  Shoes being BIFL comes down to construction (ability to be re-soled, repaired). For travel shoes that last a long time, (but not BIFL) I recommend Lems. They make many styles of shoes and shoes suitable for hiking, going around town, and traveling, and they are lightweight and easy to pack.

  I have been massively impressed with my Lems barefoot shoes. I have worn them for the past three years through fall/winter/spring, whenever I couldn't wear flipflops. I even hiked up Mount Pico in the Azores last year with them. People talk about ankle support and things of that nature, but I believe if you wear barefoot shoes, your ankles will be much stronger.

  Waterproof Everyday/Running Shoes Recommendation

  You're not going to find a one-size-fits-all here. Waterproof shoes are a waste of time, especially for running. If you want waterproof, buy boots. You're not running in boots though, so that becomes a bit of a problem. Actually now that you mention it, I am going to Mexico in a couple weeks and need to pick up a pair of 'do it all' shoes for that. I'll be getting another pair of Lems (Trail Blazers).

  Best Men’s shoes for back pain?

  Ah, I would start with uncomfortable shoes with less cushioning as you’ll naturally begin to take shorter strides, along with a wide toe box. My first pair were made by Xero. They were like a canvas material that stretched and were shipped folded, not in a box but they were relatively inexpensive at the time. The first 2-3 weeks it started with sore ankles and sore feet bottoms. My body started to adjust and get used to that while my back pain from standing basically went away. I have far less back pain from standing and walking than if I sit too long. I haven’t had any barefoot shoes BIFL. However, as time goes on. I’ve noticed less and less indication of heal striking from the soles. I currently wear a pair of Lems Chelsea for the wet weather but I wouldn’t call them BIFL.

  Alternative to Blundstone with wider toe box

  Try Lems or Jim green but for Jim green pay attention to the last. They use several lasts for their Chelsea boots. The JG has the widest toe box.

  My favorite travel pants, shoes & backpack after trying way too many

  Even if this is an ad I agree that Lems shoes are great! I have two pairs of their boots and will be buying sneakers in the spring. That backpack looks legit as well. Honestly this could be an ad that’s using the credibility of north face and lems to promote the pants. Because when I saw the shoes I was more trusting of this guys opinion. Fuck off bots

  Lems Shoes - specifically Primal Zen. Wide toe box, zero drop, wide widths available. I am on my feet for up to 16 hours a day and these shoes are the best. I have a 4 year old pair and only replaced them because I wanted a new color.

  Having trouble finding quality sneakers

  These aren't all cushiony but good for wide feet and proper toe spread! Topos or Altra (Altra is better looking but their foam wears out fast and they're zero drop so you may prefer Topro which has some puffy soled models), Superfeet inserts (go some place and be fitted), Lems primals, Redback boots with superfeet (way better than Blunnies now) or Birkenstocks (not cushiony but they do have some softsole models). You might find with a better fitting shoe you don't need as much cushion. Hope you find something good!

  I've always struggled with going through shoes and boots. Nothing is comfortable. What's the most comfortable shoes and boots that'll last?

  Came here to say this. I'm a carpenter for part of the year and an organic farmer for the growing season. I have worn many many different styles and types of boots, and most of them were meh 😕 my wife got a pair of lens and I got mine shortly after and lem(me) 😎 tell you, the boot/ industry has been lying to us all about what we think we need in a boot. Ive had them for about 3 months and I feel like I walk more confidenlty everywhere I go. I have ditched all my other shoes for zero drop, wide toe box. I will never wear another boot in my lifetime that isn't a Lem. Lems for life

  I have a wide toe box, normal ankle, high arch, and high instep, so I’m always on the hunt for something similar and often can’t just walk into a store and find something that fits. Arch supports placed strategically in heels help, as do straps on the ankle. Topo Athletic Sole Bliss Blundstones in a half size (they are wider but not longer) Duckfeet is on my list to try Clarks wides and low heels with ankle straps Anya’s Reviews helped me figure out brands with different foot shapes and what to look for, but I like a thicker insole than the barefoot movement she talks about. Thanks to her, I learned about Lems.

  Wide sneakers suggestions

  I second Altra and Topo. They have a true wide toe box, not just a wider footbed with squished toes. I also would recommend many minimalist style brands, but it sounds like you are looking for more cushion. Lems is a brand that might be a compromise — worth checking out, anyway.

  If you want something that can go beyond two years maybe get a pair of hard surface tennis shoes. But these days all my new shoes are wide toe and barefoot style. Anything else is pain. Check out lems,  splay, and Jim green boots. Jim green boots actually will surpass 2 years.

  Best shoes to buy???

  I would get some merino socks for starters. Smartwool, Darn Tough, Icebreaker, etc. Then I would get a pair of moc toe boots with a wedge sole. Danner Bull Run, White's Perry Select, Red Wing, Thorogood, etc. The Danners and Thorogoods feel great from the get-go, the others will take a week or two to break-in. I might consider adding a cushy insole if I felt so inclined. Then After a month or so, I would buy a 2nd pair...maybe something completely different - Lems or Xero, zero-drop maybe? I would rotate them. If they have to have safety-toes, I'd probably get another boot with a wedge sole. I work outside on a golf course year-round. I have a locker full of shoes/boots, with more in my car. Like you, I do a lot of miles on my feet. I have a lot of conditions to contend with, however, I am constantly changing my shoes. If my feet start to hurt or I don't have the right shoes on for what I need to do, I change them. I wear a pair to/from work, and might wear 3 different pair in a day. Again, being on my feet all day, I can't afford to have any issues with my feet/footwear. The only thing worse is just being cold and wet all day, lol.

  I am a devotee of my Lems barefoot Chelseas. I wore them all over Scotland and England last fall. Don’t know that they are BIFL or not, but they solved so many of my show problems. I have very wide hobbit feet with toes that spread wider than my foot, and these are some of the first shoes/boots I’ve ever found that actually let me wiggle my toes. Came home and got some Lem’s sneakers, too. I have lived in these all winter.

  Personally obsessed with my LEMS Chelsea boots. I wear them the majority of the time. I can walk alllll day long and my feet feel so wonderful. I like them so much my husband and I both ordered their hiking boots which are also amazing and double as our winter boots.

  I also have these and in a color that I'm not sure they stock anymore, but I've had these for at least 3-4 years and I adore them. Extremely comfortable and I can't wear anything else. Love my Lems but I would agree that I'm not sure this is the style OP is looking for.

  My Lems Boulder boots have lasted for 5+ years so far and don’t show any signs of wear. I wear them all fall and winter in rain/snow and all spring and summer for yard work. They are as comfy as the day I got them. The newer models have more grip on the soles which I would prefer but I can’t bring myself to replace my current pair that still work great. The Boulder boot is a little more “work wear” aesthetic and less fashion, but Lems recently released a Chelsea boot that looks a little more sleek.

  What brands do you trust to always deliver a high quality product?

  I have two pairs of Lems Kourt shoes, a black and a white, and they've been my everyday / work / errands shoes for over a year, no issues at all. They clean up easy, laces are in great shape, minimal creasing at the toe and I'm someone who normally causes cracks around the toes because I inadvertently rest my feet up on my toes. I also have a pair of their waterproof boots but I don't wear them very often - they seem to be good as well.

  My 2012 MacBook barely even hiccups. My 9 y/o Sony WH1000’s are mint. My Lems boots have well over 500 days. Maybe even 1000 My Icelantic skis were solid for around 500 days maybe.
