  What Are the Best Travel Shoes That Are Actually Worth It?

  I agree with others. There are no shoes that are BIFL. Rubber wears out. Foam disintegrates. Leather wears. Fabric rips. But I find that a good pair of running sneakers is best for travel. Comfortable and durable through airports and whatever place you are walking high mileage through. I currently wear good Mizuno. I like their cushioning as a >200lb person. I find their carbon rubber soles to outlast any brand out there. Also for travel to rainy climates like Japan or Seattle I think the Nike Pegasus Gore- Tex models are versatile, comfortable and waterproof breathable. I find that the chunky hiking soles of hiking models and brands are not comfortable on pavement or concrete and are actually slippery on wet flat surfaces. They were meant for gravel and dirt.

  I've got some NB993 I can't even remember what year I bought them that have accompanied me in many trips and are still fine. But ofc it all depends on how you treat them. Other than that I can swear by Clarks brand (they've got plenty of casual shoes for all uses). And more recently I've been using some Mizuno GTX shoes (can't remember model) but they are extremely confortable and seem durable.

  Waterproof Everyday/Running Shoes Recommendation

  Mizunos are the first “real” running shoes I bought and I’m pretty happy with them. Also got them on a better sale than other brands. Second this recommendation.

  I am loving Mizuno shoes. They are often sold quite cheap and really hold up. Granted their waterproof shoes, like ALL waterproof shoes are not waterproof, they will all kick water up onto your legs which runs down into your shoes. But apart from that are great. They are comfortable, grippy and so far are lasting well. I also bought ON Cloud 6 Waterproof which are basically the same thing but double the price. And half the quality IMO. They don't feel as nice to walk in and they are slippery af on wet surfaces.

  The Best Running Shoes Right now? Recommendation?

  Saucony, Asics, and Brooks are all well built, serious running shoes. New Balance, Mizuno, and Hoka also have some conpetitive offerings. I would stay away from any of the fashion shoes from Nike or Adidas

  Your welcome! I don't like the color scheme of the new Mizuno Waves as much (black/sliver)...the old ones were gray and red, understated so they worked in a lot of situations, and were comfy as heck.

  Non-popular sneakers which will last at least couple of years

  Saucony, Brooks, Mizuno, Mammut, Innov8, Salewa, Scarpa, Sportiva, Lowa. All of those have a particular reputation for longevity and general quality. Bear in mind it may depend on the particular purpose, for instance more specialist/high performance models of those brands may be comparatively short lived, i.e. shoes that are intended to help you win a race at all costs. :)  But in truth the BIFL answer is to buy cheap when sales come around. Combine with the above, there's your answer. Shoes don't live forever, it's about making your money go further.

  Wide sneakers suggestions

  I have very wide feet as well and have run in Mizuno shoes for the past 10 years. Never had a problem. They are a Japanese brand and are quite durable and made for wider feet. I would try some of those out. I really like the Wave Rider.

  Mizuno! I actually have a pair of badminton shoes from them. Even though I don't use it daily, it's still going strong and shiny 😂. But I have never thought about using them as daily shoes. Thank you for sharing!

  Have not seen it mentioned yet, but as a racquetball player I got a pair of Mizuno Wave2 court shoes (think they are marketed as volleyball shoes). Super comfortable and fixed some foot issues I was having. Retired my first pair and got the new model for the courts, but have used the old ones for 2 years for all-around use. Numerous vacations (hiking in Arizona and Hawaii, river trips, concerts), and just comfortable every day use for around town. Reason I replied to this is that I was just commenting to my wife about how amazingly durable they have been. (figured I’d be tossing them after that first vacation, but still going strong).

  How is ASICS durability?

  I have gone through a few pairs when I was running. I would get last year's model for half price at Big 5. The foams used in running shoes compress with use. You can put in new insoles. The trail dust and my wide toes were kind of rough on the shoes and I wore them far longer than I should have for good running comfort. I think they were a good value when I had them. I have a pair in a box I only wore briefly before a program giften me a nice new pair of Nikes to test. By that point I wasn't running or hiking much so the Nikes are in pretty good shape still. My daily walk-around shoes are a pair of Mizuno cross trainers, over $100. They have a flatter sole than a running shoe usually does and I like that if I'm not on my feet a lot.

  BIFL, but also BISecondhand. What are some things that everyone should keep an eye out for, but can commonly be found for cheap when preowned.

  My brother wants me to start golfing since he picked it up. I don’t have much interest in it, but hey it’s something we can do together. He spent ~$300~ on a full set of clubs from marketplace. Decent deal. Probably paid a little under used market value. I however have gotten: An Ogio bag A hodge podge of irons wedges woods and hybrids. All being Taylormade Cleveland Nike Mizuno and the lone Wilson Ultra lol A no name putter that I got because it’s a mallet style putter but it’s lime green, so I look like I’m going on the PGA putt putt tour And last but not least my drivers King Cobra L4V 10 degree and Callaway Warbird Ruger Titanium 10 degree Clubs + Bag I’m all in $45-55 after tax by thrifting them. And $25 of it was for a a set of clubs I bought at goodwill. It was an older no name brand full set, BUT that’s where I got the Taylormade from. Lol So I’ll sell the complete set and boom. Free Taylormade.

  Where Does "Buy It for Life" Not Make Sense?

  gym shoes for running/walking! I'm from Chicago and we use "Gym Shoes" to refer to the shoes that, depending on where you might be from you might call "tennis shoes" "sneakers" "tennies" or "trainers". [This](https://cdn.sweatband.com/mizuno_wave_rider_20_ladies_running_shoes_aw17_mizuno_wave_rider_20_ladies_running_shoes_aw17_2000x2000.jpg) is what I see in my mind when I say "gym shoes" Apparently "Gym Shoes" is a Chicago dialect/accent thing 🤷🏻‍♀️, which was something that I only learned after I moved away from Chicago to go to college 😂.
