  Actually warm pyjama pants

  I have 100% cotton waffle lined flannel pajama pants from Prana. They’re several years old so idk if you could find them but you might be able to find something similar. I also have wool blend sweat pants that are Lululemon that are cozy and warm. I got them off Poshmark 5 years ago. I see merino wool sweatpants on Thredup sometimes. I would go for something like that.

  Any experience with Manduka yoga mats ?

  They are great quality but on a bit more of the slippery side. There’s a whole process involving salt and sun to make them less slippery but I haven’t bothered. The pro is heavy and large, too heavy to tote around to classes in my opinion. I do think they are BIFL and I like to have one at home. But for travel/classes I really like the 5mm lululemon mats: perfect level of grip, easy to transport, good level of cushioning. If my joints are feeling a bit achier I layer this one on top of the Manduka also. It’s softer than the Manduka and the grip makes it easier.

  What are your opinions on Fabletics?

  I have liked the items from Fabletics. I cancelled my membership for a few years and just made a purchase at the beginning of December. I was sent a message a week later that the shipment was delayed and there was no further communication. I messaged with customer service today and was told the shipment would be remade missing two of the items as they were out of stock. So now I have to wait until January for the shipment of the remaking items I ordered, less two items, with one of them being a matching item that is no longer available. In the past, while there were cute things on the site, if you did not get your order in by 12:15 am on the day they dropped their new items, it was likely that you would not get the new items. It seems that perhaps the inventory and shipping issues are still not resolved. I think I will have to cancel again. I may try Lululemon, as there have been many positive comments about the product and I have never tried them.

  I wear scrubs to work. Carrhart has held up quite well so I would likely repurchase. On my days off, I tend to wear athleisure for to and from physical activity and while not truly bifl, I have some 20 year old Lululemon items in rotation. I love trying to find new old stock. For footwear, Clark's have held up well but eventually the inner cushioning and sole breaks down. For people who have resoled shoes, what do you do about the internal cushioning and arch support?

  If you started your wardrobe over from scratch, what would you buy? (US)

  I recently moved overseas to a much, much colder continent so I did have to a) declutter and sort through everything I own, b) pack the clothes I needed for the year in a single suitcase and then c) collect a lot of new stuff to suit the new climate. I also might have a few contrasting choices as I'm a young-ish woman who likes dressing up and wearing interesting pieces (e.g. there's not a single grey thing in my wardrobe). I brought with me: **Tops:** 10-ish t-shirts, most from second-hand stores or small businesses; 3 cotton longsleeves (to be transparent, they're all Taylor Swift merch); 1 merino wool and 1 merino/silk blend long sleeve; 1 thermal shirt; 1 corduroy button up/light layer; 1 men's linen button up; 3 sports jerseys for working out **Dresses:** 4 thrifted cotton dresses - 1 mini, 2 midi, 1 maxi **Outerwear:** my Kathmandu raincoat and another rain-resistant jacket; 2 sweaters; 1 puffer jacket **Bottoms:** 3 thin cotton or linen pants (all fun patterns); 1 pair of hiking pants; 2 pairs of bike shorts; 2 mini skirts; 1 thermal pants; Lululemon leggings **Shoes:** black RM Williams boots; brown blundstones; white converse; teva sandals. The converse are falling apart (4-ish years old?) so will need to be replaced by another everyday walking sneaker and I'm keeping an eye out for brown leather boots to better match some outfits. Plus socks & underwear, swimmers, hats, beanie, bags etc. I've purchased another merino wool long sleeve, some soft cotton lounge/pyjama pants, some wool/polyester trousers, some thermal leggings and some jersey trousers from Uniqlo, a coat from a vintage store, and a Patagonia fleece from a second hand store. I also bought some 100% wool trousers from a second hand shop but they accidentally ended up in the wash and shrunk (still feeling their loss). This is tiding me over well for now, but I'm still building up my collection of athletic/hiking/outdoorsy gear and hoping to do that as sustainably as possible - sourcing secondhand, buying from reputable (and inevitably expensive) brands, choosing natural fibres etc. Also on my list: another sundress (but holding out for the perfect one), a pair of leggings more suited to running (as opposed to yoga) and a long gingham skirt. Long (sorry!) but I've been thinking about my wardrobe a lot this year so had lots of thoughts to put down!

  Something that may or may not be relevant: the problem could be with your underwear, not your leggings. I used to wear through brand new jeans and pants in like 9 months, but it’s because the seams in my underwear were too think and rubbing the fabric through. I switched brands and now my pants (mostly Lululemon) last years. I also always hang them to dry rather than put them through the dryer, which also helps.

  How to identify good quality clothing (so you don’t waste your $$$)

  Just a note. For when you want a synthetic blend (i.e. gym clothes/sunshirts) hunt for ones that are predominantly nylon. Nylon is both sturdier and oleophobic which means it naturally repels oil where polyester attracts it. Its the oil getting trapped in polyester that makes it stink/stain so fast. A few recommendations: Saxx Kinetic line for compression shorts, Lululemon License to Train line for gym clothes, Black diamond alpenglow pro sun shirts

  What’s one item you think should be built to last, but never is?

  Claw clips? Yeah, they can be pretty hit or miss, plus, even if the fabrication/construction is BIFL, the physical design might not work to effectively or comfortably hold your particular hair in the style you prefer. I have some that are 100% metal with extra nubs to help hold the spring in place--probably BIFL unless the cheapo metal rusts/tarnishes/flakes--but the spindly metal design of the upper means that the loose ends of my hair tend to get tangled in them. (But the upper has to be spindly, otherwise the clip would be really heavy.) After having all my Goody/Conair/Scunci claw clips break more or less quickly, I gave up on paying drugstore haircare brand prices and started buying clearance/no-brand fashion clips, figuring that if it's a disposable item, might as well get it as cheaply as possible. But from trial and error with that, I feel like I've developed a better feel for which plastics and which designs are more likely to be durable. (The ones that are like a tube of long skinny fingers? Yeah, I expect those to start snapping off quickly.) My all-time favorite clip came from a bin of 99-cent off-brand hair accessories at CVS. Some of my other favorites came from Daiso (Japanese dollar store), although Daiso sells a wide and ever-changing variety of clips of varying designs and materials. Looking at Lululemon's hair clips online, yeah, those do look like they're strong, good quality plastic. I also notice that some of them are called "extra-large" or "jumbo"--if your wife busts springs a lot, I wonder if the volume of hair that she's clipping tends to push average-sized clips to their limit. It might just be worth paying Lululemon prices for the reliability and quality--at least she's found something that works.

  Hair clips. The only ones my wife has found that don’t crumble or explode after a couple months of use are the expensive ones from Lululemon. Honestly, it costs nothing to use a plastic that doesn’t shatter or a half decent spring that’s mounted properly. Anyone know of something that’s any good and doesn’t cost a fortune?

I have small feet and can't find small but thin socks - have tried bunch of other well regarded brands but they're either too big or too thick for my liking. I do wish they'd bring back more patterns in both leggings and stocks but then again the stuff I have never really needs to be replaced so I really don't need any more.

  What products used to be well built back in the day but now are low quality?

  Lululemon. I purchased a pair of yoga pants from them in 2006 in Toronto when they didn’t have much of a US market yet. Those were QUALITY. They outlasted anything I purchased in the US after 2009ish. I had them for over 15 years before they got a tiny hole in the crotch. The material also felt softer.

  Name your top 5 BIFL items

  My top five: 1. Tempurpedic mattress - going strong for 11 years and still feels like new 2. Blendtec blender - had it for 10 years and over 4k blends (it keeps track on the blender, which I love) and still going strong. I know the Vitamix is outstanding and told myself I’d buy one when the Blendtec dies, but here we are. Especially if you just need a blender and not necessarily all the additional functions Vitamix offers, Blendtec is durable and exceptional. 3. The OG Lululemon Wunderunder leggings - bought mine 15 years ago and they still look like new after years of hot yoga and group fitness classes. 4. Ethan Allen dining table - over 35+ years old. My parents gave their table and chairs to us. Wound up upgrading to new chairs from Ruggable a few years ago, but the table continues to be in exceptional condition. 5. Sorel boots - I live in Wisconsin, so my winter boots get heavy use and I’m impressed that my Joan of Artic pair are still warm and have excellent traction for the past 8 years.

  Good quality yoga pants

  For something durable and comfortable, I’d recommend looking into brands like **Lululemon**, **Athleta**, or **Girlfriend Collective**. They offer great options with longer inseams that should work well for tall folks. **Lululemon's Align leggings** are super popular and buttery soft, but a bit on the pricey side (definitely worth it if you're doing a lot of yoga). If you’re looking for something more budget-friendly, **Old Navy’s PowerSoft** leggings are amazing for the price, and they have some good tall options too. Another thing to consider is the fabric.   I tried my first pair of Lulus last year and wish I bought them sooner. Specifically the T.H.E. shorts which are now disontinued, but if you look second hand at likenew.lululemon or ebay you can still find them. They are my absolute favorite pair for squatting and deadlifting and have been keeping an eye out for when I find another one for sale

  Oh sorry I see you said inexpensive. I found a Rhône shirt at Nordstrom for 150. I loved the shirt and material but I had remorse for spending so much on a dumb polo shirt so I took it back. Later I was thinking about just getting it again, looked online and on their website was the exact same shirt for $60. So my advice would be to stick with the high end brands but get them on sale. I’ve noticed that clothing is getting more and more polarizing. it’s all cheap fast fashion bullshit. I bought Zara shit once and gave it all away after one wash. It’s absolutely garbage and it’s causing big landfill problems. The quality brands are actually getting better. The materials and blends they use are really nice and hold up. You can get really soft materials that wick moisture, stay true to shape and last. The trick is to get them on sale. They have high end secondhand stores now. Also online close out is great. I know lululemon has several different ways to get things cheaper. Spend a little more get fewer clothes that you really like and be happier.

  I came here specifically because my Pair-of-thieves boxer briefs have not been working for me at all 😅 not in the military but I work out 3-5 days a week, and I always find myself adjusting my boxers bc they ride up from anything that requires leg mobility. I tried my usual Mediums which is my current closet, large was too loose and trying small size today I still notice some riding and it feels a little too snug compared to the medium. It really sucks bc they are pretty breathable and the designs can look cool, but the riding-up is inevitable within 2 hours. I understand my thighs are thicker than average from leg days but if neither of those 3 sizes are working for me then I have to assume the brand just isn’t the one (For me). I tried the pair that had the ball pouch too and those were immediately too stuffy. I guess I’ll try the Lululemon ones mentioned in a reply above

  The Lululemon ABC 5 pocket pant in the warpstreme fabric is my current favorite. Well constructed, comfortable, stretchy, cool, quick drying, comes in a lot of colors. I have several pairs in different colors to match different outfits and they're the only kind of pant I have anymore. I never have to try on pants because I know the exact make/model/size that will fit me and so I can just order them as needed, or stick up when they go on sale. They're a bit more than $100 normally, but you can find them at the Lululemon outlets (whether they have your size can be an issue) and they often go on sale as low as $70 or so.

  what are your BIFL ADHD products that make life easier?

  Prepacked bags! Work bag: I have a really solid backpack that keep all of my might-needs in it: house key and transit pass permanently attached to it, lip balm, gum, pens, small notebook, a multi tool, phone charger, hair ties, a couple of granola or snack bars and 20 bucks in a pocket in case I forget my lunch bag. I have a Patagonia that is almost 10 years old and going strong. Lunch bag: has ziplocs of tea bags, shelf stable snacks, travel set knife, fork spoon, and then I add my lunch in. I have a Fluf bag that is washable and stuffs down easily. Work locker bag: it has a backup set of necessities: tampons, toothbrush and toothpaste, socks, undies, pain meds, bandaids, pain meds, hair ties and more. I use a small canvas cotton men’s shaving kit bag. Errands bag: a roomy cross body bag which is where my car/house keys live. I also keep small shopping bags that fold down to fist size, wallet, lip balm, sunglasses, pen, and refillable water bottle. I have a Lululemon bag that must be 15 years old, their older stuff is indestructible. By having grab and go bags, I don’t have to think about the odds and ends that one would normally grab before leaving the house, nothing goes from bag to bag, it sets me up for success. The bags have to work for you, the right number of pockets, a style and pattern that you like and easy to use.

  Men’s pants that won’t rip?

  They’re not jeans, but I wear Lululemon pants nearly everyday for work, and I work in a place that requires lots of moving, squatting, and lots of dirt. I would’ve never even thought of buying some, but I went with my fiancé and just tried on a pair. Loved them. Definitely go try them on cause the fit can be a little different by the different styles, and they’re not cheap. But worth every penny IMO.

  I don't know. I guess Lululemon can be considered outdoor gear in a way? You can get certain Canadian-made gear from SAIL as well. MEC, supposedly a Canadian company, was acquired by the US, so not that, either.

  In need of warm winter coat with a budget of $350-400

  I have the lululemon 600 down fill long jacket and it’s great. For context I’m in Canada, and it’s freaking cold. It doesn’t go to your calf but it will hit your knee.

  some brands I’ve used or heard others on here support: Patagonia, Blundstone, Branwyn, Quince, Smartwool & mixed reviews on Lululemon align leggings but I do personally think they last at least 2x as long as other leggings if you take care of them & don’t put in the dryer

  What's your most comfortable and durable piece of clothing?

  The one that’s been in my closet the longest is the Columbia Omni-Heat winter jacket. It was black and now has faded to a dark gray. I bought it from one of the sporting goods stores for $140 when I was living on my own with an income of $23k per year. I grew up with my grandma buying me $30 jackets from Wal-Mart every year and they were never warm enough (I run cold). The $140 was a lot at the time. That was 15 years ago, so that’s $10 per year. I’m hoping my Lululemon leggings last for a while. Got them last fall, and so far, they’re holding up well!

  Lulu Lemon has great pants that last a long time. Don't buy from Sene, they are very poor quality and overpriced. They take a long time to get and don't take return, very poor company.

  patagonia is my 🫶🫶🫶🫶. madewell, everlane, lululemon, and aritzia are where most of my primary wardrobe comes from although quality has gone wayyyyy downhill recently. and i adore reformation for the long dresses.

  I read the article.. $79USD isn't expensive if you consider that Lululemon charges $120CDN for a hoodie, and it's made overseas. I'd go with these guys over Lulu any day.
