my kid is wearing mostly his cousins hand me downs rn, but i generally buy on sale/clearance from h&m kids/baby, old navy and gap baby. old navy for some basics for a cheaper price (on sale) my toddler grows like a weed and is quite tall for his age so he outgrows things very fast. h&m things usually fit a bit bigger/long so i get more use out of them which is what i always prefer. I'm always told by people my son is really well dressed which always makes me happy as i do like to dress him up! A lot of his hand me downs are also from h&m and my nephew IS the best dressed toddler i know haha. I have had pretty bad luck with carters and nike stuff, runs small and shrinks a lot! i only use cold water to clean and low/air dry to dry all my things but they still shrink. for colder weather/thermals the wal-mart thermals are super comfy and the uniqlo warmest ones WILL keep ur kid cozy (they are expensive but imo totes worth it). but def lurk on the apps and check out the stores if youre ever in the mall i always find some deals in the sales/clearances

I honestly find some of the “better” brands worth the price, mainly for the fabric they use. The fabrics determine the ability to be resist stains and hold up if you need to scrub them, but also how well they hold their shape. My very favourite is a little Canadian brand called Miles the Label. Blacks have stayed black, fabrics are heavier etc. Ultimately, any brand can have good or bad pieces. Beyond MTL, I’ve had luck with Old Navy leggings and PJs, H&M tops, and Zara sweatshirts. Reima for winter gear. Stride rite has been awesome for shoes for us.

If you have Once Upon a Child go there and look for second hand Primary, Hanna Anderson, Boden, and vintage Gymboree etc... take your time feeling the fabrics. I recently got a Gymboree shirt for my oldest that I'm confident will make it through all (soon to be 3) of my boys because it's so thick and well stitched. Look for shirts that feel sturdy. Some old Gap and Old Navy will be good too. I've also bought kids Ralph Lauren and Tommy Bahama second hand and those are durable too.

Love Hanna quality and cuteness, but I swear the stains cling to it - any item with a perma stain is always Hanna no matter what I use to remove it. Zara for funky stuff or interesting fabrics/designs. Of all I have tried - Kyte Baby or Rags to Raches for softest tees/pjs

Target’s Cat and Jack has much better textile quality when compared to Walmart’s Garanimals and Carter’s. They hold up to hot water washes far better than those two brands, with minimal fading. Carter’s was especially disappointing since they are all marked up and double the price. Old Navy is level with Cat and Jack as well, but don’t shop there as much as Target since Cat and Jacks cuts,m and consistency in clothing sizes for my daughter best. A step up from Cat and Jack would be GAP and H&M, I always forget to shop there more often. We don’t budget for much more than those brand prices since they grow so fast. I now have a few pieces from Cat and Jack that have lasted 2-3 years from my now 6yo, that will be put away for her baby sister. All of the Cat and Jacks clothes that she has grown out of has held up well enough to be great quality hand me downs.

I’ve had shockingly good luck at target! And my old navy jeans have held up better than my Levi’s. I’ll need to dig around Walmart a little bit! It’s super frustrating but I’ve noticed the men’s sections tend to have so many more 100% cotton options than the women’s.

lululemon quality is real but you're right about the price. for similar fabrics without the hype, check out girlfriend collective - their compressive leggings are amazing and they use recycled materials. also, outdoor voices used to be great (their techsweat fabric is similar to lululemon's luxtreme) though their quality has shifted lately. for basics, boody's bamboo fabric is super soft and durable. if you want to spend a bit less, old navy's powersoft line is surprisingly good for the price, just check the fabric content - look for nylon/spandex blends, not just polyester.

Best ROI for BIFL Item?
Toss up between genuine leather old navy belt bought in 2001 or IKEA karlstadt sofa bought off Facebook for $200cdn in 2013. Solid wood construction and actually made in Canada. Survived two toddlers who saw it an it’s cushions as their personal parkour course and now seems to be surgically attached to our 15 year old. Really want to look at something new but it still looks fantastic and we occasionally switch out the cover when it needs a wash. BIFL doesn’t need to be expensive.

Yep, I agree with this. I've been spending a bit more for "quality" myself, but the truth is that fast fashion will often last a long time if cared for. I too have some Old Navy items worn extensively over literal decades that will not die. My Old Navy jeans have outlasted many more expensive pairs. A big part of the problem is that people buy cheap and then think nothing of tossing those items.

You can absolutely find 100% natural materials at Old Navy. You have to be patient and then my super hot take is TO NEVER DRY ANYTHING IN THE DRYER. I have tops from gap and old navy that are 12+ years old because they’ve never seen the inside of a dryer. I got 2 100% cotton cable knit sweaters from Old Navy last year that still look brand new. Again, because I hang them to dry.

It’s also good to know what pieces comprise a wardrobe for you. Like I would start with J Crew/Banana Republic if I were looking for outfits for work. All of my t-shirts/trendy pieces come from Old Navy, preferably during a 50% off sale. Consider what colors you like and what cuts flatter you most before shopping as well. I mostly buy neutral colors, and supplement with blues and greens. And because I have a long torso, high-rise flared/bootcut pants and short A-line skirts look best on me.

Why Levi's jeans quality is very poor?

Cotton Women’s underwear
I really liked the Old Navy high waisted ones for panties. The pregnancy ones were great and I could wear them when I wasn’t pregnant too. I’ve since switched to bamboo cool panties and I love them. I sleep in Tomboy X boxer briefs and they are incredible. Cotton and worth the price.

Old Navy sometimes gets 100% Cotton "Original Straight" jeans around back-to-school time and into early fall. I usually keep an eye out for them when they hit the shelves. I buy a couple pairs at a time when I'm in need of some nicer-looking jeans because I beat the hell out of mine. They're usually part of a "sale" and priced anywhere from $30 early in the season to as low as $10-15 depending on stock level and whether they are clearance. I've found the time to buy is when they are around $20 or a bit under, only because stock levels aren't depleted yet so most sizes are still available.

This is a fitment problem and this is not /r/fitment. Tall shirts are the start. If you wear a Large, start buying Large Tall shits from today forward. Many online stores have this secret feature that you cannot find in stores. Tall fitment is a thing but mostly online and/or you have to hunt for it. Pants you just need to ensure you are buying the right size. Men don't try shit on. Its what we do. But you have to be honest with yourself when buying pants as a 38 waist varies even within the same brand like old navy....Jeans A fit great and Jeans B are loosey goosey. And get you a good belt or two in black and brown to sinch up your pants. I'm not a fan of suspenders but those are an option too and https://www.amazon.com/Welch-Stuff-Y-Back-Button-Suspenders/dp/B07VZPJ4D1 are legit but you'll have to have bachelor buttons installed by a seamstress/tailor.....clipons are not the way.

Good quality yoga pants
For something durable and comfortable, I’d recommend looking into brands like **Lululemon**, **Athleta**, or **Girlfriend Collective**. They offer great options with longer inseams that should work well for tall folks. **Lululemon's Align leggings** are super popular and buttery soft, but a bit on the pricey side (definitely worth it if you're doing a lot of yoga). If you’re looking for something more budget-friendly, **Old Navy’s PowerSoft** leggings are amazing for the price, and they have some good tall options too. Another thing to consider is the fabric. I'm a lover of casual dresses. I find a few I like and buy them in multiple colors. Pair with a light sweater or denim jacket and nice sandals or sneakers. I shop the Old Navy, Gap & Banana Republic sales for dresses and matching cardigans. And make sure the jackets are well fitted. Levis & Tommy Hilfiger are my go to's for jackets. I generally just feel the material, I look for heavy cotton or things that just generally feel high-quality. However, I have had amazing luck with PacSun jeans. They don’t shrink and have held up amazingly. Lilly Pulitzer is quite expensive and gendered, but the quality is there. Old Navy is even okay. Actually, I’ve had a lot of Target clothes hold up as well!

Best high quality performance tee?
The old Navy Go Dry shirts, honestly, last forever, and are cheap enough that you don't care if they get a hole in them. Around Memorial Day, there were a few colors in store that they were selling for five or six dollars each. I think the normal price is 14 or so. I'm actually trying to switch back to cotton shirts for day to day though, But cannot justify spending 25 or more on a plain cotton t-shirt.

Best high quality performance tee?
Keep an eye out in your local Ross or TJ Maxx if you have any around you for a brand called Legends. They typically $8.00 and pretty much nail exactly what you're looking for, and I find they have a good medium slim silhouette...I have skinny arms and particularly like the way their sleeves drape, way too many tees tend to look like flagpoles on me. Lately though I've been really liking the Old Navy's Active Cloud Soft performance tees as they're thinner, making them more comfortable in the heat, and have a slightly slimmer fit than the Legends. They have 50% off sales on them every 2 months or so while they're in season, and so also run about $8.00 on sale.

Do you think BIFL is actually cost effective?
I never think about it. I've several things from Old Navy that have lasted 25 years and I still wear them. Had bought expensive things like TVs and other electronics have lasted a year. All my Apple devices are still in use. I have jackets from Land's End that supposed to be for life, have a 1998 wool coat bought in a basement in Colombia, still use it. It depends.

Flannel shirts that last
I have five flannel shirts from Old Navy from the very late 1900s. If you have access to a time machine, go to the San Franscico location on Market Street.

My Dad had lots.of Eddie Bauer shirts in tall and some are from a long time ago, like easily 10-15 years. Same with sweaters. I've actually taken some and have been wearing them and they are still in great shape. I've gotten lots of old navy (in tall) ones and I find as long as I don't dry them in the dryer then they don't shrink and no pill.
