Mercedes makes as many crap engines as it does good ones, sadly, and the Sprinter gets its fair share of both. A lot depends on which engine and which year you get. Both V6 (3.0L OM642 Diesel and 3.5L M272 Petrol) are good, though some M272 years are problematic with balance shaft issues, and the OM642 had the 2010 cam chain problems too. In 2019 the petrol V6 was dropped and the OM642 is the only V6 they come with. The 1.8L M271 is kinda bad, quite a few common issues but most people don't get them, the 2.0 OM646 is good, but the 2.0 OM651 is an absolute lemon, nothing but issues, I'd never buy a car with one of those. So yeah, depends who you talk to and which version they drive, but there's a good reason why most of the western world uses V6 OM642 Sprinters for their ambulances.

Brands That Used to Be BIFL — But Aren't Anymore?
The last incredible MB I had was a 1990 300D. Bar none the best car I have ever owned. When they started add all the electronics in the mid to late 90's everything changed. The last MB I owned was a 2007 320E. At around 8000 miles I was pulling onto a major highway and the entire panel of lights started flashing with instructions to pull off the road, cut the engine and get out of the car. I had to have it towed 100 miles. MP replaced the panel and I drove it for another 1000 miles and a major hail storm hit and did $15,000 in damage. I think the message was clear. I sold it that was my last one.

What's the oldest item you still use daily that has withstood the test of time, and what's its story?
My 1985 w201 diesel manual Benz. Hard but starts in -20°C and below. Rust needs fixing, gas needs fueling, tyres needs changing. Rides better than any EV I’ve tried. Bring biased of course.
