Something you didn’t expect to be BIFL but outlasted your expectations?
My NordicTrack treadmill. I’m an ultrarunner and I use it a ton, it has to have thousands of miles on it now. I paid $1250 for it over 10 years ago, moved with it 4 times, never did any maintenance, and it’s still going strong!

If you’re just starting.. buy used. So many people want to work out at home and just can’t stick to it, or were gifted it. We have a nice Nordic track treadmill that has seen lots of use (got it with the purchase of the home lol along with a rower) and I have a recumbent bike top of the line schwinn… got it for like 75. It’s an older year but sees use daily and works like a charm. Prior owner used it quite a bit too per the mileage meter.

$300 means you should focus on used gear. Easy to do lately since many went hard during covid and many also didnt follow through. If doing a rowing machine, look for a used WaterRower. Low tech, few moving parts, as bifl as exercise equipment gets. My experiemce (elliptical, bike, treadmill and rower)... Is that exercise equipment is so enshittified that all brands are wack, none are recommendable. Engineered obsolesence everywhere.... The whole industry relies on turnover, not on selling quality at premium price. I found this out when i bought some pretty unused commercial equipment (fleet units from large condo/apt budings) that was 2-3 years old. I figured hey it is built to be used like 15x per day, so if i splurge i will use 1-2x per day and it will last! Nope. Call a pro? Yeah that will be $150 diagnosis and $400 parts, and no guarantees that will fix it. F that. Sensor failure and i am taking sh-t apart and chasing electric goblins with my voltmeter. I got lucky and fixed a bad connection for free (plus 2 hours of swearing) Now i have the same elliptical out of service because it powers down mid workout. More electrical. Thinking i could just buy a control panel/console and swap it out (car repair logic) i look on ebay. One option, bad feedback, $400 for a hail mary. Nope. Search online, nothing. Call manufacturer , "not supported sorreeeeeeeee, want to buy a new elliptical? I can connect you to a licensed distributor teehee!". This is now a 6 year old machine. Enshittified shit. Yes there are a few exceptions : the machines with very little tech to go wrong (waterrowers, OG nordic track, and ???) ... The rest are proprietary sensors, consoles, and machinery that is waiting to fail. None of this sh-t has much of a warranty, especially on a $300 budget. Versatility wise, a treadmill will give you a better workout for $300. Look around on CL and FB marketplace, and search web for a few reviews.

The best (non-smart) treadmill to buy?
Probably the NordicTrack 2450. its sturdy, has solid build quality, and the built in workouts are pretty convenient too

What are the Best Treadmills to Buy Now?
I got the Nordictrack 2450 a few years ago, mostly because of the nice screen which supports netflix lol. Only really use it when its snowing out or way too hot, but its held up well through a few marathon training blocks.

In need of a treadmill for home gym
I personally have a Nordic track and love. Daily use for 5 years now. I got the commercial version though. My dad has one too that’s residential and it’s been going strong for almost a decade.
