The best vacuum money can buy?
Miele or Nilfisk. Given the reduction in EU domestic hoovers power rating, you would probably be better off with commercial. We have a pre EU change Nilfisk, and a Nilfisk Wet Dry/'shop vac' as well.

They don't make them like this anymore
I live in Copenhagen (where Nilfisk is headquartered) and there are still plenty of experienced vacuum service shops around. My 1989 Nilfisk is running like new, and vacuuming better than most newer vacuums i have tried.

They don't make them like this anymore
Nilfisk still makes very high-end vacuum cleaners, usually for hospitals or clean rooms where you have extremely low PPM dust requirements. They are indeed awesome machines, though I started having issues with the self-cleaning mechanism on my Alto after about a decade.

Also it is vacuum, it is designed for getting wear and tear. And OP is second owner, so it is impressive for a vacuum to go to a second owner. It is refreshing to see a workshop vacuum between I worn these boots for 15 of years, with a picture of worn out boots, or boots in dire need of a cobbler, because they have 2mm of the middle sole left and Best BIFL castiron pans/pots posts. I do have a funny story about Nilfisk: In late 90's-early 2000's Nilfisk got a lot of flack in Denmark for certain modelse vacuum cleaners produced in 60's, had metal ring corrode over time, so the main body simply collapses and wasn't repairable as they stopped production long ago. Crazier was it was't planned obsolence or a design flaw overlooked by engineers. it was just how 2 parts was welted together that after 40+ years, simply corroded away.

I have a larger Nilfisk canister model as well as one of their rug cleaners. I got them from a B2B wholesaler ten years ago when I owned a business. They make the retail options look like toys in comparison with regard to build quality and performance. Keep it forever.

I’ve been preaching nilfisk since since I found this sub. Forget Miele, this is the goat of vacuum cleaners

You’re missing the point. Nilfisk vacuums are very well made and can last a lifetime. It fits perfectly in this sub. I have a Nilfisk vacuum I picked out of the trash 30 years ago and it still looks and works like new.
