  Which type of pan is the BIFL king?

  I love cast iron (lots of frying pans/skillets and Le Creuset pans and casseroles)… But it is bloody heavy, and that’s before you put the food in! So I do use them, but my stainless steel gets used considerably more (20 year old Meyer set still going strong)

All of these items are made in Canada and/or Canadian companies: \- Meyer for cookware and kitchen items; \- Takasa for sheets and towels; \- Grohmann knives; \- Lee Valley products are high-quality, if not BIFL; \- Industrie Villageois for furniture; \- Endy or Douglas for mattresses Non MIC, but durable: \- Breville toaster ovens; \- Kitchen Aid stand mixers. Avoid KA small appliances such as mini-choppers and hand mixers; \- Vitamix blenders; \- Briggs and Riley is a good choice for luggage if you have access to their repair depots

  If she insists on this weird version of enforced gifting, then do some good by getting a local/national product. If you are Canadian, then ask for Grohmann knives, MIC Meyer pots or some other MIC product.

  Buyitforlife from Canada, what’s your favourite things made in Canada?

  Ive had a rebranded Meyer's set for 18 years (It was a Paderno made in canada set, that I found out was made by Meyer) and can confirm it is a BIFL, as a SS set at least. The SS pan I still have. I gave the rest to my mum inlaw because I needed more small pots and she needed bigger ones, and she still uses them daily. All pieces are still in service and work perfectly. No loose handles or anything. Good construction. :) I have one I was eyeballing at the Bay over the Christmas shopping. haha. Cant justify the extra cost right now, but maybe in a couple months. :)

  Cookware - Meyer (Canada) I’ve only had my set for a year or so, but they are made in Newfoundland Canada and are great quality stainless cookware sets.

  What brand / type of pots & pans are worth investing in as a young adult?

  Buy the pieces separately you use the most. Most times you'll get pieces in sets you'll never use. Calphalon stainless is nice. If you want to tick off Trump, there is Meyer cookware from Canada that's beautiful. Handy tip. Whatever you buy, make sure it has either a rim or pouring spout. Straight sided pans pour straight down the side and make a mess. I see it all the time on cooking shows with chefs using their $300 All-Clad saucepans.

  Meyer’s stainless steel cookware is manufactured in PEI. I’ve had mine for about three years but they definitely feel like BIFL quality.
