  Looking for purse recommendations!

  I have 20yo vintage Coach and Burberry that look as good as the day I bought them. I have Fossil and Lonchamp that have just surpassed the 10yr mark and both have held up incredibly well. Louis Vuitton leather, not canvas, just celebrated 5yo.

  Let’s see for $500-$800 you could get a nice leather bag from Longchamp (has held up great!), Polene (I have not yet tried them, but they’re beautiful), Tory Burch, Rag & Bone, etc. I’ve bought online from Cuyana & got a nice leather bag that lasted forever, but that was 10 years ago—they’re still in business. Kate Spade isn’t trendy these days but is well priced and used to hold up well. I’d avoid calfskin as it’s a lot more delicate & can show wear more easily (check Tory Burch on that). I’d ask spouse for a Pinterest board, an actual list of purses she wants, or would just take her shopping for it. It’s harder to buy a purse for someone than jewlery, imho.

  Love my Longchamp. I have the Le Pliage xtra M Hobo Bag that I added a longer strap to so that I can use it as a crossbody bag (which is easier for me to carry with kids). No obnoxious logos but I get compliments on it all the time so I feel like people can tell it’s a quality bag.

  I will say Mulberry has a kick ass Black Friday sale, like 30% off or something like that. In the $500 ish range my picks are Longchamp, Mlouye, Strathberry or Staud. All have had Black Friday deals in the past.

  I have several designer bags (mostly gifted by mom), but my daily has always been leather bags from Longchamp. I also got bags from several French ateliers when I still lived in Brussels, all of which are still in working condition. Now that I have a kid, everything has been downgraded to Portland Leather or Cambridge Satchel. Quality-wise, both brands are good enough for the price.

  Longchamp (lots on the resale/consignment market) or any Roots tribe leather bag would be good suggestions for you. I have a couple of Roots bags from the 90s in the tribe that still look like they did the day I bought them.

  I totally LOVE my Longchamp bag. I have the Le Foulonne Leather Hobo bag, which is lined and has three interior pockets and one exterior pocket. The strap is a solid thickness and the zipper runs sooooo smoothly. It’s timeless, goes with everything, and even fits my 13” laptop. I got it secondhand, and it’s still in pretty much perfect condition after a year of daily use. I tie a silk scarf to the handle for a little extra flair. Can’t recommend enough!!!

  I have tons of leather bags from Longchamp that I love. They are “quiet” luxury so no visible labels or anything but they still look and feel extremely upscale. I have a few Ive had for 10+ years that are in great shape.

  BIFL HS Grad gift for my daughter

  My parents gave me pearls (necklace, bracelet, and ring) and I still wear them. I also got a pair of longchamp bags and although they didn’t last forever they lasted at least 10 years and were super useful.

  Recommendations for Designer Backpack

  No you're right, mfs really said "This is not the place for "designer"", if that isn't gatekeeping I don't now what is. They outright claim "BIFL is understated, quality and no brand names", as if it can't be anything more or anything less. It doesn't matter if they write "most" in one sentence out of four - this sub loves to gatekeeper. Coach has excellent leather for the price - vintage examples still look lovely years later, great hardware, good construction, designs aren't anything special. They aren't designer, but easily the best value. Loewe, Longchamp, & Bottega vintage examples can be very good, but you have to search around. Their modern bags aren't bad at all either, just extremely expensive for what you get and middling design. Same with Celine, Dior, Chloe, Bulgari, they all have had some good pieces over the years, but you need to do your research as to which leather which bags use and the construction of said bag, I would never buy those brands retail. Quality on a lot of these went down post LVMH buyout, so you really have to do your research and if possible learn to feel the leather be able to differentiate between good leathers and cheap leathers coated in plastics and whatnot. People here conflate quality with value. LV bags are horrible value retail. But to say a neverful empreinte bag isn't a BIFL purchase and low quality just because its designer would be lying - you can get significantly better leather from local artisans for the same money no doubt, but treat it well and it will last you a lifetime. Hermes is probably the biggest example of this, insane margins, insane markups, but the crafstmanship is there no doubt. As long as you are well aware you are paying in majority part for the high margins, logo, designer label, design, and marketing, and that the bag only really takes 1/10th of the MSRP to construct, its a fine purchase. I've been using a hermes double-tour watch strap for the better part of a decade now, and my has a vintage herbag, and they have both aged wonderfully.
