  Cashmere and merino from J.Crew and Banana Republic cause irritation. Should I try higher-end brands or look for alternatives?

  If you are looking for athletic grade merino, try Trew Gear, Voormi, or Minus 33. Trew and Minus 33 are butter soft. Voormi is not as soft, but there is no itch.

  Minus33 makes a 100% wool boxer brief that's great for workouts and general daily wear. Arms of Andes makes various 100% alpaca underwear as well. I've tried blends from all the brands over the years and stick to 100% versions, except for socks.

  If you’re working outdoors or in cold environments, go with merino wool. It’s warm even when damp, doesn’t smell, and lasts for years if you take care of it. Icebreaker, Smartwool, and Minus33 all make solid merino long johns — they’re not cheap, but you’ll only need to buy once. Avoid full synthetic ones unless you’re moving constantly; they trap sweat and get smelly fast.

  Warmest beanie for Siberia - so what lil brains I have don't freeze.

  I have a Minus33 beanie and a big head and it fits fine- slightly snug but not uncomfortable. I’m in MN and it holds up in most weather. With a fur hat layered on top I think it’d be perfect for Siberia.

  I live near the equator - so I was hoping to find a BIFL type of hat to wear when we take winter trips (every few years). I bought Minus 33 warmest thermals before and those have been great. Always prefer to pay more once and then take care of it... But you're also right - warmth is more important than BIFL.. however price and quality sometimes go hand and hand (sometimes not)

  I just bought a minus 33 for my wife. It is enormous. It is hilariously big on her, and plenty big on me (I have a fairly large hat size).

  Minus 33 - I really like mine. It is very light, very warm for it's weight. It is a little small, it does fit a bit snugly, but it is very stretchy so it fits, it's just a wee bit snug. Rothco Jeep cap - OD Army issue - These are very nice. Not quite as warm. I do like the brim, though! Walmart used to carry an insulated acrylic polar or artic beanie. I've literally had mine for 20+ years. I have no idea if the new ones are as good. But it is actually too warm for "warm" days during the winter. As others have suggested - buying a local hat is probably best, I'd just grab one of these and wear it until you can get a local hat. Besides, a Siberian hat would be quite a souvenir, anyway.

  Minus 33 is solid. I’ve been using it in NYC this month and it’s been great. Wife is from Russia — she wears the same one and also loves it. So it gets two thumbs up here.

  Capacitive touchscreen gloves that are flexible / high dexterity, and will still work on touchscreens after much use and many washes?

  Take a look at fingerless wool gloves. I have multiple pairs from Sealskin and Minus33 (Minus33 are thicker and warmer) and really like them. Much easier for little things like using your phone or tying your shoes etc. I never liked trying to use a phone with the screen friendly gloves. They kind of work, for a while, but feel sloppy.
