  Why do charging cables die so easily?

  If you use USB-C, get a nintendo switch charger. The only con is the plug is thick. But the cable is indestructible and it has never failed me and charges my S23 (which receives charge stupidly slow) super fast.

  Won Employee of the month, what to buy?

  First of all, thank you to everyone for the gift ideas. I've actually purchased a few items on my own. So I've finally made a decision on my gift.The gift I got was a Nintendo Switch 2 bundle pack. The reason for it is that I have a nephew that loves to play his, and now when he comes over we can all play with him. I can't wait to play Mario Kart with him when he comes over again.

  My husband and I do quite a bit of travel, and out favorite gifts to each other has just been money towards one of those trips. But I can tell you the tech things I got for him (but he actually picked them out, since he's so peculiar about what he selects. So I just tell him what I want to give him, and he does the research. Or sometimes I knew exactly what he wanted, because there were not options to choose from. Gifts have been: - The most recent Zelda game - Nintendo Switch 2 (he already had a Switch 1, but knew he would sell it if he would get the 2) - No Man's Sky (video game) - mini computer (he picked this out) - XReal One Pro glasses (he picked these out) Happy shopping!

  What technology do you have from when you were a kid that not only lasted, but still does the job well?

  **My old Nintendo DS.** That thing still turns on, the hinge hasn’t cracked, and it plays games perfectly. The battery even holds a charge better than some modern devices. Also, my parents still use a **Sony stereo system from the early 2000s** — CD, cassette, and radio — and it sounds *amazing*. Built like a tank, no Bluetooth or smart features needed. It’s wild how some older tech, built for durability instead of planned obsolescence, just keeps going decades later.

  What is the equivalent of "Apple removed 3.5mm jack" of your favorite products ?

  This is one of the biggest reasons I got away from console gaming and started gaming on PC (Steam). I am just getting back into it with the Switch 2 but mostly due to my kids getting to gaming age and Nintendo being the most family friendly and exclusive IPs.

  Earlier this year I sold my Game Boy Pocket and Game Boy Camera on eBay, and they both worked perfectly. In fact, most of the toys I had from that era still worked perfectly when I listed them on eBay.

  Brands That Used to Be BIFL — But Aren't Anymore?

  Nintendo made durable products, at least in the 6th generation. I remember some Crush soda got spilled on my first Gamecube and I thought that ruined it. It turns out that it was actually a MadCatz controller I had that would cut the AV feed if you moved it a certain way. I can't count how many times both of mine fell off a ledge and still continued to work. X-Play even had a console durability test where an Xbox, PS2 and Gamecube were dropped from a decent height, hit with a sledgehammer and had weights dropped on them, and only the Gamecube booted after all of that. My first party Gamecube controllers from 2003-04 still work fine and I've never had a problem with them. I've never had to take them apart for maintenance either, and they're the controllers that came bundled with the consoles I have. I've never bought a Switch, but I have friends who are lucky if their Joycons last for the better part of a year.

  Ever Bought Something That Quietly Changed You?

  I bought a used N-64 (which still works) for my child who was having issues learning how to read. There was so much reading in Zelda Ocarina of Time, he had to learn how to read plus store all of those maps in his head and problem solve, etc. He is in Graduate school now, changed our lives.

  I bought a Nintendo switch for my son and he picked out just dance I played a song with him and became instantly hooked. Now I have all versions and dance everyday. It’s helped me become more active and boosts my mood. I always think about if he wouldn’t have picked that game I would have continued my life without dancing.

  Best usb-c charging cable on the market is the one that comes with the Nintendo Switch. Why? Because it's indestructible. Bought the oled switch on release in 2021 for my then 4 year old. The abuse this cable has endured is truly incredible. This thing has travelled around the world, stuffed in every small pocket, been used as a mace, continually slept on, twirled around fingers, tied in knots, submerged, charges every other device he (and we) own....and on and on and on... It is the most reliable piece of tech in the our possession. I mean, the switch itself is pretty solid but definitely doesn't encounter the same level of abuse, and the joy-cons are a bit wonky at this stage, but the charger should win a prize.

  What did you buy not realizing you bought it for life?

  Apparently my Super Nintendo I got (my parents bought) in 1994. Still have that, and the N64 I got in 1998. They still look and function like new!
