I’m in Spain for the holidays, what are some BIFL/quality items I can get here that I can’t get in the US?
Camper is on the massive/mediocre quality. OP, check out Carmina or Meermin

Recommendations for Derby/Oxford style dress shoes?
No problem. So, from a construction / longevity point of view, Beckett Simonon mostly use a Blake stitch, not a Goodyear welt. Blake is much better than a glued (cemented) sole and can be resoled, but: – Not every cobbler has the machine for it. – Each resole takes a little more out of the leather, so you usually get fewer “lives” out of the shoe than with a Goodyear or storm welt. If your top priority is maximum lifespan and easy resoles, I’d still lean toward a Goodyear-welted pair (Thursday/Meermin Linea Classic or anything similar you like the look of). If you particularly love a Beckett design and you’re not wearing them hard every day, they can still be a solid option – just worth knowing you’re trading a bit of potential lifespan for that sleeker Blake-stitched look.

Recommendations for Derby/Oxford style dress shoes?
Meermin shows 2 pairs under $200. Thursday shows a few but I their shoes are beneath my quality threshold. YMMV.

Men's Penny loafers?
I own a pair of Meermin shell cordovan loafers and they're pretty good. They're goodyear welted, so they can be resoled as long as the uppers are intact. I bought them during Meermin's seconds sale.

Men's dress shoes recommendations
bruno marc is basically entry-level. they look good, they’re cheap, but they’re not lifetime shoes. for someone who’s gonna wear them once in a while, totally fine. for everyday, they’ll wear out and start hurting pretty fast. that said, they're a good entry point into testing out what works for you. if you want something that lasts, look into goodyear welted shoes, allen edmonds in the us, loake or meermin if you’re fine with ordering online.

Confession: I only buy clothes and most items made pre-2020
Not to mention meermin and Beckett Simonon for more formal shoes around the Thursday price range. I hear Beckett simonon’s sneakers are good too but haven’t gotten a pair. Once you get to Grant Stone price range there are lots of options for bifl footwear.

Chelsea Boot Suggestions: Beckett Simonon Preston, Ariat Wexford, Thursday Legend, or AE Grafton
Clearly, not all shoe manufacturers represent size the same and that's an undeniable fact. Especially when the age old AE advice is "down half a size up a width". Also, Meermin uses UK sizing to add complexity, and I do in fact wear different sizes in all of the types of boots/shoes listed. I figure someone who has maybe bought AEs and one of the brands listed could offer a simple "They match or I shifted a half size up/down, etc" that seems fairly common Call it conclusion shopping if you'd like, but I found a few options I liked that fit my budget range from brands I'd heard of and came to the world wide web to see if anyone had any particulary good or bad experiences with them - a normal approach similar to searching for recommendation lists while researching what to by as I did to compile my main 4. Many kind uses suggested Meermins, and after some more research, I went with them. It's great when someone asks for advice/suggestions and others give it leading to a, hopefully, positive purchase vs whatever attempt at asserting dominance over strangers you're pretending to do
