Why is it so hard to find well-made clothes that aren't insanely priced?
Levi Jeans still make non stretchy jeans (wearing a pair now). I dislike the stretch too, the non stretch denim is so much thicker and stiff.

My belt got rubbed off after a short backpacking trip. What belt do you have that lasts?
I've had a leather Levi belt for over 15 years. It's my daily, and the only real signs of wear are some darkened spots on the leather and a bit of a bend/sag at the back where the loop hangs on it. no fraying, splitting, peeling, or crumbling to speak of.

What are the best jeans brands (and model)?
Levi 501s. They are button fly and last forever. I've been wearing the same pair for 12 years now.. Sadly they are finally falling apart.

What kind of jeans will last forever and have really good quality?
You can go a long ways to making your jeans last longer by infrequent washings and by letting them air dry. Obviously everybody’s situation is different, and some people will sweat a lot in their or get them dirty quickly, but my rule of thumb is that if they don’t smell and don’t look dirty there is no need to wash them. Small dirty spots here and than clean with a damp rag. Other than that, look for 100% cotton. No stretch. Levi premium is noticeably higher quality than standard Levi.

What is your most unintentional BIFL item?
Bought a Levi leather belt when I was 15. I’ve used it pretty much daily since. I’m 48. It’s the only belt I’ve ever owned.
