Good affordable espresso makers
Moka is the only good short coffee you're going to make in a home. There is no domestic machine better and you can't run a full café machine without keeping it up and maintained. The pots last a good decade.

Tiny coffee gadgets that make a big difference?
I bought my mocca stovetop espresso pot in Italy about 40 years ago. New gaskets now and then, it still works great. I don't use my Turkish coffee pot often, but it'll never break and it's fun to use.

Best Coffee machines recommendation?
A trusty Moka pot is BIFL, pair it with a decent grinder and a vacuum storage jar and you’re all set. Unless you specifically want espresso, then buy a machine. What did your pal have? If you liked the coffee out of it maybe just buy that one.
