  osprey from your list makes quality stuff - they're reliable if you want smth that works for both travel and outdoor use. timbuk2 is worth looking at if you want smth more urban/casual, tho the organization isn't quite as dialed in as some other options. for nomatic, [this one](https://d3oc4tmn8qmbnq.cloudfront.net/?q=GMKAO1784) might work - it's the 20l expandable version. should handle carry-on no problem. main thing tho - don't go bigger than you acc need. if you've got a 13" laptop, get a bag sized for that instead of going oversized 'just in case.' makes a real diff in comfort and weight.

  Everyday laptop backpack

  The zip for the laptop compartment is quite concealed and is inside the backpack straps, so when you are wearing it it's impossible to access. When you take it off, you can then get your laptop out without messing round inside the main compartment. I think it's a really good option personally.

  Men's backpack for work and travel

  As someone who went down the rabbit hole researching backpacks: don’t drop hundreds on one. You can get equal or better form and function from plenty of cheaper options. look for thicker fabric (ballistic nylon or canvas) and sturdy zippers so it doesn’t wear out fast. Bonus points if it’s water-resistant - that way it’ll handle rain, spills whatever, whether he’s commuting or traveling. I also like tom bihn backpacks, but honestly they’re way too pricey.

  I’ve used Osprey and The North Face over the years. Both held up really well. But on my recent business trip, I brought the Nomatic and honestly I was pretty impressed. It kept all my stuff super organized, especially the tech and work gear. Didn’t expect to like it that much but it kind of became my go-to.
