  I encourage you to hold the flatware to determine if it’s comfortable and well weighted for you. it makes all the difference to use comfortable silverware/flatware. 18/10 Oneida and Lenox are BIFL.

  Not Corelle Please! Chip-free dinnerware

  So strong that we had to downgrade because they were chipping our countertops.  Only one that ever broke was when we dropped a bowl onto another bowl.  Best dishware ever.  We keep the set around for have dinner gathering, etc.  They are the Lenox square Tin Can Alley.

  Looking for quality tableware, serverware, and cookware for my house.

  We have stainless Lenox flatware that has been very good quality for us. I recommend AllClad or something similar for cookware. I like the Eater series from Heritage Steel. We bought some thick white dishes from target and they have been solid

  What’s something you’ve bought once and never had to replace?

  All from Pampered Chef circa 2000 & still going strong. It's unreal. Wet/dry adjustable measuring cup Batter bowl w/ lid Pizza Stone Offset spatulas All 25 years old and going strong. I detest MLMs but this stuff is legit. Or or was anyway, never had to replace any of it so cannot vouch for present day quality. Also Lenox China, specifically the Butterfly Meadow Cloud pattern. Purchased around we 2001. Daily use. Incredibly durable, remains beautiful.

  Unpopular Opinion: “Researching Before Buying” as an Excuse for Overthinking

  This is why I thrift. My BIL (brother in law, I didn’t miss an F lol) does a lot of great research on big purchases like knives. Meanwhile I’m buying my decent knives literally one knife at a time; I posted about a CUTCO knife here one because I love it more than my “better” brand knives and this sub tore me a new one but it’s still my favorite knife. I also have a quality steel KitchenAid made in Germany with a hefty tine I’ll be resharpening for the next decade, and a Chicago Cutlery bread knife I might take to my grave. For each of these I have 2-3 knives I tried and didn’t “cut it” (literally), I just donate those. My cookware is Le Creuset or thrifted, I have only two exceptions (3-ply SS IKEA 360 pot) and off-brand Hexclad (Snowclad) frying pan. My dinnerware is Corelle or Lennox Fine China. My partyware, bowls are all vintage borosilicate glass: Anchor Hocking, PYREX, ARCOROC pink swirl. I don’t own any glassware of any kind that isn’t borosilicate. My tea set is moss rose (mixed porcelain makers, same pattern). I do not use paper plates or bowls ever, I own plenty of reusable vintage pieces. If I can attach an appliance to my KitchenAid stand mixer I will do that before buying yet another thing. I have a spiralizer, meat grinder, and pasta maker. All of my utensils are vintage (including Cutco! lol), excellent quality high temp silicone, or wooden. I use a wooden spoon or spatula every single day because hardwood has barely been improved upon. For clothing I require 50% minimum natural fibers such as cotton, wool, and linen. I don’t count rayon unless it is labeled organic. I read all the fabric labels and can thrift by feel, like I never mistake a polyester sweater for wool and can feel different cotton blends. Natural fibers last longer, and my wardrobe is like 75% thrifted. I also thrift BIFL boots and shoes, which generally don’t exist but better boots last a very long time and have exchangeable parts like boot liners and insulated soles so there is rarely a need to buy new. To each their own but I’m mostly here to learn about what things last so I can then thrift those things or find them on Marketplace.

  I bought a couple of sets of plain white bone china from Costco about 15 years ago. Most of the bowls got broken (heavy use/kids) but it was light weight, versatile and durable for the most part. I also have some inherited Lenox and I recently purchased some fiesta wear for every day use and like it quite a bit even though it’s less refined than the china.

  Dinnerware: Corelle or Luminarc?

  I have a few (3) Corelle bowls that I bought for my kids to eat cereal from - they are maybe 12 yrs old and the edges are very chipped and ragged. Our main dishes are Lenox bone china and I haven’t had this issue with them. I also have a single Oftast bowl from Ikea - have not had it as long as the Corelle bowls but probably at least 5 years? - .79 marked made in France on the bottom and online it’s described as being tempered opal glass. I recently picked up 3 more to replace the worn Corelle bowls, as they are the perfect size for a bowl of cereal. We do use a dishwasher but we don’t use heated dry and we use gentle non citrusy detergent and these bowls have always gone on the top rack. I would skip the Corelle.

  While my wife and I use Ikea Drogon, the small utensils are not great (spoons and forks). My parents have been using a set of Lenox flatware for 20+ years.

  The trick to flatware is getting high quality. 18/10 only goes so far. You can get 18/10 that bends if you look at it funny. Fine flatware quality is where you want to look. I’ve had Gorham Studio flatware for the past 8 years and they still look new, no bending. My brother has Oneida Moda for the past decade, had a box of it fall off the roof of their car after a picnic, got run over after falling on concrete, and only one of the knives has a VERY slight bend to it. It’s not cheap, but I don’t expect to have to buy a new set for the rest of my life. Look at Lenox, Mikasa, Ginko, Reed and Barton, etc. If they come as a five piece place setting, that’s a good clue they are higher end.

  Our treasured family heirloom - Arby’s 1985 Christmas Collection glassware. All 30 pieces still intact and used every holiday.

  We would go through the drive thru to buy one item at a time to get the glass. We did it over a couple of years to get enough of them to fill out a set that matched mom's Lenox Christmas china. My brother has it all now.
