Which Carry On is the Best?
Former flight attendant, I wrote a post on this: https://www.reddit.com/r/BuyItForLife/comments/1bh285o/nanuk_935_best_carry_on_luggage/ To all the folks saying TravelPro, the reason flight crews use that brand is because the airline will provide it for free to crew. It's just mediocre luggage, honestly. I've broken probably 15+ TravelPros in my career.

Which Carry On is the Best?
Pelican style cases are 10x the durability of Briggs and Riley and half the price. My Nanuk case has been put through hell and back (hundreds of flights a year, being thrown too many times to count in the back of a pickup truck driving off road for hundreds of miles, flying in a helicopter basket in a downpour) and it's still perfect. Completely waterproof, secure enough you can't just open it with a pen and a warranty where they sent me a brand new case no questions asked within a couple hours of me making a claim. Can't beat it.

Looking for a waterproof storage container small enough to fit in a backpack that can hold things like USB batteries, pencils, etc. Waterproof but can also take a beating.
I hear Nanuk cases are better (value for money) than Pelican.

BIFL Metal Carry-on Luggage?
Haliburton, Nanuk, and Pelican if you want hard sided cases. Just remember that they tend to weigh more than their cloth counterparts. They also have a finite storage space and do not expand. If you’re willing to forgo the metallic/slab-sided bags, I would look at Patagonia, Ortlieb, and other high-end outdoor companies. While their bags are not necessarily targeted toward airplanes, their PVC/vinyl alternative products are extremely durable and meant to take abuse. You get what you pay for when purchasing performance-oriented storage for travel.
