What was the best purchase you made this year?
OLIGHT Arkfeld Ultra 1400. I love this thing. Both the UV and standard light are bright AF. The laser is fun. I use the UV to set my glow lures on fire. Warning: Do NOT walk around your house at night with the UV light. You'll never be the same especially if you inspect your bathroom. Don't do it.

Best thing to buy for $100
Picking a “best” hundred‑buck item is tough because most things in that range die from cheap materials, not how you use them. Longevity usually comes down to the material, not whatever name is stamped on the side. For anything metal, look for stainless steels like 420HC up to S30V, not some mystery alloy with a shiny finish. For tools, a one piece forged steel body lasts decades longer than cast or welded parts. For fabrics, 1000D nylon or heavy waxed canvas in the 18 to 22 ounce range holds up long after the lighter stuff blows out. For electronics, anything with a user replaceable 18650 battery will outlive the sealed battery junk. If you want concrete picks, the Leatherman Rebar is usually the safest bet in that price range. Same story with an Olight S2R Baton II if you want a light you can keep running for years. A basic carbon steel chef knife like the Victorinox Fibrox 8 inch also punches way above its price and lasts as long as you bother to sharpen it. Biggest trap is anything held together with glue, sealed batteries, or fancy coatings. Those are just early failure points pretending to be features.

I have to spend $150 at amazon this week
Swiss army knife and a good flashlight like an OLIGHT or Fenix... Also a good lighter. Zippo is a BIFL... Depends where you are going if it get cold a stormy kromer hat. If it's warm, some sort of hat for warm weather (sorry no opinion)

What’s a BIFL thing you bought and now swear by?
Pocket flashlight. I carry an Olight about the size of my thumb. Hella bright

What’s a purchase that’s not fun, not flashy but now you swear by it?
Ironically enough it was the flashlight feature that pushed me over the edge to my first smartphone. But my little thing sized O light will blind you

[Request]What are some gadgets that changed your life?
Thanks for the info. I just upgraded my keychain with the OLIGHT I1R II and Victorinox Mini Champ. I basically copied you with maybe a minor tweak lol. The real test will be the bottle opener on the SWA. I've ruined three or four key chain bottle openers in the past.

Some of my favorite BIFL EDC items.
I got an o light arcfirkd pro for Christmas. It was $80 but it’s a pretty neat light. It’s bright has a black light and laser. I don’t know about OPs light tho

Brands you swear by that have Buy It For Life quality products
Interesting. Out of 75 coworkers, none have had an O-Light fail in 5 years, and prior to that only from extraordinary falls. I'll agree their website is quite a trip and they seem to be doing a lot more endorsement now versus when I got my first headlight from them. I've been guilty of leaving them on in my pocket a lot and never had an issue other than being hot to the touch, but still usable. Seen enough Streamlights melt or explode within a year, or just from snow, if any of the fasteners actually stay in them that long before falling out. I haven't bought a new light in 2 years ish, so maybe their quality has crapped out, but Streamlights was never there to begin with. I had really good luck with my Fenix lights but I know they're a crapshoot.

Channellock and maglites I'll disagree with. Neither one has lasted more than a few months at work, Streamlite is another over hyped into oblivion without the quality to support it. I'm in a mechanical trade and a lot of time in the Weather, so it is a rough life. Knipex and O-Light as alternatives - done horrible shit to them, rarely broken and always warrantied.

Interested in niche daily products
Olite mini. It’s a keychain flashlight that is connected magnetically and charges in any usb port. It’s bright, the battery lasts a very long time on a charge, it’s a great little fidget toy (pull it away to turn the light on and then let it snap back magnetically) AND it’s only $20 on bezosdotcom
