  If you started your wardrobe over from scratch, what would you buy? (US)

  Ralph Lauren Purple Label, Brunello Cucinelli, Loro Piana, Turnbull & Asser. LP has some issues in my opinion more recently with the blends, some are nice and unavoidable like outerwear others I question. Occasionally when traveling I’ve found some niche local brand producing clothing I’ve bought but it’s quite a bit of effort.

  What’s the BIFL item that you love but everyone around you thinks is ridiculous?

  I got a 3 piece suit made in Bangkok by a high end tailor trained in France, out of loro piana wool. Spent half a month salary on it, 15 years ago. I got fatter and ripped the pants at the seam but it holds up so well. My parents thought I was nuts to spend that much, but I feel like a million bucks every time I wear it.

  My bf is literally the same and this is what I suggest: 1. Highly recommend a watchmaking class in Switzerland (if you’re in Europe or can afford to go there) at the Audemars Piquet Museum - https://museeatelier.audemarspiguet.com It’s super exclusive and a once-in-a-lifetime experience. You can buy him a voucher for I think 400$ and it doesn’t have an expiration date. There’s cheaper options from other watchmaking brands, too. 2. If you’re planning a vacation, get him a helicopter tour or even a class on flying a small plane. I find this an amazing experience you can do almost anywhere. 3. Research japanese denim jeans - they’re super in trend rn (there’s groups about it on reddit), brands are: ONI, Samurai, PBG (pure blue japan), Momotaro 4. A japanese knifes set, a super limited edition wine opener (find something with a story) - if he’s into wine. Cufflinks of his taste. I personally sent my bf 5-7 examples of cufflinks to see what’s his taste then select something similar so it’s still as surprise. 5. Any garments made of high-quality wool (think Loro Piana) or 100% cashmere are always a classy, long-term investment! I asked my bf to answer your question and he said your bf “just wants a kiss” hehe. Good luck!

  I’m looking for a sweater that will last me a long time & is very comfortable - an investment (:

  This has been my fixation for the past couple of years. Recs for women/anyone looking for a slightly more feminine look below. I also have a bias towards natural fibers which is a little irrational. Buying new: - Expensive but good quality and on trend: babaa wool sweaters. Oversized chunky knits from Spain, more fashion forward in the sense that their sleeves trend towards bat wing. They have sales throughout the year at regular times, always 25% off. Mid 300 euro range. Softens as you wear it. I bought one last year and wore it several times a week, it’s among my favorite purchases ever. - Aran knit sweater- classic Irish wool sweaters. Unfortunately I find that a lot of these have trended towards merino blends (which is not what I want in a durable chunky sweater, give me some heavy regular wool!). But it’s always well priced and excellent quality. - LL Bean’s cotton sweaters are a favorite Buying vintage: - expensive option: you can find vintage Loro Piana in the 300-400$ range on eBay, among the highest quality cashmere available! Definitely not indescrructible but timeless and will last a lifetime with care. - Pendleton wool sweaters are dirt cheap on resale, always at my Goodwill and shopgoodwill.com, and high quality. I do find them scratchier than my other wool sweaters. - Ralph Lauren and Pringle of Scotland are brands I’ve had luck with in the vintage category

  Muji, Banana Republic for everyday-wear. CT, Loro, and Brunello. IMHO suits should never be bought off the rack — mind are all hand-stitched and (more importantly) cut for me. I buy suit material opportunistically. Suit supply is okay — they use a method called made to measure which can give good results but is not BIFL. And you only really need two suits: navy and charcoal.

  Suit Supply has stores in AU! They are amazing in its price point (~200 AUD for a shirt) you really cant go wrong there if the style fits your needs. The fabric and tailoring quality is very good. The brands I listed first should be available as well, but they are really creme de la creme. Especially Loro Piana. Super expensive, but top notch quality. Stoffa leather jackets are also known to be worth the investment (2,5k €).

  Loro Piana, Stoffa, Zegna, Canali, Corneliani. Suit Supply, Banana Republic, Castatlantic. All are on the more expensive side though. Alternatively, look for more „local” brands. I don’t know if you’re EU or US, but in EU most countries have nice small brands that produce locally and keep the classic/casual look with good quality.

  Gift for the man who has it all

  Trip to Hokkaido and go skiing in Niseko. Stay at the park Hyatt on residences side w/private onsen. They have a -really nice- shuttle to get you from the airport. The in-hotel dining options are just OK (exception: breakfast buffet- SO many different options and super high quality tasty foods) but there’s a shuttle to go grocery shopping nearby. Spa can be difficult to get an appt so plan ahead. The skiing is amazing. So much powder. Truly ski in/ski out. They have a ski concierge to bring your stuff in and out. The lockers are heated. Designer boutique store inside the resort with plenty of unique high end items for men and women. You don’t need to be able to speak Japanese to go. This place is completely luxurious. On the way back, stop in Tokyo for a couple days. Get a counter reservation at Bar Centifolia. Go shopping- Plenty of cool and unique sneakers in Japan. Get some super cozy sheepskin moccasins (LL bean) or a really nice warm scarf (Loro Piana) or heated socks/gloves/vest and say something like “you’ll need these to keep you warm n cozy after a day of skiing”

  Yes it is true- quality clothes are harder to find.

  What’s one product you bought that has lasted forever and was totally worth it?

  Loro Piani blazer purchased more than 25 years ago. Worn it everywhere, constantly getting compliments on the look, and the thing looks brand new. Even the lining still looks like it came from the store. So it probably cost about 2-3 times what a normal store brand blazer would have cost, but it looks like it will be there for the rest of my earthly existence. Bargain by any measure.
