  Why are good leather jackets either $100 or $1,500? What's the real difference?

  No. Good quality boots will support you better than sneakers. My husband has spine injuries and lot of arthritis in his spine. If he needs to be on his feet, he needs his Nick’s boots.

  Nick’s Palouse and Chisos seem to be the consensus among the boot crowd that know. Both of those brands (I can speak for Nicks personally) take BIFL to another level I think most people haven’t considered.. you pay for it, but it’s there.

  New buy it for life shoes or hiking shoes

  Cemented shoes are only good for a couple years. For $65 with your discount, just keep buying them if you like them and the price is your deal-breaker. If you want something that will literally last decades and decades (with resoles and rebuilds) look at PNW bootmakers. White’s, Nick’s, and pretty much any other single name apostrophes will make you something that will be far better in the long run, but you will pay $500-$800 dollars.

  What are the best BIFL quality products that are being made today?

  Wera screwdrivers, Klein pliers, estwing hammers, fiskars axes. Darn Tough and Grip6 socks. Grip6 belts too. Red Wing, White's, or Nick's boots depending on your style. Lots more, so what are you interested in?

  My belt got rubbed off after a short backpacking trip. What belt do you have that lasts?

  Filson or Nick’s for me have been excellent. I have a Hank’s and a Relentless Tactical for carry and those are both excellent as well but a bit much without the gun.

  Best Workwear Brand?

  Darn Tough socks. Red Wing, Nick’s and Jim Green boots. I still think Carhartt makes decent coats, but I know not everyone agrees with that.

  Good leather boots reccomendations?

  If you want a pair of boots that are built for life, it’s tough to look much further that the Pacific Northwest boot-makers. Nick’s, White’s, Frank’s, and JK all make some seriously tough boots that will last for decades with proper care. But they are also not cheap. So you get what you pay for. If PNW boots are too pricey for you, consider Red Wing or Jim Green. Both are well made. I think of Jim Green as PNW light. The leathers aren’t the same but still well made for a fair price, and many are double lasted. And a lot of first responders seem to like Redbacks if you’re okay with a slip on Chelsea style. I didn’t think I would ever like a Chelsea boot. But I now own 3 pairs because they’re just so comfortable. Waterproof can be a quirky thing. Most waterproof boots have a waterproof liner. Those make your feet sweat and stink. And once you get a hole in them, and you eventually will, all waterproofing is out the window. In fact it’s worse because any water that gets in at that point is trapped and makes a nice swamp in your boot. I would rather have a double lasted boot, leather outside and leather lined. And treated with a good waterproof conditioner like Obenauf’s Heavy Duty LP or Huberd’s Shoe Grease.

  I have a pair of Nick’s handmade boots for hiking. The midsole is leather and the outsole is rubber (another natural material). Do you have no idea how quality boots are made?

  Stitchdown Vibergs and Nick's are very comparable in terms of materials and construction. Vibergs are rebuildable, but they no longer rebuild boots in-house. Bang for buck, Nick's is better, in my opinion. I wore Vibergs yesterday, and I'm wearing Nick's today. I like both companies, but Viberg is getting a little too pricey.

  Considering value of investment over time, you’ll probably come out ahead picking up a solid pair from any of the PNW boot makers. Nick’s, Frank’s, White’s, Wesco, etc.

  Best shoes for walking/standing all day?

  Depends a lot on what you're doing. In general I'd recommend a wedge sole and avoid things that are waterproof. Water resistant will be much more comfortable and keep the vast majority of people perfectly dry. Thorogood, Keen, Red Wing, Danner and Carolina are good choices. Nick's and White's are great choices. For casual/dress boots I'd check out Thursday Boot Company, Red Wing Iron Rangers, and Grant Stone.

  If you're willing to pay top dollar, Nick's, Whites, Frank's, Wesco, and other PNW bootmakers make top-tier, custom, handmade boots. r/pnwbootmakers If you don't want to pay that much, Red Wing makes good boots in the $300 range depending on what you want.

  Best all day/everyday BIFL boots narrowed down between these two

  Definitely no where close to buy it for life. You'll be lucky to get more than a year out of them. There is no such thing as a buyer for life boot. The closest thing you'll ever find are going to be Pacific Northwest foods like Nick's whites Wesco JK, Frank's. Those are in the $4-800 range. Then there's the likes of viberg, John lofgren, and the Japanese that get in the 2k range

  Best hiking boots for men - Suggestions needed.

  If you're looking for true BIFL, think resolable high-quality leather construction, such as White's or Nick's. That's what wildland firefighters wear, for example, because they can take a tremendous amount of punishment. For less expensive versions of the same philosophy, take a look at Jim Green. If you're looking for durable and good for hiking, but not resolable, take a look at Salewa hiking shoes. The last pair I had were well-constructed and used a hard rubber sole that lasts a lot longer than the soft rubber used in a lot of trail running shoes. If you're looking for the best hiking experience and aren't actually worried about BIFL, check out Altra Lone Peaks. No trail runners are BIFL since they use foams and rubbers that degrade pretty quickly, but there's a reason they're popular with through hikers. They're the most comfortable and nimble.

  Schott Perfecto leather jacket This thing could stop a fucking bullet. I call it “pre-vintage” because I bought it brand new but it’ll get passed on to my grandkids. They have other models too but the Perfecto is *the* biker jacket, worn by The Ramones, James Dean, Marlon Brando etc. Also a pair of PNW leather boots, White’s, Nick’s, Wesco’s Frank’s, etc. These are handmade for loggers and woodland firefighter and have been around for generations, they will last forever if you take care of them. /r/pnwbootmakers

  Nick's has multiple options that are similar to this style, like their Stationmaster. Nick's makes high-quality, custom handmade boots. Their Stationmaster, for example, costs $700, as is typical with other PNW boomakers at this level (White's, Wesco, etc.).   Propper Boots, are they a BIFL?

  *sigh* we get similar posts every day. Check out r/PNWbootmakers or r/goodyearwelt, they have pinned posts about most shoemakers in all price points. Nick’s, JK’s, Frank’s, Truman, Wesco, White’s, etc., for US-based bootmakers. So many more for UK-based, Australia-based, Indonesia-based, Japan-based, etc. It’s a good rabbit hole to jump into.

  What's your most comfortable and durable piece of clothing?

  My White's/Nick's boots. Many, many hours I've spent standing in them and many, many miles have been hiked in them.
