Looking for a printer
Lexmark 1000 Color Jetprinter bundled free with Gateway 2000 desktop. Last printer you'll ever need because no one has needed a printer since 1997.

Best budget printer for printing out legal binding documents in black and white.
My Lexmark E120 is about 20 years old now and works as good as on its first day. And I went through some toner cartridges.

Once Again, another generational peripheral, my IBM Model M Keyboard. A 32 Year Old Workhorse
Second this! I have a Unicomp 101 and IBM/Lexmark ones and my hands can't tell the difference. :)

The best printer for home use to buy? What do you recommend right now?
Color Laser. Read through the reviews and questions to make sure it will print B&W when one of the colors is low/out. HPs are terrible: bad drivers, little/no support, expiring inks, etc. Brother is a decent brand, I have found the exterior plastics to be brittle and the pickup rollers to be poor quality. If I actually needed a home printer, I'd splurge for one that copies as well. I like Lexmark, and I'm not sure if Samsung are still in the market (but they were solid).

The best printer for home use to buy? What do you recommend right now?
Brother, or generally any laser printer with a toner which is easy to refills. I got a used Lexmark laser color printer with a heat roller defect for cheap. It has a plastic cap which can be opened to refill toner. It also seems that toners have been refilled preciously. Magenta toner days it is empty but will still print no problem. I'd avoid hp and Epson. EcoTank ones are fine too but from my perspective, ink printers are not the way to go either if you're printing too much or too little.

Printer Tragedy - yes I've searched the sub - Hoping for specific advice
Lexmark, Ricoh and some older HPs are pretty solid.

Brother Printers - No Longer BIFL
Not everyone will agree with me on this, but I've always had Lexmark printers. My parents have a colour laserjet one that we've had for over 10 years iirc. My b&w laserjet hasn't let me down through 2 college programs and 4 moves. I think our colour printer needed a power supply recently and about 5 years into ownership needed a new drum but both were easy to source and replace.
