What products used to be well built back in the day but now are low quality?
I knew the dead bird and pe firms would come up. I don't own any of their products (I buy Norrona to wear gear that's 10x more than my normal use case) but I know their stuff was top shelf and they had quite the following at one point.

Icebreaker no longer selling XS men's shirts. What now?
I have found new old stock and some just new with tag Icebreaker at consignment and thrift shops. There are also websites that sell almost exclusively old stock - like The Last Hunt in Canada - and you might be able to find some that way. Also check Poshmark. Personally, I love the older Icebreaker. I don’t know dates or details but basically when the green tags with the unique id ended, the quality sort of changed in my opinion. New Icebreaker has blended fibre content in some items. I was looking at a sweatshirt the other day and it was 60% tencel 40% merino and still $230. I bought a We Norwegians sweatshirt instead because it is 100% merino. I have been looking at Norrona as an alternative for merino t-shirts but don’t need any at the moment so I can’t comment on the quality or durability. The Gore-Tex shell my husband bought has fantastic attention to detail and the warranty is 7 years if you buy directly from them, so based on that I will likely try their t-shirts.

A list of BIFL not made in the USA
Norrona (from Norway) shells are better than Arcteryx and the company has a bigger focus on technical performance than modern Arcteryx

Has everything we buy reduced in quality over time? Has anything increased in quality or stayed high quality and durable?
I don't, I feel the current nano puff has very odd stitching, loose threads everywhere, one seam outside the sleeve holding it together which failed on mine (similar to [https://www.reddit.com/r/BIFLfails/comments/1g1zuc7/patagonia\_jacket\_sleeve\_ripped\_open\_after\_less/](https://www.reddit.com/r/BIFLfails/comments/1g1zuc7/patagonia_jacket_sleeve_ripped_open_after_less/) ). At least their warranty was good, full credit, maybe it was a fluke - but I bought an R1 with that credit and it had issues with the zipper threading. Full refund that time, repair would take a few months. In comparison, my uniqlo ultralight down is in perfect shape, significantly cheaper, warmer, and just as packable (yes its down - but they have a synthetic "pufftech" line, haven't field tested it, feels just as good though). I also like alpha direct fleeces in lieu of the R1 - lots of companies make them for around the same price, pick whatever fits best. I much prefer the construction on RAB down jackets, norrona and OR for shell jackets, and for basics just uniqlo.
