This is like asking if there are Buyitforlife tires. If it’s shoes you will be walking all day with they won’t last for lifetime. Maybe some brands/models will last longer than others. Personally I find the Reebok club c 85 to be a good reliable shoe. Maybe certain models of new balance.

Trade the insoles out every 2 years and swap shoes weekly . And the most important thing ! Air your shoes out keep them dry and wash your feet.

I weight 285 my soles are fine, change your damn insole right there in the store with a fitting by fleet feet. Change them every 2 years . They last that long , if you wash your feet once in a while.

My addiction walkers by brooks are 3 years almost 4. You don't keep the insoles that come in these shoes . You put fleet feet insoles in them. . A lot of these people don't wash their feet, cause they can't see them. If you're tearing up these shoes that fast , you need to change your habits and learn to take care of shit. You’re not doing anything wrong wearing one pair almost every day will kill pretty much any sneaker, especially flat ones like Chucks, Vans, or Sambas. They look great but they’re not built to be daily beaters. If you want stuff that actually holds up *and* still looks good, these are easily the top picks in 2025: **Adidas Samba (in rotation, not daily), Adidas Ozeweego, New Balance 9060, Nike Zoom Vomero 5, and ASICS Gel-1130**. All of those have way better cushioning, heel structure, and outsole durability than vulcanized shoes. Biggest upgrade though? Rotate 2–3 pairs. One flat classic, one cushioned runner-style shoe, one casual beater. Even “durable” sneakers fall apart fast if they’re worn every day.

There’s no one right answer and running shoes are wear items. Your foot, your stride, your running surface, and your stride all come into play. If you’re not overly experienced, your stride may change as you put in the miles and both get faster and find your stride. How you wear pairs out can be as informative as any running analysis. You basically run on a treadmill for a minute or two and stand on a foot pressure plate. I’m a heavier guy for a runner and I strike on the upper midfoot. My leg development favors my dominant side (left). Over time I wear the balls of my shoes down, especially the left, and it induces pronation. Something you don’t see in a gait analysis because I’m pretty balanced in new shoes and barefoot. I’m a heavier guy for a distance runner (ran a marathon at ~195) so I go with a more supportive shoe (usually NB fresh foam in a wide size) because I can do speed work in a supportive shoe but not distance work in a thin speed shoe and I’m not serious enough to have a rotation. Plus, I’ll take speed work being less effective and keeping my joints in better shape. If you’re really committing to a running routine, buy good shoes. You don’t need $200+ shoes with carbon fiber plates, but you should probably be in the $80-150 range of shoes that aren’t budget-tier, but aren’t competitive racer shoes. It’s going to take time and money and be a journey to figure this out, but such is the case with high-use wear items. Good luck.

It's really about what feels good on your feet and what fits your running style (e.g. if you heel strike, certain shoes won't work for you) and foot shape (some shoes have narrow toe boxes).

I went through this exact same struggle for years. High instep plus wide forefoot is brutal for finding anything that fits right. After trying everything from Allen Edmonds to custom orthotics, I finally bit the bullet and got fitted through IAMBIC's app - they do custom dress shoes based on 3D foot scans. Complete difference from anything off the shelf. For sneakers though, New Balance 990v5 in wide has been solid, and for boots check out Nicks or White's - they do custom lasts if you need it. The break-in period is rough but once they're broken in they last forever.

You need to get a footbed insert, look at Superfeet, to replace the standard insole in any shoe you buy. Try and size them by your heel size - there should be guides online. I think hiking/trail shoes are a good option as they typically have higher density foam and are more durable than typical lightweight running shoes etc. New Balance have a good selection of wide options, or look into brands like Meindl, Scarpa, La Sportiva for really high quality.

Standing for 10 hours with bunions is brutal, I dealt with similar foot pain for years before discovering IAMBIC (custom dress shoes made from foot scans). For your situation though, you'll want to focus on brands that specifically design for wider fits and all-day comfort. New Balance has some excellent work shoes in their Fresh Foam line that come in multiple width options, and they're built to handle long shifts. Hoka also makes incredibly cushioned shoes that tend to run roomier in the toe box which helps with bunion pressure. Brooks and ASICS both offer wide width options in their walking/work shoe lines too. The key is finding something with a deep toe box and good arch support since you'll be on concrete all day. Just make sure whatever you get has removable insoles so you can add custom orthotics if needed down the road.

You’re getting a lot of Hoka suggestions, which is fair, but if you don’t like how squishy/bouncy Hokas are, then look at New Balance. I have a pair of Made in USA 990s that I’ve worn daily for a year and a half now, and the only real wear and tear on them I can tell is a little bit of balding starting on the rubber outsole. They have plenty of life left though. Super comfy and durable, and they come in any width imaginable to get the right fit.

PSW (similar to CNA in the US) and I work 16hr shifts regularly. These are 25k step shifts. And I'm a little on the chunky side 😉 Definitely go to a podiatrist to get a diagnosis or eliminate potential problems. Here in Ontario Canada a podiatrist is under $100 for the initial visit. It could just be your weight but it also might not be. It would make sense to rule out some problems before dumping money on a good pair of shoes that might not be right for you if you were given a diagnosis. Another suggestion is to wear compression socks, the lightest compression is a great place to start and you can buy them fairly affordable ($20-$30pr) on Amazon. The majority of my healthcare peers swear by them - they were life changing for me. Once you get into shoes, most brands have different cushion levels but you'll probably want something like New Balance 1080s or the Asics gel Kayano. I wear the Asics and I don't find them all that slip resistant when I'm in the kitchen. My mom worked at McDonald's when I was a kid and I remember the floors being especially greasy so keep that in mind when you're buying shoes too.

Prolonging the life of shoe soles
I don't have any advice for prolonging the life of shoes, but I've been pretty blown away by my everyday tennis shoes I wear. I have all black new balance is 608 industrial shoes, basically for hospital workers and restaurant workers. I wear out soles quickly on my hiking shoes, but these soles just do not wear out, even after a couple years of everyday use. Granted part of the reason is that it's a somewhat flat non-slip sole, so all of the wear is distributed over the entire bottom surface. A hiking shoes with high points everywhere that are going to quickly get ground down because they're the only part of the shoe on the ground when you're on flat ground. If you're going to be walking on concrete a lot, wear something with a much flatter sole and it will last a lot longer.

I used to get about 350-400km to a pair of New Balance running shoes, I went and got orthotics and those same running shoes would move to 500-550km. They helped correct my foot strike which means I wasn't wearing out the inside edge of my sole faster than the rest of the show. A proper insole can go a long way in extending the life of a shoe

I've got a New Balance t shirt that I've had in regular rotation for four years, the little logo on the chest started to flake off a few weeks ago but otherwise it's in almost perfect condition. The shoes have always been pretty good in my experience too.

Not Skechers. I had a good pair of Skechers I loved so decided to buy more of the exact same model. I purchased TWO pairs of them in December. By February the sole in the first pair was falling apart with only a 30 minute walk each day. By April the second pair was done. They must have changed the materials in the shoe despite keeping the model number the same. I purchased some New Balance to replace the Skechers and they're still going fine.

I've had some of the cheaper new balance wear out on me relatively quickly but still greater quality than cheap nikes. I've also had a pair of NBs last almost 5 years wearing them basically every day. So I'd say it's not fair to call them as shit as nike. The cheapest models are not so good, but the more expensive ones last a surprisingly long time.

What's everyone's go-to sneaker?
New balance 990s are the way. 2 weeks in Europe putting in 10+ miles each day and they were so unbelievably comfortable that over a year later they’re still my daily drivers. I plan to get a new pair right before the 2 year mark for a 2 week Japan trip, but I’ll probably keep the old pair as beaters for yard work, festivals, etc.

I had some Skechers, they were good. So I ordered two more pairs of EXACTLY the same model. The new pairs arrived. The first lasted 3 months with just a daily walk. The second pair also lasted only 3 months. So they must have changed what they were made of. I switched to New Balance and I've walked 6 months with barely any wear. I'm thinking I was some New Balance or HOKA ones with the thicker cloud-like soles though.

If for fashion and comfort, Hoka or Made in USA/UK New Balances are built well, and the Hoka's in particular are extremely comfortable. ON's are also very comfortable, but I've not worn mine enough to test its lifespan, and they only have a few good looking models. However the more 'comfortable' a shoe is, the more softer and therefore quicker wearing the materials are likely to be. So they won't be a 'BIFL' in that respect. You can get sneaker shoes with higher end materials and build, like with Visvim, but I think that's for a totally different category of buyer. There's also a company called Neutra that are sneakers handmade in France.

New Balance 990v6 is the best sneaker I have ever had. Made in USA, and one pair lasts me 16-18mo of everyday wear. I can be relatively confident that they'll be available for a long time, and they have different colors come out all the time that don't look like the classic "New Balance dad shoe." Also, available in a huge range of sizes, where the majority of shoes don't even have wide sizes.

I had some everlast training shoes that lasted like 20 years. Put them thru hell hiking all over until i wore the treads out completely. Unfortunately they dont make shoes anymore. Had a pair of new balance shoes that also lasted thru like 8 years of heavy use. Other than that everything ive had no luck lol. Nikes are absolute garbage every pair of nikes ive hd start falling apart after a week. My brooks have also held up terribly

Best advice is to wear the right shoe for the task at hand (at foot?) If you’re doing training outside there’s (road/trail running) there’s not much to be done for sneakers wearing out, but if you’re going to the gym or just wearing them around town, I like to think of my shoes as “specialists” - Gym shoes live in the gym bag. I don’t wear them to the gym or home. - Sturdy boots that can be resoled are for work (I work a physical job so that’s just me) - then I have a pair of new balance trail running sneakers that I wear for errands/light hikes/everyday I’m not advocating for over consumption, but if you any tool to do a task it’s not designed for it’s going to wear out faster. Shoes are tools. Also, clean and maintain your shoes: after the rain, in the winter if the roads are salty, after a hike. Lastly, it’s the foam! Modern trainers are WAY more supportive, but they have a thin layer of runner and the rest of the shoe is all foam. Look for something with a thicker rubber layer if you’re going to be using them in asphalt/gravel/trails

I love my Birkenstocks, but have now jumped ship permanently (once I wear out my current pair, I won’t buy Birkenstocks anymore) to Bedrocks since they can be resoled and so comfortable. Definitely give ASICS a look as they make amazing running shoes. New Balance only 800s and 900s models.

+1 for Darn Tough. For work, I walk around 8k-10k steps daily in trainers, and only had one pair had a hole. Warranty claim isn’t an issue. Going on 5+ years so far. However I do trim my toe nails often, wash them by putting them in a laundry bag, And very low dryer heat cycle. I think people should be using laundry bags more, since I feel and experience that my clothes last much longer. Separate bags for shirts, underwear, socks, etc. and don’t put way too much in each bag. About a week worths is good for my usage. In addition, I found that I was wearing improper fitting shoes and switched to wide feet sizing shoes. Went from Nike and Adidas, to New Balance wide/x-wide, Hoka, On Cloudtilt

Rather than looking at running shoes, try looking at hiking/trail running shows- these will typically have a higher density/sturdier sole because they are designed to move over rough terrain for long distances. This will significantly increase the longevity of the shoe compared to running shoes which typically have lighter, lower density soles and are really not suited to prolonged use by heavier individuals. These hiling/trail running shoes will also typically have wider options available, some brands to look out for; Garmont, Scarpa, New Balance, La Sportiva, Merrell, Danner, Salomon. Avoid On Cloud like the fucking plague, they are terrible shoes. Also, combine the shoes with a good foot bed, like Superfeet, which will offer much better support and help regulate posture and foot alignment, increasing overall comfort and longevity of the shoe.

I have wide feet and high arches. I wear New Balance 880 v15 (wide) with Currex Run Pro inserts . I wear these for running/walking, but that combo would also work for standing. The best wide fit shoes imo are New Balance, Brooks, ASICS, Hoka and Karhu. You should really try a bunch on because fit varies so much. I go to a place called Fleet Feet and they do a scan of your feet and use that as a starting point. I highly suggest doing this. Just google "running shoe store" and I'm sure you can find a similar shop in your area.

I have a larger/wider foot (13 2E) and I love my New Balance 1080’s. So much more cushion than my 990’s. For me, Clouds lose their support very quickly. I haven’t worn Hoka’s. But I really suggest the 1080’s for a lightweight, all day comfort shoe for someone with a wider foot. I also appreciate the understated gray color available.

Hey! Yeah, sneakers wearing out fast is annoying. Your Reeboks lasting 3-4 years is solid! I’d stick with Reebok’s Club C 85 Vintage comfy leather, good sole, around $75-$90, lasts well. New Balance 574s are another good one suede/mesh, comfy cushioning, $80-$90, holds up 2-3 years. Or try Sketchers Go Walks light, flexible, under $60, great for daily use. All fit your $100 budget and should feel good everywhere. What do you think?

Avoid waterproof shoes, you get water inside and you will hate it. I’m speaking from experience. If you have a favorite running shoe, get the trail version of it. Example is I love NB 1080s and the trail version is the hierro. Hope this helps.

Long time shoes for flat feet
See if their GP or an Orthopäde would be willing to prescribe insoles (orthopädische Einlagen). Then take the Rezept to a Sanitätshaus to have them custom-made. If you're looking for brands... Winter is tricky, because shoes with "zero drop" work best and boots usually have a heel. For sneakers, New Balance (e.g. 574) are a little wider than normal and incredibly comfortable and lightweight. Birkenstocks quality has decreased in recent years and they're overpriced imo, but I highly recommend them nevertheless! I think all of their shoes have the typical Birkenstock insole which offers a lot of support. GREAT for sandals, since you can't wear your orthopedic insoles in those ;) Otherwise a lot of the "öko" brands are said to be wider than normal: Bär/Baer, Think!,... All the best!

I build prosthetics and am on my feet 8 hours a day. I have seen and talked to others about their shoes, because I see their shoes all the time. A one legged 75 year old man swore up and down that New Balance 608's were the best shoes. His words "I have one foot left, you damn well know I want it to be comfortable.". I took his words to heart and got a pair... I've now been wearing the same style for ten years. A few years ago I rolled my ankle and it collapsed my arch, I now also wear inserts in my 608's, the "PowerStep ProTech Classic Orthotic Insoles" off Amazon. Shoes are about $60 and insoles are $75, but it's a great combination and recommend it to anyone who asks

Former warehouse worker here. Worked 8-10 hour shifts similarly to you. The most important thing is finding shoes that fit your feet properly. More premium shoe stores are going to be able to tell you what type of feet you have in terms of width and arch. No matter how nice the shoes you buy are, they won’t properly support your feet if they’re too narrow or have too high/low of an arch for your foot shape. From there, New Balance (in general) or Adidas (“boost”lines) both make shoes that are comfortable sneakers yet also provide adequate support for working on your feet all day.

Get two(or more) pairs of shoes and alternate so they get a chance to wear out Adidas superstar was my go to when on my feet a lot. The rubber toe can take some wear. Generally the soles are long lasting and you can get these discounted from a lot of places. New balance 574 are another solid option. Suede breathes better than synthetics.

I went to a shoe store, New Balance (owner donated big to the current US president so I returned the shoes), and they said they will put duct tape in the wear areas for me. I've done that with my newest pair of shoes, but it's too early to tell how they will hold up. You can search for "shoe heel repair patch" and it will give a bunch of options, I've used some of those from AliExpress and they held up well, they are widely available online.

Apologies, its not that clear on what the issue is... is it arch support or you just need a wide shoe? If both, I'd recommend NB 990 in one of the wide sizes for a firmer shoe, or the 1080 in the of the wide sizes for a bit more plush.

Avoid Shoes for Crews and Crocs if you’re on your feet for long periods. I recommend New Balance 626v2 and a pair of Powerstep Pinnacle Maxx inserts. Or Superfeet Copper DMP. If you want BIFL, save up and get a pair of custom orthotics made. A good pair will last >10 years.

Yeah I'm from Europe and you can absolutely walk around in sneakers, everyone does. You will be totally fine with a pair of asics gel or new balance or so. I think bags and hats and clothes with colourful pattern will more likely reveal that you are a tourist. I honestly can't say what it is but you just know who is a tourist and who isn't. Might as well embrace it!

On our last trip to Germany, my fiancee and I had two pairs each: a matching set of New Balance 990v6 and a “dressier” white/brown shoe (like an OnCloud Roger or Cole Haan Zerogrand) for the days we walk a bit less. Highly recommended, this will be our go to for travel from now on.

New Balance 990vX, 993, and 574s along with Reebok Club Cs are all pretty in-style at the moment. They’re tennis shoes, but you aren’t going to look like you’re about to go on a jog at any moment. New Balance shoes are comfortable and very durable. All that being said, you might be underestimating how often Europeans wear tennis shoes.

Recently wandered around London for a couple of days in a new pair of New Balance trainers. I usually wear Peter Storm hiking trainers. The new ones were very nice and comfy until they rubbed the back of my ankle raw. My own fault for not breaking them in before spending two days walking in them nonstop. Nobody assumed I was from anywhere because nobody in London gives a fuck about someone else's shoes, or about where in the world they're from. You're overthinking it, just wear something comfortable. You will be walking a lot more than I think some Americans are used to. Nobody will be looking at your shoes, and if they happen to glance in their direction by accident, they're not going to think "Those shoes! That must be an American!", they're going to keep thinking about whatever self-absorbed shit they were already thinking. Paris is just Paris, can't help you there. The stereotype is that people from there are snobs regardless of what you wear, say, eat, drink, do, think, watch on tv, read. Even the French hate people from Paris. It's highly likely that they also will not give a shit about hour shoes, though. Other tourists, well, see point 1 about people in London. **TL;DR:** I recommend Peter Storm hiking trainers or New Balance trainers. It's all I own.

You’re gonna look like Americans 😅😂 just try not to look like Americans for the bad reasons 😅 If you really want to avoid the American look — go for something similar to business casual, smart casual. Those are rather universal for the western world. Unless you have some other cool style to go for. Don’t go for cargo pants, no ball caps, printed tees only if you’re younger, no logos on clothes, Just avoid the generic brooks etc white or off-white trainers. The ones old people wear. New Balance, Ecco, adidas street style, etc are good choices, depending on your age and overall style. And they’ll be comfortable for walking. Wearing trainers, or maybe sports style shoes is perfectly fine here, with jeans, etc. Just the street style ones, and the style depends on age (for example air Jordan’s are for younger people). Although trainers will look sort of weird if your clothes are very clean and pedantic.

I think any good quality leather shoe will do it. I see a lot of American classics in Europe, like Redwing etc. Blundstones work too. They will last forever. Of course classic trainers like NB are good. People wear running shoes too. No crocs 😅😂

Yeah, generally the higher the number the longer they are going to last. My NB 974's are 10 years old and holding strong, though I only wear them on weekends, hiking, or in the snow.

No the more you walk or run in a single pair, the less they will keep. NB and Hoka can last 6-8 months with a lot of usage as an all day shoe but not all weather. Though I think Hoka now has a shoe that is like a croc and is better for rain/water. Swapping through the day can dramatically extend life and make your feet feel better. And not wearing the wrong shoe depending on what your doing obviously helps. Nike, Adidas, Jordan, Reebok, Converse, Vans, Timberlands, whatever you see as a trend or style shoe is likely shit. Seen soles come off more shoes than I can count. They are made for Instagram or your storage shelf.

As a 2:56 marathoner I personally would never buy On. They look like they might last me a week of training if that. New Balance is for sure the better shoe here. Like some have said the 1080 is a good shoe. I haven’t worn them since they look too clunky for me but they’ve improved their appearances.

Tennis shoes/sneakers/streetwear, in my opinion, are not meant to last very long. They are either fashion items, which go out of fashion, or sport tools, made to last one or two sports seasons. This is especially true for running shoes. I think people will say buy tennis shoes that are sewn instead of glued, and I usually buy “trail running” shoes because the treads last longer, but even with that, I only get about two years from them wearing them regularly. If you want a soft, flexible sole, the trade off is durability. I have street basketball high tops from New Balance that lasted a long time, but I don’t think they make heavy basketball shoes like that anymore. That said, maybe there are companies that make shoes that last a long time.

Definitely New Balance over On Cloud. Another shoe to consider would be Brooks. A lot of nurses wear the Brooks Ghosts and Adrenalines because they hold up and are comfortable for lots of walking during long shifts. I do a lot of long distance running (so lots of miles and wear on my shoes), and the Brooks pairs have held up better than some of my other shoes.

Shoes aren't bifl or even buy it for a long time. The foam compresses and shoes comfortable for walking have very thin rubber grips on the bottom (to maximize the foam for a comfy ride). For long walks in the park regularly, expect to replace the shoes at least every 2 years, possibly every 1 year. Also, if it's a daily shoe, you may want to consider two pairs - one good running/walking shoe and one good casual everyday. Because of the amount of foam in running/walking shoes, they wear a lot faster. A good sneaker would be better for your running errands and will allow your expensive running/walking shoes to last a lot longer. I would recommend New Balance over Cloud on. Also look at Brooks, Asics, and Hoka. If you can go to a shoe store that does fittings you can usually explain to them what your intent for the shoes are and they are usually good with suggesting the best shoe for your use case.

I have the New Balance 1080v13, they are the most comfortable running/ walking/ daily shoes I have ever worn. I liked them so much I have started wearing sports shoes with casual wear as well, for mall/grocery trips Recently got a second pair of New Balance More v5 (they have more cushioning compared to 1080). I tried the Nimbus Gel 26 and On Cloud shoes when I bought these and I can confirm that New Balance shoes are more plush and comfortable. On Cloud is a hyped brand these days that is trending on account of their ‘funky’ and ‘hip’ designs, they aren’t more comfortable.

I have a pair of the new balance 990s version six, and a pair of the 1080s, and those two shoes alone are some of the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever had on my feet. On cloud shoes are unique but not on the level of new balance. Only one other shoe would I recommend for all day everyday, ridiculously comfy shoes and that’s the asics gel nyc.
