s or Ashley unless you’re just looking for cheap stuff. Best wishes.

  If you want a comfortable chair for your grandmother, consider the La-Z-Boy recliner or Homall Gaming Recliner both are inexpensive but offer good back support and a comfortable seat. I bought a similar one for a relative she now sleeps in it for hours and says it's like sitting on a cloud. The main thing is to make sure the backrest is high and the seat isn't too soft.

  Try Lazy Boy- we have a sofa and loveseat from Lazy Boy (non-reclining, just a sofa) and it is one of the best made sofas we have had- feels like a quality piece of furniture.

  Which recliner would be the best ones for new parents?

  I’m someone who usually regrets purchases but this is not one of them! And we looked at nursery rocking chairs and felt like they were expensive for what they were and going with the lazy boy we could get the same plus more functions for around the same price and get different styles/colours, we got it in mustard yellow and the lines have a mid century vibe which is the theme of our house.

  Lazyboy! 😃 I got it a second hand couch and recliner. Both are over a decade old. We use it everyday for a couple of hours, kids jump on it, spilt stuff on it, it still looks brand new and very comfy.

  If you're looking for BIFL, La-Z-Boy is the way to go. I bought a reclining leather couch and love seat (manual, not electric) from La-Z-Boy and they're the most durable furniture I've ever owned. I was never a fan of leather because I hate how it would eventually rip and just get worse over time. I have three dogs and two boys and for the past 4 years haven't had a single issue.

  I bought a recliner in 2018, looking to replace it. I use it every day for multiple hours. I feel like seven years has been a good run. Will look at La-z-boy again. I feel like a lot of people don’t know how to do maintenance on the recliner. Mine started to squeak and I took some white lithium grease and sprayed it and I never heard a noise ever again. There are moving pieces and yes, it’s simple technology but does require a maintenance on the owners part every now and then.

  Looking for a VERY pet friendly couch

  It’s not been THAT long yet, but I’ve had a La-Z-Boy couch for 4 years that I optioned the “pet fabric” and it’s been so worth it. I have 2 cats and they don’t often try to scratch it (unlike leather), and even when they have tried to scratch it, it hasn’t shown any damage. The cat hair doesn’t visibly accumulate and it vacuums really well. It is also supposed to be relatively resistant to spills/urine/etc. They also offer extended service plans, so anything that needs to be fixed should be covered within the service period

  I agree. My lazboy Morrison recliner 3 years later the cushioning is SHOT. The fabric is fine, great actually, but the chair cushioning is completely worn in. No support left in 3 years!! My old lazyboy was 15 years old and comfortable!!! The new ones are shit unless you buy the premium options!! The temperpedic foam is a must now, and you need to buy the top tier chairs, they are 3k dollars not on any sale! Not the cheap 6 hundred bucks you see in the papers. Thats how you get one that is comfortable for long and enjoy it instead of sit in bullshit

  What are the BIFL couch brands that can be found in stores?

  La-Z-Boy has show rooms and manufacturers both standard and reclining couches. After much comparison, 3 years ago we purchased two couches, one loveseat and two recliners, all in leather and very comfortable. My wife and I are large people (I'm 6'-4" 300 lbs) and we have two small dogs. My wife is disabled so the furniture is heavily used. All our pieces look and feel like new, we continue to receive many compliments on them, and I expect to get many more years of good use out of them. We have older family members who all have one or more pieces (mainly recliners) that are all over 30 years old and still in excellent shape, even if some of the fabric styles are now dated.

  This chair is about 20 years old and gets used every day

  I just found a pinnacle rocking recliner at habitat for humanity restore (a second hand, flea market almost, type store that I love) for 40$ in great condition. Jumped on it for my wife and 1.5 mo old. I couldn't figure out what it was and wanted to research and chatgpt, when I uploaded a pic, was like uh...dumb dumb... Do you not see the lazboy logo on the handle (I did not), and with a second photo it identified the rocking recliner. (Only reason I really cared was to find a slip cover so the surface is new as wife doesn't like used cloths which I understand completely). So excited. Glad to hear you like it for that, not that you can find many people that don't like la z boy because of it being uncomfortable, usually just proportions or business practices (honestly, never thought about it, but I don't think I've ever heard a bad thing about them, gottta see if they're shitty on the back end or used bad labour practices.)

  Have you thought about just investing in a Laz-E-Boy? They make the Clayton Gold Power Lift Recliner and its pretty [amazing.It](http://amazing.It) supports up to 500 lbs. You might have to change your desk to accommodate it but you'd be hella comfortable all day!

  BIFL guys, I feel like i'm chasing a ghost here.

  Hard to believe you would think La-Z-Boy as fast furniture. Their stuff is built very well and does last. My brother and his wife purchased a La-Z-Boy sleeper sofa about 20 or more years ago for their lake house and it is super comfortable. Looks great as a sofa and sleeps great as a bed. But it has a high price tag too. Ikea is fast furniture, and I've never heard of the others you mentioned.

  Lazy boy furniture-BIFL ?

  I have a lazy boy sectional that I bought about 16 years ago and it has held up to dogs and three kids. It’s is a soft fabric. I purchased two other lazy boy sofas maybe 8 years ago. (Another property that is rarely used) The fabric did not hold up and they look worse than my old couch that gets more use. I am looking for a quality, very large modern sectional for 5 of us to watch movies and hang out. I can’t seem to find quality brands anywhere online when I google. I think I paid $7,000 for this sectional. So, I think $10,000.00 would prob be my max for a sectional. Any ideas on quality of brands? You seem to have a lot of knowledge. (Nothing electronic or reclining)

  I finally bought a small laz-y-boy recliner that fits me. The first chair in my life that lets my feet touch the floor and doesn’t hurt my back. It’s absolutely life changing! I have been sitting with legs crossed my entire adult life (I’m 5’ 1”). Eventually that ruins your back, knees and hips, it turns out.

  BIFL Sectional recommendations

  Keep the dogs off of the couch. From what you've said here, I would get a seamstress to make a slipcover for it. May be $1k, but it'll keep it going in the playroom a lot longer. But... BIFL recommendations... With kids and dogs, I'd go for leather, and make damn well sure it is full-grain genuine leather. If it says Bonded leather anywhere on it, it is junk. The leather should be made of leather, no polyurethane, no latex or synthetic binders... Just full grain leather. That isn't to say that cloth won't last as long, just that in my experience, leather is hardier and easier to clean. But I also have a 70ish year old sofa that is on its 2nd reupholster job, with cloth, and its in great condition... just kinda stained. Hancock and Moore is probably the best until you get into custom bespoke stuff. My parents H&M Sofa is probably 40 years old and while it certainly doesn’t look brand new, it still looks nice and is comfortable to sit in. Stickley is probably just as good as H&M for cloth, and 1/2 step down for leather. Next, there is Bradington and Young, Classic Leather, Smith Brothers, American Leather... probably some others. They’re after the H&M or Stickley customer that just can’t stomach the price. Some corners are cut, workforce isn’t paid as much, plywood frame instead of solid maple. Still probably a BIFL product for 99% of consumers, still made in USA, company will stand behind it. Then you get into the Flexsteel, Bernhardt, Palliser. Now we're still USA, but a lot of corners are cut. If it is reclining, the Mechanisms are imported, workmanship is done for speed - not quality, frames are plywood and stapled instead of jointed, foam quality is a notch down. If leather, you start getting into vinyl or bonded leather secondary surfaces, large gaps in joints and the like. Stitching isn’t as tight, etc. Then there is La-Z-Boy. They’re not what I’d call junk, but not what I’d call good either. It’s the lowest I personally would consider, but furniture snobs would call them bottom of the barrel. I’d call them just above that. Bottom of the barrel will be Ashley, Natuzzi, some other department store brands. Faux leathers, thin flexing frames, light duty mechanisms, cheap cores, cardboard over the arm-cap. You can sit in it in the store and it will just feel cheap and not durable. Imagine an old person who has to basically fall into a chair to sit down, or a fat person, or a drunk person, or a kid jumping in. It won’t last. Then your outliers: the Chinese imports. Some of it is really good, like Hooker. Probably about as good as a Bradington Young (same ownership), maybe the finish isn’t quite the same, but the structure probably is - just made using $2/hour Chinese labor. Some is horrible (what you’ll find in Costco or Walmart, and I’m a Costco fanboi and I say that). IKEA is probably in the Chinese category-some is good, some isn’t.

It feels more like a luxury recliner than an office chair, which might be exactly what you’re after. It's especially great for taller or broader individuals who find typical office chairs too narrow or stiff.

  I ended up getting the thing for just over 9. I got it in a custom leather which drove the price up. By coincidence the lady I dealt with when I walked in was the regional manager and didn't give a shit about commission. I went and got the same quote from a different store later and at full price it would have been 11k+

  Whats the best home office chair?

  I had one of these. When m local corporate offices closed, and we all went to remote work, the company told us we could take our office furniture home with us to equip our home office. Nice chair - good for posture/support, but not comfort IMHO. But it has the same problem most other office chairs I have owned have — the armrests coverings wear. I finally replace mine with an IKEA chair which served me well. The IKEA chair’s gas shock wore out (and I no longer live near an IKEA store), so I replaced it with a La-Z-Boy office chair.

  It softens after the first month basically had an initial break in period but then it has stayed like that for the duration so far.. I'm very impressed I weigh over 300lbs and it has held up better than anything I've ever purchased. The leather requires little to no maintenance just make sure you buy one that is an F grade or above. You want to make sure you are getting an analine leather in a full leather wrap. Otherwise you'll have to worry about fading where the head touches the headrest. Also the electric mechanism is lifetime guaranteed with the wireless remote. I can't recommend this enough. Two saved presets mean I control my complex seat with just three buttons (two presets and then an automatic "home" button). Too bad you don't live in North Florida I'd hook you up with my guy. They have a small town store and make their money by being 15-20 % cheaper than the La-Z-Boy stores in the area.

  fwiw, I see Lazboy has aftermarket parts available. I believe all couches tend to deteriorate after ~5 years so I think Lazboy might be more repairable. There's certainly a load of Lazy boy repair YouTube video available if you're so inclined.

  If you have a Costco membership, they have a good deal on the Lazy Boy manager chair. It’s all leather, solid build, comfortable arm rests, and about $150. Stopped buying gaming chairs and after buying this one I ain’t going back.

  The Stanton 888 sounds like a great fit, but I’d check its frame and cushion quality for durability. La-Z-Boy’s Tall Man series and some Flex steel models are good for taller folks too. If you want power recline, Southern Motion and American Leather are worth a look. You might find more options at local stores.

  Nope - love it It’s held up well with a 90lb German shepherd using it for naps daily. About to have a new baby so we’ll see how it holds up - but yeah no problems whatsoever! Oh and we recently moved and discovered the back rests detach and the sofa can be detached into chairs so it was very easy to move!

  I need a really good high quality/premium office chair

  for anyone seeing this in the future, i bought a La-Z-Boy chair and loved it. It is sooo comfortable, but unfortunately they do not last. The lifetime and 10 year warranties don't cover much. Those warranties basically just cover the metal and wood. I've had my chair for under 2 years and the pleather is literally falling apart on the arm rests where i put my arms. The underlying fabric is showing and starting to rip, which is the only thing holding the filler inside now. The wood section at the base that holds the wheels is also pretty worn. I work from this chair but for half the time i owned it, i was working at an office - so i was not even using this chair. The whole reason i stumbled on this reddit thread is because i am searching for a replacement, similar style with similar comfort - just better workmanship. When i bought it the salesman mentioned the "lifetime" warranty. When i went back last year when i noticed excessive wear (the pleather starting to fall apart) i was told the chair has a 1 year warranty, but frame components have a longer warranty for manufacturer defects.   Mesh office chair vs. cushion chair? anyone tested them both?

  after my back surgery, regular chairs didnt cut it for me. I have never tried a herman miller (one day!!) but I do swear by my la-z-boy office chair, one around the $400 price point (the $200 price point ones are nice, but not as sturdy). It definitely not a buy it for life though, as we usually get new ones every 5-6 years.

  Heavy duty recliners available in US that actually are made to support up to/over 500lbs

  I have a lazy boy supposed to be for big guys, I am 6'3" and 250lbs, my lazy boy has been pretty good, I have had for 7 yrs now, slept in Twice for a couple of weeks each time from surgery. I looked at some new ones last fall and they wanted 3500.00 for a recliner. Forget it, I see rooms to go has one called the Shaq, it's a big guys chair and the price I saw was less than 1600.00. good luck
