  Hiking Jacket Help & Advice

  I'm a big fan of the UK brand Mountain Equipment. Have a look here for some discounted stuff of theirs.  https://www.magic-mountain.co.uk/ No one jacket will work in all those conditions without layering but most people would get a Goretex jacket for the rain then layer fleece/baselayer etc underneath depending on the weather.  I have an ME Switch jacket/fleece hybrid which is good in a lot of conditions but not waterproof.  Some people swear by Paramo but I've never used their stuff.

  Go with a good company like Patagonia, Rab, Mountain Equipment, etc. depending on how you plan to use it. Plenty of companies that make great gear and stand behind the product if/when it fails. Arcteryx used to be great about warranty/repair but that’s gone. They wouldn’t repair a taped seam on my jacket because allegedly the fabric was delaminating elsewhere — I still haven’t found where this ‘delamination’ is happening.

  Best women’s parka without down insulation

  Here’s part of the problem: BIFL and synthetic insulation don’t mix. The warmest synthetic insulation is made of polyester fibers, which, over time, when exposed to repeated compression - stuffed into your pack, body weight against your car seat (wearing while driving, etc.), will collapse and deadened the insulation. The less an insulation lofts, the less warm “dead air” it traps = diminished thermal efficiency. I realize you don’t want down, but down is much, much more resilient to collapse from compression cycles, while offering a higher warmth-to-weight ratio. If synthetic is a must, options with PrimaLoft or Apex polyester insulations will be the warmest for a given fill weight.   Mountain Equipment (another UK brand) do some superb outdoor clothing and have a [limited lifetime warranty](https://www.mountain-equipment.com/pages/our-guarantee) as well. Personally, I've never needed to use it, because none of their kit that I own has yet to fail!
