We have a top loading LG with a large capacity, with the option for extra water, called water plus, and that does a good job getting the clothes clean, I’m happy with it. I’m not sure any washer is buy it for life anymore, though. It can accept rugs and large comforters without difficulty.

A few years ago we switched to LG. We got the largest front loader and a gas dryer. We have lots of clothes, king sized bedding, and lots of pet hair, plus dog slobber. They’ve been great. My sister has used LG for over 10 years (which influenced our decision). Much better than our old Maytag set (which was good and lasted 18 years).

Go with whoever gives you a proper multi year warranty right up front... the longer the cover for the actual panel the better because that's the bit that usually dies first TVs fail the same way whoever sells them, panels burn out and backlights cook themselves and once an edge lit array gets cooked unevenly you're basically stuck because you're not fixing that in your living room Check they send someone to your house because dragging a huge telly back to a shop is a joke Make sure they do dead pixel swaps without the whole silly argument over how many are acceptable this can drag on forever Richersounds usually throws in long warranties and John Lewis does on plenty of models too so it’s really just whichever gives the better cover on the one you want LG C series OLEDs and Sony midrange LEDs are fine as long as they’re under that extended policy otherwise you’re just rolling the dice

Coworkers 1987 Maytag washer started leaking and he thought it was done for, one 2$ hose clamp later and it's good for another 40 years
Those old washers kinda suck. Yeah they are reliable. But they use a shit ton of water, their slow, noisy, and they never get enough of the water out. Gimme a less reliable new one that I need to replace every 10 years any day. My 9 year old LG front loader recently broke, threw a code, and 1 day later Amazon delivered me the new part that took an hour to replace.

Refrigerator recommendations?
My high-end GE lasted three years before it stopped cooling and needed a repair that matched the cost of the fridge. We're a small household and it didn't get used and abused. Now at five years it's bricked. The manufacturer has been zero help. The repair man said to expect to buy a new one about every five or six years or so because they all suck. Prior to the GE I had an LG for 10+ years. Yes, of course the compressor failed at one point but other than that it was a champ. I miss appliances that you could depend on.

Everyone says induction is better ... and it may be ... BUT if you or your spouse are clumsy and drops heavy pots on the cooktop you should reconsider. We had two induction stoves. My wife dropped heavy cast iron pots on both. I gave up and went back to gas - a nice LG unit. She still is crazy heavy handed with pots and pansand the range takes it like a champ.

The ones built in China are garbage that have the "Linear Compressor" law issues, but anything else specially built in Korea are really awesome and do last decades . On the other hand there were rumors that chinese factories have messed up the compressors on pourpose so their brands get market share and eventually to buy LG appliances for nothing as they did with GE Appliances . LG closed the factory in China and stopped importing their parts(compressors and main parts) eventually Bottom line - look into the fridge/freezer if it says built in Korea or Mexico, go for it without troubles, if it's built in China, RUN . Same with GE and Frigidaire /any other appliances- IF built in China you have 3-5 years of use .

yeah, LG are probably the most reliable brand of washing available in the UK, with the exception of asko, ebac and miele, but they are very expensive in comparison. it's strange that some people on this thread are giving advice to avoid them.

I followed some of their recs with wildly different outcomes (I forget model names so apologies): - Bosch dishwasher: 11/10 best appliance I own - LG French door fridge no ice maker: 8/10 going strong after several years - Dyson v12 slim: 5/10 (mediocre suction, micro dust bin, hard for wife to disassemble takes strength) - Samsung OLED tv: 4/10 (great image, infuriating OS, too finicky with settings. Switched to LG C2 and it’s plug and play beautiful image across any media type) - GE microwave: 0/10 it’s somehow worse than the 30 year old microwave I replaced. Cold food pockets unless you nuke it into a crisp. So are they better than a shot in the dark? Maybe?

Ever since I disabled the ice maker and water dispenser on my fridge it's worked perfectly. It's never frozen over or suffered from any issues. Only main issue I noticed was the first month I owned it I never plugged in the water supply and the ice maker was on so I'm assuming it was wasting a lot of energy trying to pump water and make ice (you should never use a water pump without water in it obviously). Once I turned that off all the weird sounds stopped and it just works. I love the fridge so far. I've seen so many people complain about the inverter failing because of the ice machine and without the ice machine it's one less moving part. Most fridges are simply a fan and a coil. If one or the other fails it needs to be fixed. The extras are just additional points of failure which as you mentioned, a power surge can take out.

LG xboom grab. Its compact, legit sounds way bigger than it looks, and handles both rain and quick dunks with no issue. The battery life lasts over 8 hours. Probably the best speaker for great sound and carry-anywhere convenience.

If you’ve only tried LG, you’re already off to a solid start. they last forever. Other than that you can also look at Samsung and Sony if you want something reliable with good picture quality. TCL and Hisense are pretty popular too (especially for Roku/Google TV built-in and decent value for money). If you’re just using it for streaming or as a secondary TV, even Toshiba and Insignia (Amazon’s house brand) are decent and won’t break the bank. I’d avoid super off-brands unless you just need something temporary. It's true. But on my LG, those features are making your own custom wash cycles. It's a cool option, I see why you can't do it directly from the dishwasher. And I don't care, so I've never set up the dishwasher to use my network. Its probably not any features you would find on non security nighmare and privacy invading.... Sorry, I mean "smart" appliances.

Are you from Canada? I guess this is something heavily influenced by country. I was shocked at the price tags on the site you linked....then I realized it wasn't the US site. Theoretically the US site should be cheaper because of the exchange rate....in actuality it is about 2.5x more before accounting for the exchange rate. I'm not usually one for add-on warranties since they rarely make sense, but I did the math and guesstimations and it make a lot of sense to get the Costco extended warranty for our LG washer and dryer. Higher capacity, more useful features (notably smartphone notifications), less energy usage, and much much cheaper than the typical "BIFL" recommendations. Take CR's high recommendations for LG paired with the warranty, and it seemed to make a lot of sense.

Personal experience, Bosch dish washer and lg washing machine (15 years+). Service personal said to keep the LG as long as I can. Most it needed to be done was changing some belt. (Subzero fridge and stove...almost 20 years with no issue)

After my Frigidaire (came with the house \[new\], lasted 7 years) washer went out a month ago, I went hunting for a new washer that didn't suck. Unfortunately literally nobody carries washers in stock anymore. You have to order them and they deliver them from their warehouse. OK fine, but I needed it yesterday. Went to a bunch of places that sell discounted returns and "floor models" and they were all junk and cost almost the same as new. Finally checked Costco's site and they had a deal where if you bought a washer and drier combo they had a massive discount AND they didn't charge for delivery or take away for the old units. Looked at all the reviews of the models that were on sale and got a LG washer and dryer set. The LGs have been awesome so far, and we made sure to get a washer without an agitator (as that is what had failed on the old washer) which gives us more capacity to wash.

Bought my LG about 6 years ago. After using it, my daughter bought one. Then a neighbor. They are a difference experience, but I’ll not go back. Imagine thinking it was normal to have a dishwasher set that required moving clean & wet to the drying unit. Since changing, the two unit w/d seems wildly illogical, to me. Time consuming? Yes. And one day it’ll be a normal routine and you won’t think twice about it. Clothes damp? Yep. Give them a shake, hang them up or set them for the couple minutes it takes to unload, then do your folding. Or have a drying rack to briefly hang things (or not so briefly). The energy efficiency can’t be beat. Some of us care a lot about that. Those who offer advice based on what they have read without actual experience caused me a lot of anxiety before taking the leap. Wish I had spent fewer life hours, and trusted that the technology used across Europe is good enough for here, too.

I got an LG after Consumer Reports tagged it as a top buy from Costco and have 0 complaints so far. That said, I read into how to actually keep these things running and it comes down to using a minimal amount of detergent, doing a cleaning cycle every 30 runs or so, and never using anything other than detergent (never use fabric softener) except maybe OxyClean. Also, do not overfill the machine, and this means a lot less than you expect as it's only about half the interior space. I believe if you do those things you can keep most washers for a long time, dryers are a lot less complex and seem to outlast the washer in most cases.

I have 2 sets. Samsung (2 dryers, 2 washers) all failed multiple times in 5 years. Replaced with LG heat pump units - no complaints. They work great, drums are a little small.

Anecdata: I have an LG I’ve had for ~10 years and I love it. I have the twinwash and I would cry having to go back to having one washing machine. I put the Miele stacking set in my tenant’s house because it was the only thing that fit and was ventless (no way to run a vent from where it was). It’s been fine as far as washing goes—I’m thinking you could fit at least a full if not a queen comforter in the washer, though I doubt anything that big would get dry in the dryer. However, it had a problem after like 3 years of use where the latch broke right off the door during washing because the door frame is plastic. I was able to replace the door myself, but it cost several hundred dollars and was a pain in the ass. I’m not sure how likely that is or if we just lucked out, lol

Speed Queen does make a front loader. At 3.5 cubic feet it certainly big enough for a queen size comforter. Additionally, Miele, despite its small size, washes quite a bit of clothes. I believe they're biggest washer holds 9 kg(just like the Speed Queen they are designed to be stuffed nearly full). That is surprisingly close to the maximum you can fit in a modern LG. Also, the LG washing machines with the turbo wash 360 are the highest rated machines. The general rule is never to buy an appliance from a company that makes TVs or cell phones. But, the one exception is LG laundry. They are at the top of their game for all the mass market brands. Miele and SQ are designed for 10,000 loads. Whereas, most modern washing machines are designed for roughly 2,500 loads during their lifetime. If you really want a BIFL washing machine make sure you look at the Miele Little Giant (30,000 loads).

I had one of these in an apartment 10 years ago (LG I _think_?), and I quite liked it. The cycle takes a long time, but it had a timer, so I could throw in a load in the morning and have the cycle just finishing when I got home. The clothes came out kinda like steam-damp, but the extra moisture evaporated very quickly. There weren’t any set-in wrinkles either, because I could smooth them out while that last bit of moisture evaporated. I definitely had to change my laundry habits from “big batch” to “continuous” though. However, I’ve heard (from someone who does big household appliance maintenance) that they’re kind of a maintenance nightmare, so I dunno if there are any that could approach BIFL status. Never had any issues in the 2 years I was in that apartment, but that doesn’t really say much.

65" TV Recommendations
Oleds look great but they can struggle with brightness depending on setup. Mini-leds or higher-end qleds usually hold up better in daylight and still give great contrast. Gaming-wise, just make sure it’s got hdmi 2.1 and low input lag, most mid to high-end sets do now. No need to overthink it beyond that. Request: Best all-in-one washer dryer combo -- one unit does both
The all in ones are not useful in the USA because for the money of a good one, you can get a great wash/dry pair and do twice as much laundry in half the time. If you live in Asia, get an LG. I have had great results with those when it is not practical to own a dryer.

For anyone considering an LG OLED, just go for it. I’ve had my C3 for about 2 years now with heavy use (8+ hours a day), and there are no visible signs of burn in at all. I also use it as a monitor so there are a lot of static elements like menu bars, excel sheets, etc. Not to mention how beautiful the screen looks.

A lot of technology is this way. LG OLEDs had screen burn-in issues and are now pretty resilient, while costing less. Raspberry Pi. Has barely gone up in price, but the current model can act as a personal computer. Unfortunately, technology in general still isn't BIFL unless you get a nice desktop computer and ship-of-theseus it into eternity, but it is getting better and better at a crazy rate.

I know there is no such thing as a BIFL appliance, but what are your thoughts on this washer? Please no speed queen recommendations, they are too expensive and don't hold enough.
We just recently went with this and so far so good. I was able to negotiate a good price with a local appliance store, but buying directly from LG was a great place as well. They include free installation and some cash if you have any old appliances to trade in. There’s also some instant rebates available and a free second year of warranty. Both of these are available regardless of the retailer. I need a new washing machine
We had issues too. What I read was to stop all fabric softener, dryer sheets, and those little dot smelly things (IDK what you call them). It's all just wax and although you couldn't see it - it would clog up the fine filters. We stopped using all those products and I started to manually hand wash the lint filters every Sunday with soap and water. It instantly cut the drying time by 2/3 and we never had an issue again. My wife was upset about losing the softener, but after a month she admitted she couldn't tell a difference. At least that's my experience with the LG. I'm still intrigued that I could possibly have 4 combo units someday. We don't generate that much laundry, but it would be handy to do two weeks of laundry in one afternoon.

My lg front loader needed some tlc by the 10 year mark. Is not been bad to service and looks like it was largely designed with that in mind. No sharp edges where you need to root around a bit to reach things. $80 in parts and I’m about two years past that. Biggest problem with it from age is the number of buttons and the fact the screen printing is wearing off.

I hear ya. I have two sets of them. We had Samsung units and they were constantly breaking. I got LG washers and heat pump dryers as replacements and have been happy with them. They don't vent out, so you don't push 9K sqft of conditioned air out of your house with every load. They save a ton of electricity, and the room they are in is now comfortable, vs. an icebox. The newest thing is the all-in-one heat pump units. You dump an entire bottle of detergent into them, and they dose it for you. When it is finished washing, it will automatically start drying. They also take up half the space, so if you wanted to, you could get another unit down the road and effectively have two full sets. You also get redundancy if one breaks. I like the idea of an all-in-one, but the LG units work very well, and I have no intention of replacing them after four years. The downside of the LG is the Euro-sized drums. Even a Speed Queen is not a buy it for life purchase. They do require maintenance. Both my mom and my sister have Speed Queens (front load and top load). I've had to work on each one in the first seven or eight years--bad water inlet valve, bad control board. One of the dryers had a temperature sensor go out and one of the washers has had a bad door latch sensor as well in the years since. When you consider the price $1,300 / $2,500 versus an LG front load washer at $699 The LG becomes a serious contender. Consumer reports and Wirecutter / New York times both rate the LG washer above the speed queen for performance, stain removal, and gentleness on clothes. This means you can buy two or three for the single price of a Speed Queen. It might not be a buy it for life appliance, but you're likely to get a better wash performance and have a lower overall cost during the 20-year period--especially, if you have to pay for maintenance and aren't able to do the fixes on the Speed Queen yourself.

what becomes incompatible? I just gave my housemate a Sony from \~2010 and other than the guide being deprecated (that really pisses me off, Sony, that was not cool tying the OTA TV guide to an Internet app) it still works great. Only reason I did was because a friend gave me a LG OLED that I mentioned elsewhere in this thread. We don't use the TV to stream though only as a display - to stream we use Roku or Fire Stick and just replace those when they get too slow or laggy.

Mine has a blue tint to the screen even when off around the outer edge. There’s also a slew of dead pixels, like hundreds, near the top of the screen. There’s also a halo effect where a quarter inch or so around the edge of the screen is brighter than the rest. I don’t notice it day to day though and I still love it. 2019 LG C9 65”

But I’ve had an LG Oled since 2020 and a Sony since 2023 that have both taken several direct impacts from toys and keep on going. I was just given a 55" LG B9 (2019 model) by a coworker and it is great. No issues noticed. I have no idea how many hours are on the display however. (if anyone knows if there's a service menu where I can find this info, let me know and I'll check.) It was his parents' unit; apparently they had a lightning strike and the TV didn't power up for them so they bought a new one. I took it home, bought a stand for it (it was missing, apparently they wall mounted it) and it fired right up. Initially there was some oddness in the bottom right hand corner of the display but it cleared right up, I assume that came from moving and transporting it. Yes, I did wait a couple weeks to make sure there were no issues and then was honest about it, I told him "hey, that TV's been working great ever since I first tried it, you sure you don't want it back?" and he was cool so hey, free upgrade (I had a \~15 year old Sony that it replaced) The only problem I've had with it is that the 3.5mm TRRS dongle that allows you to use the analog input was also missing and I can't get a part number or pinout from LG. I was able to find a service manual but no schematic. The problem I have is that I have two different ones with different pinouts and with both the audio seems off, if I land only one channel I get sound out of both speakers. I suspect one is correct but there's some weird audio processing going on inside the unit (I don't use the TV speakers anyway, I have an AVR) but I don't want to hook things up incorrectly and then use it long term and damage something. (my old TV, of course, just had two - not one, but two - sets of proper RCA inputs so I didn't have that problem with it. Ah, progress. Yes, I still have a VHS deck and also a Laserdisc player, as I'm a gear nerd and collect obsolete formats.)

I was able to find some youtube videos about such an issue and was able to make some meaningful improvement. Screen wise looks great still and no issues yet

Do not buy 77” s90D, there is a known power supply issue that Samsung is unwilling to recall. If you do purchase, make sure you get extended warranty and be prepared to have to argue for replacement and be without tv for weeks. I returned mine after the first failure. LG is the way to go for longevity.

I have a 2018 LG B8 55-inch as my main display, and 7 years later it's holding up great. No sign of burn in, no dead pixels. It gets heavy use for TV, Movies, Laptop Monitor, Gaming, etc. The automatic pixel refresher, screen shift, and logo luminance adjustment has gone a long way to avoid burn-in.

My only complaint about it is that it's not quite bright enough if the room is well lit in the daytime, but I am not often using it while the Sun is up, that has never really bothered me. Had some light burn in issues once but the tv did its self repairing thing and it was like new after that (and still is) Was going for LG back then because they‘ve been the only company manufacturing these panels. I play games for hours at a time that have aspects of the UI that don’t move or change, I watch YouTube video not full screen… So far I have no burn in anywhere. Once I start to notice burn in I’ll replace it with whatever C model is new or maybe a QD OLED if I can find a 48”

OLED are MUCH better these days. I sell them and haven't heard of any issues of burn in for about 6 years. We also run our displays 10-12 hours a day and I haven't seen any colour shifting or burning lately either. Newer panels are much brighter as well. Don't be afraid of OLED, many of the issues have been worked out. IMO stick with LG or Samsung though. Many brands use LG panels but pair them with subpar processors. I like to think of it as throwing $60 tires on a $100k car. You're only as good as your worst component

2016 LG OLED as well. The 65 inch B series. Some ghosting that usually goes away doing the screen refresh periodically but no pixel issues or permanent burn in. Color has been great. My only issue has been its wireless card dropping the connection about once a week. We don't use a lot of the smart features but it's annoying when it happens. Other than that it's been a great TV and handled 2 cross country moves. I still have one of the best TVs in our friend group and host a lot of watch parties because of it

I have an LG C9 I bought in January of 2020, and I'd say it sees pretty heavy use. I still love it, but I've definitely started keeping an eye out for a new TV. Last year I bought a second TV that I wound up returning (Samsung S85D), but I noticed how much brighter it was than my C9. Mainly looking at either another LG, or a Sony OLED this time around. We'll have to see, but I'd be hard pressed to go back to an LED TV. I love the inky blacks, and I've just not really seen a lot of non-OLED TVs that look great to me.

Most bang for your buck fridge?
LG has allegedly fixed some of its compressor problems. The problematic compressors are called linear or scroll compressors. You want a reciprocating/rotary compressor. Look for a basic top freezer refrigerator. Then read the reviews. My hometown is offering low income folks a free new refrigerator, an LG "garage" model with a reciprocating inverter compressor. The inverter makes them more efficient, but adds a digital control board which might be a source of failure. If you have the room getting both a separate refrigerator and a freezer is a good option. Those types of units are typically very basic and have low rates of failure.

Most bang for your buck fridge?
I got 15 years out of my LG and left it for the new owners who sold our house 3 years later with the LG still in the kitchen. Currently have the Samsung Bespoke, only 18 months in but love it for the two of us. The beverage center and multi use drawer are my favourite features and the counter depth doesn’t stick out nearly as much as the full depth in the model home.

LG WashTower or LG stackable recommendation?
I just bought an LG set a few weeks ago and decided to get separate units (but stacked with the kit) in case either the washer or dryer failed. I feel like it will be hard to source one part of of a WashTower if one part fails, but with a separate W/D you can replace either if one dies.

I've had a WashTower for 4 years and it's been great. We chose it over stackable because having the controls for both machines in the middle is a lot easier to reach than whatever is on the top. Just keep the washer door open, wipe away any excess moisture after each load. Periodically clean out the detergent trays, the rubber gaskets and drain the little tube at the bottom (I do it into a paint tray, since it's basically on the floor).

LG refrigerators, are they any good?
I still read every response lol. They did get the LG with the freezer on bottom and fridge ontop. 2 years in and it’s going amazingly well, I like the feature where it’ll ring nonstop until someone closes the door. A week into owning it it would make this crazy loud buzzing sound it sounded like a transformer, turns out the ice maker was switched on but it wasn’t connected to a water line so the pump was constantly running. We switched it off and ever since then it’s been running very smoothly. No issues with temp/overheating or the inverter.

Parents need all new kitchen appliances
I just go with whatever Costco has, since their return policy is amazing if anything does go wrong. When we were looking a few years ago, I think we avoided Samsung everything. Got Panasonic microwave, Bosch dishwasher, LG stove, and LG fridge. Microwave actually did stop working and we got a full refund, but all the review says Panasonic is still heads above other brands.

The LG looks pretty good - 5 year warranty and 10 year motor warranty as standard. Direct Drive motor as well, so less vibration and should be less noisy. On their site, it looks like it's £445 (delivered) if you can do your own uninstall and reinstall. The low depth profile is also handy if you're installing under tight units (very important to check, also account for any pipework behind it).

I have basic SS LG fridge w/ top freezer and I would give it 4 out of 5 stars. Only big drawback is ice maker in freezer went on perma strike after 15 months with no hope of being fixed. Really sucks but still give it 4 stars. I see lot of cheers for whirlpool here so if when the LG dies may have to check out that brand if I can afford it by then lol

I’m going to echo everybody’s sentiments that you should hold on to it for an emergency. I’m not a hoarder by any means, but condensers m find a way of going out at the most inopportune moment. Probably because they’re most likely to lock up or fry when they have to work hardest. If you already promised it to a friend in need then that is decent of you and at least it won’t end up in a landfill yet. But it’s really not a bad thing to have “just in case.” Even if it’s not powerful enough to cool a whole room like you claim, in a case where you have NO functioning a/c, and let’s say it’s a heatwave and the HVAC guy can’t come for a few days, you’ll appreciate anything it can do.

I've got a heat pump LG model. How it dries matters massively on how much you jam in it. Fill it with towels and it'll take 5+hrs. It also has a very bad filter design. It's got a coarse and fine filter. However the air goes through the fine filter first???? So this filter as fine as a stocking clogs up and then it will take forever drying until you clean it out. Very annoying. But I mean if you just put a normal amount of normal clothes in it's pretty good. All of these stay much cooler than heated driers so you can put basically anything in them. So the technology itself is much better, and more efficient

[UK] Washing machine - not going MIELE so Bosch or who else?
I'm in the UK and do casual appliance repairs. I have an LG, they still use split drums and parts availability is generally really good. Our last one died (at 10 years) because the spider broke and sadly my wife didn't mention the unusual sound until it was too late - it had a pretty hard life with us, 18 months of almost daily nappy washes etc. The only thing I can really complain about with LG is the continued use of spring washers for the counterweights - easy to fix when they loosen, but daft in this day and age to be using such an unsuitable fixing. Generally I recommend Bosch/Siemens and Electrolux/AEG/Zanussi (appreciate your experience has been negative) as they have become really good with spares recently. I've done control board replacements for reasonable money with factory replacement parts in the past few years - no special account or messing around needed

Agree with this assessment. We have them in my condo (shared laundry) where I live part time. Very hard on the clothes and my kids clothes just do not get clean. At my other place we have a front load LG and it’s fantastic. We’ve had it for about 8 years now, knock wood no issues. Even at our vacation home we put a cheap no name washer/dryer bc renters are hard on everything, and it still washes better than the SQ.

Had an issue within a year and had a repair guy out, it was an easy fix but a totally stupid design flaw by the manufacturer… Anyways, this appliance repair guy of 20+ years said, these units are now disposable, plan on ~10 years of use. Then you have to get new ones. So buy ones that you feel comfortable replacing in that lifespan. This does not apply to Miele (too small for us). So that kind of changed my perspective and now I’ll just buy $1000 ones (each) going forward…

Well I have had amazing experiences with LG, but will say absolutely DO NOT BUY SAMSUNG. Every TV I or a family member has ever had from them has had serious performance issues. Menus never want to open, sometimes being so slow they will be “closed” by their built in timer before they even open. The image quality is far inferior to pretty much every other brand at the same price point even though they are first party for panels which is mind boggling. The actual software offered in the first place sucks and is full of ads and bloatware seeping from every seam. Just miserable pieces of tech that are to be avoided at all costs IMO. Like another commenter said, find whatever LG or TCL fits at the top of your budget with your requirements and go with that and it’ll last a long time. One last anecdotal bit about my Samsung TV, the god damn legs broke off the first time I set it down, they’re each held in with like a 1/2” long 1/16” thick little bit of plastic, and I found both of those bits in my carpet just after, so the legs have been glued on since the day I bought it.

I replaced my washer & dryer with LG. I'll be surprised to get 7-8 years out of them. My old Kenmore refrigerator is still hanging on.

TVs are not BIFL…. Some can last very long, but hopefully you’ll live on long enough to see even the longest lasting TVs die :) In general, Sony is on top in terms of both quality and reliability. They have been for a long time as well. In the past, other brands such as Toshiba, Panasonic were also seen similarly, but they lost their way later (Panasonic has started to make their return to the US so let’s see how that goes). Of course, besides periods of good sales, Sony TVs also top the price lists. Depending on your budget, X90L, Bravia 7, Bravia 8, Bravia 9, A95L are all great. Avoid Bravia 5 and Bravia 3. I would avoid LG TVs that aren’t OLED. They’re top of the mountain for OLEDs (extremely comparable to Sony but quite a bit cheaper). Models like C4, G4 and later are great, but avoid their QNED, LED, etc ones. TCL makes great mini LEDs at a great price as well. QM7 and QM8 are great bang for your buck. That said, though, it’s important to know that you’re much better off buying TVs with a good warranty (especially for OLEDs, you want warranty that covers burnin. Costco’s Allstate one doesn’t). Regardless of brand, there’s a bit of a luck factor with panel lottery. You can end up with a shitty panel even from the best manufacturers. I recommend RTings . com for TV reviews. No reviewer is perfect, but they don’t post sponsored/biased stuff.

We liked it so much that when we moved, we immediately replaced the shitty clothing eating horror that was here with another combo unit, but upgraded to the heat pump instead if the condenser. When we bought our old one, the heat pump ones weren't available in Canada yet. That one is still going strong. only thing we ever had to fix on it was the door gasket....er don't dig in the drainage holes with a screwdriver to get lint out... That's kinda on us. The new model has a lint trap, which is a lot better than having to wipe the door out.

Microwaves recommendations?
I've had this little friend LG MS1536GIS microwave oven for about 8 months. First of all, what all the other microwaves don't do, but this one does - it heats food, not dishes! That's the main criterion. It heats food fast and evenly, and I love the defrost and reheat functions, they actually work without overcooking. Also the design fits i think in every kitchen, the door opens smoothly, and the controls are super easy to use, even for my parents. It’s quiet, spacious, and looks great.

Honestly take your pick, they all kinda suck. They’re exposed to high temps and humidity all the time. They’re bound to fail. Samsung is probably the worst offender so LG or Bosch would be a good next step. If you don’t already, try to vent it to the outside and turn the fans on whenever you’re cooking to keep the heat and moisture away from the microwave electronics.

We’ve had our large capacity LG front-load washer for 10 years and never had an issue. We live in a dry climate and leave the door open - we’ve never had an issue with smell that people complain about. I know LG isn’t popular on BIFL but this is my experience. Before that we had a Kenmore top loader that lasted for 16 years

Don't buy Samsung. They are too difficult to get parts for. Until recently they only guaranteed parts for 6 years, they just up that to 10. LG gets the highest rating of all the brands for washer and dryer from repair people, outside of speed Queen. However, avoid Samsung and LG kitchen appliances like the plague--they have compressor issues.

Typically, people choose to replace the dryer just so it matches the washing machine. But at the end of the day, a dryer is a dryer is a dryer. They haven't gone through as intense a change mechanically over the years as washing machines and they will typically outlast a washer by at least twice the time if not longer. You can always maintenance a dryer somewhat regularly, where you can't really do that with a washer so you can really keep it alive for a long time. These days, top load washing machines last about 8-10 years, and front loads last about 6-8 years. There's always some plus/minus variance in there of course. What makes a "good" washer is going to depend on what you want. One condensed way of looking at it is that if you want a front load, look for something that's direct drive rather than belt driven. With that said, I'm a Speed Queen girlie all the way. I don't have a lot of familiarity with front loads, I was just getting out of the repair game about when those came out, but I love a Speed Queen top load and have been using one for the last 10 years. They're about as close to getting a Maytag 30 years ago (and would still be working today). Speed Queen also has one of the better warranties, especially on parts. I personally prefer my appliances without computers (so dial timers) when I can because computers are expensive to replace and can so easily be the cause of many, many issues. Now that's me. Usually when people ask me this question, they follow up by sending me a picture of a red frontload because it's pretty and asking me what I think of it. If you want to get a front load, I'd go with a direct drive Maytag or even an LG. LG parts are pretty reasonable if/when you do need repairs and while finding a servicer can be difficult depending on where you live, the actual LG support will set all that up and often end up covering things beyond warranty. Don't get a Samsung. Samsung is good at electronics. They know how to make a TV and they know how to make a phone. They do not know how to make appliances. And have problems. Their parts NLA all the time (no longer available) and the parts are not cheap when they are available. Their customer service will fight for you, but finding authorized servicers is a nightmare because most repair people don't want to deal with them, or their known issues.

Washer and dryer combo? (Do I need to know sizes too?)
1. We have a search engine, you did not use it. Try harder. 2. Buying a dryer is NOT the thing to do. Missmatched units are a thing. Dryers get hot and spin, there's not much bling to them. 3. If you have king size bedding, you are out of BIFL luck as the BIFL washers will not do king size bedding* 4. If you have king size bedding, you will want any washing machine that is 5+ cubic feet in size....we got an LG honking top loader. Is it BIFL? Prolly not but there's no hivemind BIFL large capacity washing machine. * Sally from Lawrence, KS will be here soon calling me a buttshark as her Speed Queen handles her king size bedding just fine. What she won't tell you is that her king size comforter is made from fabric is made from 8-denier silk microfibers, which are one-sixth the thickness of a human hair. So when you go with Sally's advice and your thick ass comforter doesn't work with your Speed Queen, you can say Thanks Obama.

I haven't needed to do any repairs to my lg washer I bought 15 years ago because I just hang dry my clothes like everyone else in the world. Sure wish I kept that Kenmore air conditioner I bought 20 years ago though. They were superior at removing moisture. RIP Sears.

Hi, what's are some high end tv's in terms of quality performance and other specs.
The Samsung QD OLEDs have the best color volume and peak brightness is over 2,000 nits. The LG G5 though is easily the best performing TV. It hits over 2,500 nits and provides literally everything else you want. For 99.9% of people, permanent burn-in will never occur because of normal use.

Bought our LG 55” LCD back in 2017/18 sometime for about £700. Still going strong. Don’t feel the need to replace it yet. My parents had the same CRT TV from before I was born until I became a teen from what I recall. I don’t think it was broken either, it was just time. I still remember the crackling static on the glass when you turned it off.

I bought a 65" LG to replace my 2004 52" Sony a couple of years ago. It was a nice upgrade, but the Sony still works just fine for gaming on the PS5 in the son's bedroom.

Yeah, I had a Samsung 55" 1080p LCD TV from 2012, but I waited to upgrade for multiple improvements in 2017, to an LG 65" 4K OLED TV, which was an upgrade in size, resolution and panel technology. It was crazy how good of an upgrade it was. It has sadly suffered from a lot of burn-in but I still have it now in 2025. I'm keen to upgrade to something bigger, like 77"+, when I can afford it but it still has to be 4K OLED.

Those "dumb" TVs are irreplaceable. You're not at the mercy of software updates and the TV never "slows down". Got some budget LGs at home that my parent bought around 2010 that are still going strong!

1993 Sears Kenmore Microwave made in Singapore, in use for 32 years
I took my similar 1997 unit apart after it was contaminated by a toaster fire beneath. It was made by LG and still in flawless condition upon teardown, beside dust in the exhaust fan. Only point of failure I could identify would be the easily replaceable capacitors on the control panel PCB. Likely the VFD clock display would fade before they would. Clean like this should keep going for a long time. Only item of other concern would be the door interlock switches as all primary power is passed through them while under cooking operation, but again these are easily replaceable off the shelf parts that can be acquired for a few dollars.

You should head to the 4ktv or home theater sub. Closest bifl with mostly watching at night will be a mid range (a80, c4) sony or lg OLED. I personally love the sony interface and have never felt the need or want for a roku stick. LG interface is not as good in my opinion.

If you don’t ever want to have to consider upgrading it then you want an OLED. LG B4 is a great deal in the states. Yes the UI sucks. Many people pair an Apple TV with their LG OLEDs so they don’t have to deal with it. I had a TCL before my LG. It was fine, no complaints and was affordable. Roku interface is nice and simple. Brands you swear by that have Buy It For Life quality products
Great list. My Visio outlasted my top-of-the-line Samsung. Now, the Samsung still went 13 years before the capacitors started to die, so it was well worth it. I doubt Visio's are made like they used to be, but at 17 years, my 42" is still going strong. Replaced the Samsung with an LG OLED. We'll see how that goes.

Anyone have any experience with LG Induction ranges?
My install was great, but I think that really depends on your area and crew. I read positive and negative delivery reviews for any of the big box stores. The $200 gift card is tempting! The benefit to me of Costco is they don’t charge you for required install parts or haul away, but there aren’t any install parts for an induction stove so it’s not a benefit. It saved me like $150 on the dishwasher install they did as well over what Best Buy/Lowe’s etc would have charged for extra parts, so it was a no brainer. Is the warranty the same with Best Buy? Costco gives an extra year. But at the time I bought my appliances LG was offering a free extra year as well, so should I have issues I probably would go through them.

I love it! I’m so happy I went with induction. It delivers on the things I like about gas in responsive temperature control, but without the fumes, doesn’t heat up the kitchen, boils water super fast., and is super easy to clean. I’ve never had to scrub the stovetop like with my old radiant electric stove because nothing burns on it. I’ve had zero issues with the range that required warranty service in the 15 months I’ve had it. Still looks brand new thanks to how easy it is to clean. I read reports the blue interior on the oven chips, but I haven’t had issues. I know you’re not supposed to use oven cleaner on it which worried me, but I’ve found it ok bc the material is fairly non stick and is pretty easy to wipe clean without using the heavy duty chemicals.

WT7400CV https://www.lg.com/us/washers-dryers/lg-wt7400cv-top-load-washer Love it! Though we always set it to Heavy Duty with Water Plus. I'm not a fan of the cleaning performance on the normal modes which aim to use as little water as possible. It's fine for body oils and such but I tinker in my workshop and always get rust/oil/general grime on my clothes. Heavy duty + "water plus" works great!

Yes surprisingly very spacious. There’s are elements that make me think it’s a ‘no frills’ model such as the door storage which is very spacious but they’re all the same size and 3 on each door, as opposed to an XL holder, one for butter/condiments. I went and saw one in person first which confirmed it’s the right choice. Still love it and no issues about 9mos later

Need suggestions for quality washing machine that will last and support a high laundry volume family with small kids
We have 5 active people in our house, and have had as many as 8 (myself and my wife, plus our 3 kids - plus 2 elder relatives who lived with us for caregiving). We have had great luck with LG. All other brands seem to die fast with the amount of usage we put them through. We tend to run big loads - and at least 2 loads per day, and since we have a farm - and kids - we have heavy-soil cleaning on many loads too. Our current ones are a LG WM3600HVA Washer and LG DLE3600V Dryer - we got them on sale for $500 each at Lowes, and they are great.

I've heard good things about older Whirlpool Duet machines, LG makes good laundry equipment, people seem positive about Electrolux but they aren't as widespread so there's some uncertainty there, Miele is great but parts are expensive (also make sure there's someone near you who can service them)

French door (and side by side) is where most of the problems are (with ice dispensers on the front). If you are not particular about the style, you could get a two door (top or bottom freezer) with no dispensers on the door simple fridge. GE/Frigidaire/Whirlpool could work. Pick whichever model provides you the most functions. If you are looking for premium, Miele could fit that price range (Bosch if you are looking for Counter depth). Consumer reports lists LG, Miele, GE for bottom freezer; Wirecutter does almost similar.

Speed Queen R7s. Hopefully the last duo we have to buy for a very long time.
Not a scam, but just one of the things reddit has latched onto and repeated. The biggest issue is that they just don't clean well and are hard on clothes vs alternatives . Perhaps they'll, on *average*, last longer or have fewer issues, but your odds [as a single consumer] of having issues vs a ge/lg/Maytag/whirlpool is essentially the same. Hey- I've got LGs close to 20 years without a single issue. Is that anecdotal information useful? Not really, but when it's about speed queen on reddit, it's proof that they're the best.

Thinking to buy Speed Queen Washer & Dryer? Think twice...
We bought an LG high-end pair about 5000.00 for both. They were fantastic. Not just for how long they lasted (they are 13 now and going strong), but how well they cleaned, spun the clothes, and dryed them. The dry cycle was like 20 minutes most of the time because they were so well spun in the washer. They have more features than we could reasonably use. We did use the mister in the dryer often and the sanitize function. They were expensive, but worth it.

You can absolutely get a quality used washer that could last several more decades, don’t listen to the haters. I knew a woman in my neighborhood in the early 2000s with a washer and drier she’d gotten for her wedding in the 60s. From what I’ve read a speed queen is built with very simple electromechanical parts much like the one this woman had. LG certainly makes a reliable unit for the period I’ve owned one, which is 5 years. If there’s someone in your area who can fix them, I’d go for either brand, used.

Panasonic 42” Plasma from 2008 finally retired
I had the same one. Died about 5 years ago. Tried to repair it by myself using YouTube but couldn’t. I had moved to a bigger house and bought a LG 65” OLED. The LG looks much better because it is 1080/4k resolution vs Panasonic 720. Also the Panasonic used ~450 watts vs LG ~150.

Panasonic 42” Plasma from 2008 finally retired
It's a bit more complicated than that. I have one of the most expensive plasma monitors that was ever made. It is a color grading reference monitor that was about $15,000 when it was new. It has some tech limitations due to its age but I do mean what I said. It's also not technically a TV since it doesn't have a cable tuner, but I consider/use it as a TV in any case. I use HDMI for some inputs but also I have BNC components like the scaler that give me a lot of control in my setup. Modern mid to high tier OLEDs are competitive with the quality of the picture in many ways, including by supporting higher resolutions (my monitor supports 2.1k, not 4/8k), and native HDR, but not in others. It's hard to describe, but you can feel the colors from this thing in a way that is unique. It gives off a warm tone and feels cinematic. I've tried to tune OLEDs to match it with the same profiles and brightness etc and just haven't quite got the same effect I want. I'm happy to stick with the plasma for as long as it works, which I think will be quite a long time. It's a serious piece of hardware. It's also got some features by not being a 'smart tv' I enjoy, such as a fast boot cycle, easy changing of inputs, and no ads or tracking technologies embedded in the firmware. Obviously, if I was starting out today, I would go buy a higher-tier OLED from Sony or LG, but there is no value in replacing it. I'd have to get a top of the line OLED to roughly match the picture quality of what I already have and there's really no major benefit to me. I don't mind 2k resolution. I don't have HDR native support but I can largely emulate it if I wanted/the monitor is capable of displaying the range with the right signal input. There's just no real benefit to upgrading for me. I also like cheaper old plasma TVs ofc but those are clearly inferior to a good OLED now. The plasma era has been over for a decade but it definitely took a while for other technologies to get there.

Quiet washer dryer BIFL?
I recently went to someone's house with an LG Washtower and it was super quiet, I was surprised to see it running because I couldn't hear it from where I was standing. LG generally has a good reputation for laundry machines and from the teardown videos I've seen of the washtower models, they are pretty repairable. They use standard laundry machine parts and everything is easy to get to behind the front panel

Ok I do love my 17 inch LG gram that I have had for 5 years. Absolutely love it. I have had so many laptops before in the past. It is just so unbelievably light and versatile. If you want something smaller (but oddly enough heavier - the Dell XPS is very solid (a bit exxy though).

You really have to consider quite a bit before you should buy a speed Queen. We just moved and needed to purchase a new washer and dryer. I am pretty neurotic about cost benefit analysis before buying something that is primarily a utility item. For our household, it didn’t seem to be the correct choice. For the break even point, the SQ would have to last 17 years longer than the LG front loader that we ended up purchasing (which I only calculated at lasting 6 years). If utilities spike, it only gets worse for the SQ. This also doesn’t consider if I put the extra money I saved into my investment portfolio (if that received just a 4% yield, then it never broke even for the SQ). It also doesn't consider that none of the SQ dealers in my area offered free shipping and setup; we didn't have an old machine to remove, but they charged extra for that too. The LG I ordered was free delivery, and if we had an old machine, free removal. That was going to be an extra $320. Additionally, you have to think about how long you are planning to be in a place, and if the SQ will be moving with you if you move. We have averaged about 5.5 years in a home before we moved (generally for work), and every time we moved the home buyer purchased our washer and dryer with the house (or wanted it as part of the deal). I am a big BifL proponent, but for this one, the math just doesn’t work for us. Depending on your circumstances YMMV. If you expect to be in a home for decades, are in an area with very low utilities that you don't expect to rise or have a home that produces more solar than you use and are not selling back to the grid, are on a well with good flow, then it might be what works best for you. The other thing you have to do is look at the clothes you wear and how things are usually soiled. If you are mostly wearing Carhartts (or equivalent) and work on a farm/construction, then the heavy agitation is probably what you want. If you have a variety of clothing, some dedicates, and average dirt level of clothing, then it probably isn't your machine.

We had the same requirements, and after doing a bit of research we settled on a 5.5 cu ft LG top loader, and a 7.3 cu ft LG dryer combo from Costco. At our previous house we had similar LG units, but without the newfangled wifi stuff, and they were great for many years until we moved.

Purchased an LG with a 10 year compressor warranty. At 10 years and 2 weeks it stopped working. I did zero manitenance to it in those 10 years. I purchased the same fridge when it dies. I created an access panel to the rear coils so I can vacuume once a year. Mani is there a lot of shit that gets in in a year. I am pretty sure my other fridge would have had a longer life if i took 40 minutes once a year with it. Layout of the kitchen counter depth and french door.

I would suggest buying whatever you are buying at Costco because they give an extra years warranty. I rarely get extended warranties, but I did buy one through them and it really paid off. We first purchased a Samsung and were constantly getting the icemaker fixed like everybody else after two years, the extended warranty took over and sent out someone to fix the ice machine a few times. After the third time, they called me up and offered to reimburse me for the entire fridge. They didn't say this, but they had paid so much for repair people to come out, they just wanted to cut their losses. Yes, they sent me a check in the mail for about $2000 which is what we paid for the fridge three years earlier. we demoted this refrigerator into the garage and later sold it. We went back to Costco and purchased an LG this time and of course we got the extended warranty. We rented our house out for two years and everything went well. We moved back in around the third year of the LG and it was one of those with a small access door that was built into the main door of the refrigerator for creamer, cheese, etc. The little button that opened the mini-door was a little loose, but still functional. We were about two years from the end of the extended warranty when I made a call about replacing that button. After a few days, they came back and said they could not find that part to replace the button and once again, I received another $2000 check for the price of the LG. My wife wanted to get a fancier fridge, but I said "no" and just put the money into our savings. We still have the LG and it's going strong and I've never had a problem with it other than that button. I would say my best piece of advice would be to avoid some at all costs, and if you were going to get an icemaker, make sure that the icemaker is in the freezer compartment rather than the refrigerator compartment. You're definitely misremembering. MiniLED screens can get *extremely bright*. It's their best attribute. Darker rooms are where LED's really shine. My next monitor is almsot certainly going to be an OLED specifically because I will be gaming on it. I don't do much "PC" activity at home on a desktop anyway, so OLED downsides won't even matter (and are increasingly non existent anyway)

Lot of people shit on the LG fridges in here (and from what I understand there has been some compressor drama in the past) but I had one in my last house for a few years, sold the fridge with the house and bought a new one of basically the same model for my current house and have been very happy with it for another 2 years. Will it go the distance long term? Can't say but so far so good. Also would mention to look for a non-chain appliance stores near you that sell scratch and dent models. Was able to save almost a grand on my current fridge by getting a "scratch and dent" that was so trivial I could't even tell it was damaged

If you read the sub closely, there are no BIFL brands not named Speed Queen (ie Alliance Laundry). LG is the best of the bad bunch where their top loaders can last 7+ years. You could easily have search for used/refurbished Speed Queen front loads on FB Marketplace or laundromat distributors. Then you could have paid a handyman to 'stack' any branded dryer on top of the Speed Queen front load. (They basically drill some holes and screw in steel mounting braces). > I don't have Speedqueen money Yes you do, because you're now going to be spending more money now than what you would have by buying a used/refurb or scratch-n-dent Speed Queen in the first place.

Implied obsolescence. From the moment you turn it on the OLED pixels are “wearing” whether that’s as a pattern (burn in) or not (uniform pixel wear technology) the panel will never be as bright as the day it was purchased. To be fair, that pixel wear will take 10 years or so to reach a point where it’s noticeable (especially in HDR content) but it’s never the less a fact of the technology design. Many people could never imagine owning a TV longer than 10 years, and for those people, OLED is fine, but I’m waiting for better technology so my LED panel is perfectly fine for my needs, and will last 15 years or more (already 5 years old).

Can’t say I follow the washer conversation here too closely, but the LGs have got top marks from Consumer Reports for years now. That’s why I got a set that’s about 4 years old now with no issues, though obviously they’re still new. I haven’t seen any anti-LG sentiment here but again I may be out of the loop. Samsung on the other hand should absolutely be avoided for any large appliance. Their TVs should be avoided for the advertising, and their phones are great if you can stand the bloatware.

Pro-OLED here. IT guy for 20+ years, hobby photographer, and movie buff forever. Bought my LG OLED 55" \~10 years ago and have been nothing but impressed with it. OLED technology produces better blacks and better contrast than any other panel technology available to the general public now or for the foreseeable future. Burn in was a concern with earlier iterations but has been resolved for any conceivable home use scenario.

Are Speed Queens actually BIFL?
I think some people are just stubbornly luddites when it comes to home appliances. I recently took the plunge on a ventless washer/dryer all-in-one. It's front-load, and the dryer uses a heat-pump. I know these have existed for ages elsewhere in the world, but they're just starting to become more available in the US. I am sold! It's easier - no needing to move wet clothes from one machine to another. It's WAY more efficient, doesn't use inefficient resistive heaters, and doesn't stupidly exhaust hot air to the outside. The entire thing runs off a regular household outlet! The downsides are that the cycles take a while - a full load can take 5 hours. But I'm not in a hurry and it's quiet enough to run overnight. I have concerns about reliability, but these things have been pretty popular in Europe and Asia for over a decade, so I think the kinks have been worked out by now. Also, it's an LG and LG offers a reasonably-priced flat-rate repair program after the warranty runs out so I'm not too concerned.

Miele does not make their own fridges. They are re-branded liebherr. Miele's primary focus is Washing Machines, Dryers, Dishwashers and Vacuums. Almost everything else is either made FOR them or just assembled by them. They are still, usually, good products. I, personally, own many Miele products, but I would never own a Fridge or any kitchen range/stove with their name on it. Too many problems due to them not making the components that go into the products. LG makes a very reliable fridge from the mechanical standpoint. Their plastics are usually trash. So, while the fridge will probably cool for 20 years, you may not have many drawer, trays or other "plastic" items inside the fridge last that long.

For me quality of wash and gentleness on cloths trumps bifl on this one. That being said I’ll go with LG. Mine is 8 years old, my sister’s is 15 and both work well still. I had one shirt that I washed a dozen times and it looked new still. Washed it once in a friend’s new traditional top loader and it came out super faded and awful looking. The shirt was basically ruined. For me I’ll save more and do better being able to keep and use my cloths for way longer. If you are in the market for smaller washers, Miele or even Bosch makes a good one. My parents have had those over the years overseas.

We had SQ top loaders in a previous apartment complex I lived in’s laundry rooms and I swear to god the top loader delicate cycle is fake. I wash everything to this sub’s recommendations (cold water, gentle cycle, 2 tbsp laundry detergent, gentle, low heat dry) and I also had a similar issue with towels and clothes being damaged by how rough it is on your textiles. The dryers also get too hot for a “low” heat setting. It ruined my microfiber towels in 2 wash+dry sessions. I tried their SQ front loaders and had less of an issue with the roughness on my textiles, but their delicate cycle was too short for me to feel like it actually got my clothes/linens clean. Let’s just say I will never buy a SQ laundry set as a result of my experiences. Maytag, LG, or Miele are my current choices if I need to buy new laundry appliances.

65" TV Recommendations
We’ve had our LG C9 65” since 2019 and it’s still perfect. Used daily for hours; smart tv still pretty responsive, picture quality pristine as day one, zero burn in and no discoloration. She’s heavy though, so a sturdy wallmount that is certified for bigger tvs will be required if you’re going to mount it on an arm. If absolute privacy of data is a concern, then Louis Rossmann would advise against an LG as they do store user data on their servers - as most other manufacturers do unfortunately.

Jesus....speed queens suck if "that" is the issue. I use a front loader LG on cold almost exclusively and get exceptionally clean clothes/towels/sheets that doesn't involving having to fill a big tub with water simply to make the clothes float so they can jiggle. With that said there is a "tap cold" and a "cold" setting. Cold makes sure the water is just warm enough (forget the general temp, but not ice cold) to dissolve powder detergents. I will never go back to a top loader again. They make no sense to me.

I feel people overhype washers and dryers. I've had my lg units for over 10 years now and feel I've gotten my money's worth. The capacity is great and they don't have an agitator so the load size is massive. We had to do a minor repair when a kids sock ended up in the pump somehow and an appliance shop was able to easily locate the part.

The best thing I learned from this sub was to stick with repairable or analog appliances. I have an appliance shop and repair near me so if my Miele vacuum breaks down (has not in 8 years) there is someone who knows how to get the parts or how to fix it. We’ve used the same shop for washer and dryer parts (roper that are 10+ years old and came with our house). We even went with a fridge brand that this sub never recommends (LG) because the one we bought which is just literally a fridge and freezer lasted 14 years before it became unrepairable. I did check this sub but again just came away with “if it’s a bare bones fridge you’re good” and got another LG that fits perfectly into the kitchen.

Interesting perspective to see BIFL as a shopping list for wants vs. needs. I've only used it as another data point when shopping for something that I need to replace. So many of the product review sites also just seem to be marketing. It's hard to find real, honest reviews for quality, durable products that hold up to constant use (e.g. a dishwasher or washing machine). Subreddits and sites for repairing things I am buying also provide great information. What product is going to have replacement parts at reasonable prices and be relatively easy to fix? Our washing machine is 18+ years old and will likely be our next appliance to replace. I just did some maintenance on it because it is a quality product, and I prefer to keep it until I have no choice but to replace it. It is an LG Tromm, and I'll likely stick with LG, but I have also researched Speed Queen. LG has seemed to maintain their quality at a more reasonable price than Speed Queen. My KitchenAid mixer is also coming to its end days. KitchenAid has seemed to sacrifice quality in their recent products. So, I will likely replace it with an Ankarsrum mixer when the time comes.

Highly recommend LG, bought mine on Black Friday about 7 years ago and doing great (albeit mine was 50”), I’ve bought Sony and Samsung tvs as well and they’re all trash

Obviously no TV is buy it for life. In my experience, costco usually has the best prices. 32 inches are so cheap now, just get a Sony, Samsung or LG. Im a Samsung person but people seem to really love their sonys.

I have three Samsungs. The user interface on all three is garbage. Fine TVs if you’ll use your own devices but I’d go LG over Samsung based on reviews.
