What’s the best beard trimmer if you want something that lasts long?
Go with corded Andis if you want something that will last you a really really long time. If you're still adamant about it being cordless then go with Norelco 9000.

What’s the best beard trimmer if you want something that lasts long?

Suggestions on facial hair trimmer?
Norelco 7000 I had for nearly 8 years with 0 problems until a baby nephew threw it in the toilet and it sit there for few hours. It died almost 6 months later. I switched to a Norelco 5000 and it's been great 2 years plus. It has a wet/dry feature the 7000 doesn't lol. The 7000 had a better battery and felt more premium though, both are great

Suggestions on facial hair trimmer?
I switched from one of those from Wahl to the rechargeable Norelco body trimmers about 15 years ago and never looked back. Just replaced it last month, they were on sale for like $40 at Costco.

My grandpa gave my this electric razor made in 1987, it still works 38 years later
I can only speak for the new shaver I bought (Norelco 9000) and the answer is yes. Big improvement and so much quieter. My old Braun used a cord, might've gone on forever, but new cutting blade blocks and foils were getting harder to find and it just didn't cut as close as the Norelco.

Men’s Electric Shaver Questions
Second vote for Philips/Norelco shavers. I gave one to my dad (and got an identical one for myself) maybe 15 years ago. I’ve mostly moved on to a newer model but both still work and my dad loves his (he’s in his 80’s now). The only thing that is almost done is the battery but that’s to be expected. I honestly didn’t expect it to last 15 years. It still holds charge for a couple of shaves and the good thing is that it works wired too so it’s never going to die. Truly BIFL shavers.

Men’s Electric Shaver Questions
Older men typically have coarser hair than younger men. The questions I would be asking are: How often does he (intend to shave) How curly does his beard hair grow Then I would be saying: if he shaves daily or every other day, and/or has straight beard/head hair, then a midrange braun will serve him well for years. With regular replacement of the foil and cutter (2 years or so) If he has curly hair or shaves less frequently (3 days or more) I would recommend a higher end Philips/norelco with a similar replacement interval of the cutters/head. I fall into the second camp.

Smooth Beard Trimmer BIFL
Norelco 7000/9000 series stuff and wahl peanut are most recommended. Try searching through the subreddit for “trimmer” and you’ll see some comprehensive responses. My husband uses the norelco one blade and his only complaint is the guards are cheap plastic and break. The razor itself he’s used for ~7 years but he says it’s no good for the neck… he’s also a baby

Smooth Beard Trimmer BIFL
Norelco 9000 - just got it, incredibly amazed. This one has a body attachment that’s just insanely good. Beard attachments are also great. It has this 3mm to 1mm swivel attachment to easily blend sideburns too. I think I spent $90 via target

BIFL razor for the not so hairy man?
Norelco. If you find one of the corded ones, it's bifl since the blades are self-sharpening.

Electric Razor - Braun? Philips?
Completely depends on your hair, if it is straight, then Braun or Panasonic, if it is moderately curly, then Philips/norelco. If you don’t don’t every day/every other day, Philips/norelco

Been using this on “dead” battery for 2 years
I have this one and the norelco body groomer. These things last years. Not a lifeteam, but you could probably make it last 8 or so years if not longer easy.

Do you think BIFL is actually cost effective?
Counter point to the nose hair trimmer, it feels like it’s built like a tank, but the metal is soft. One drop from nose height into the sink and it bent one of the tines on the outer cylinder and it was done for. It also was not terribly good at nose hair trimming. My Phillips norelco micro trimmer that takes as batteries outperforms it and has lasted about five times as long now.

Is there a shaver that you recommend?
I seriously doubt you would even still find that model - unused - after over 2 decades. If I had to buy a new one, I’d look for a Norelco triple header that’s midrange price, and of course, on sale. Above midrange price, I feel that it’s only about extra esoteric bells & whistles stuff that I would not care about, personally, but others might want.
