  Toothbrush with cleanable (sanitized?) charging case or cover

  I feel you on the toilet spray thing, it's gross. I ended up getting an Oral-B iO and it came with a case that closes up, but honestly I just bought a separate wall mounted UV sanitizer from Amazon for like 30 bucks. Works with any electric toothbrush and charges it while sanitizing. Way better than leaving it out on the counter. You can wipe the case down whenever. Also yeah closing the toilet lid before flushing definitely helps but I still don't trust it.

  Oral B! The round brush head really makes a difference because it kind of cups your tooth. You need to move it like you’re polishing each tooth. I have gum issues and was using a lower model Oral B for a while that was doing ok but I didn’t like how loud it was and it felt like the battery was giving out. Decided to try Sonicare - I liked the brush itself but after 2 months I had a dentist appt and my gums had gotten worse. The hygienist was like “why did you do that” lol. So, I got an Oral B iO Series 3 and I love it. I know it’s doing a better job, and I’m looking forward to my next appt.

  There is no buy it for life electric toothbrush. However, I bought an Oral B 1000 16 months ago. It broke. I had another in my cart because, while I was irked, I loved the toothbrush and it was less $$ than the first time I bought it. Last minute I googled the warranty and it was two years! I contacted the company, spoke with pleasant csr and had a new one, no charge, in less than a week.

  from what i’ve seen brand matters way less than the specific model. like oral-b is a good example i’ve had one of their cheaper models die on me pretty fast, but something like the Pro 1000 / Pro 1500 line is a tank and just keeps going if you don’t care about fancy features. same with sonicare: the DiamondClean looks nice but the simpler ProtectiveClean models tend to last longer and are easier to replace parts for. imo [this aquasonic one](https://deo9gr5ha90bn.cloudfront.net/?q=GMKAO1525) is cool but i can’t really speak for their other models, just that one.

  We just bought a iO 2 bundle, love then. Just enough tech, no BT connexion, no Wi-fi. Just a regular 30 sec timer. Feels incredibly clean after. Battery is changeable. Easy to carry, battery lasts 40 days. Feels solid, 100% waterproof. I don't trust anything with apps and server side connexions anymore. Easiest way to brick anything is to have it connested to company server to work. Just stay far from those. There is NO bifl electronic devices.

  Can’t tell an exact model, but the difference between an old rotating oral-b and a modern oral-b iO is decades apart. Like comparing a renault to a mercedes or some temu vacuum to a dyson. The new ones cost more, but the cleanliness they achieve is next level compared to the cheaper old tech.

  I've had a regular Oral-B for many years, then a top-line Oral-B for the last 8. [Just like these.](https://hiarthur.com/?share=8747737a-4672-463c-b9c6-ded3b30ef3ef) The big difference is the cleaning modes. The top-line one has deep clean, tongue clean, soft clean, and so on. There's even AI clean now. In the 8 years I've had it, I used anything other than default clean maybe once. Everything you mentioned is available on the regular model. In terms of battery life you leave it on the charger when you're not using it. If you're traveling, a full charge will last about 1.5 weeks. So I would definitely recommend getting an electric Oral-B, but pass on the top-line models.

  My dentist told me that round-headed electric toothbrushes are the best and there’s no difference between the cheap Oral-B ones and the expensive ones (for purely dental hygiene, up to you if you need extra features like an app). Since they all seem to have integrated batteries, they can’t really be BIFL. What I do is spend the 20€, and whenever the battery becomes unusable years down the line I just replace the toothbrush.

  Please do not overthink this. Philips Sonicare and Oral B both make good electric toothbrushes that will be a significant improvement over a manual toothbrush -- so much so that the minor differences between them are trivial. Buy one you get a good deal on, as long as it has a 2-minute timer. Beyond that, change the heads regularly, and actually use it for 2 minutes, hover don't just drag it around your teeth. Also, even though this will be a huge improvement over manual brushes, flossing is still very additive to your oral hygiene if you can muster the willpower to do it.

  So I have both a sonicare, and I just switched to oral b a week ago, and I would say get the oral b, but don't be fooled by the different "levels" of toothbrush they offer. Just get the IO 3/deep clean. The others cost more but the only benefit is that they have an absurd amount of features you'll never use (like AI nonsense). All you need is the pressure light, and the 2 minute/30s quadrant timer. the rest is a waste.

  I agree the gimmicks are annoying, but a rotating brush is leagues better than simply vibrating. Oral-b is the only toothbrush I’ve found that rotated and functions nearly as well as the polisher the dentist uses.

  this is true of any oral b design, and most if not all electric toothbrushes..... I find this design is better for me than either the standard oral b or the sonicare, basically a fusion of the two for me. a rinse before and after is fine for me but I dont live in a water restricted area.

  What do you usually look for when choosing an electric toothbrush?

  I asked my dentist that a couple of months ago, we're in Germany for clarification. She said she can recommend Phillips and Oral B in general. It should have a mode to massage your gums to stimulate blood flow and strengthen it. She also said to go with the original replacement heads as the quality of the cheap ones is questionable at best (many cheap ones just cut the bristles while the original ones are rounded off). I have gotten myself a Oral B last week and so far am very happy about it.

  when it comes to picking a travel electric toothbrush, the cleaning power is almost the same across the board so the real differences are in how travel-friendly the design is. charging is usually the biggest factor, usb-c is way more convenient since you can use the same cable as your phone instead of carrying a base. battery powered ones are simpler but you’ll be hunting for aaa batteries if you forget. the next big thing is how you actually pack it. without a case the bristles get nasty pretty fast, so a solid cover is usually better than the foldable gimmick ones that feel flimsy. noise and size matter too, some of the more powerful oral-b models get loud in a quiet hotel room, while slimmer sonic brushes like philips are easier to toss in a bag. when i was comparing, i ended up checking out this site called reddit vetted where someone’s compiled actual reddit reviews into lists you can filter by price, charging type or portability. way easier than digging through dozens of scattered threads. quip is compact and cheap but honestly closer to a powered manual brush than a full clean. suri keeps popping up because it’s usb-c charged and slim, plus more eco-friendly. philips and oral-b both make “travel” editions that are reliable but usually take up a bit more room. the combo that seems to win most people over is slim handle, usb-c charging, and a sturdy case.

  I recently got an Oral-B after a few years of manual toothbrushes and oh boy do they feel cheap and horrible now. Battery is also awful. Suri etc are sonic not rotating so closer to manual and likely gentler. Absurd pricing imo though. All of these new ones popping up makes me wonder if a patent has expired or they've just figured out they can put a $2 battery and $5 motor in a plastic cylinder and charge $60 for it.

  Receiving used toothbrushes isn't a product issue, it's a vendor issue? Anecdotal, but my first Oral B lasted me ~14 years, the second one has been going strong since 2017-2018 or so. I just got the cheapest available model with a rechargable battery each time. I see absolutely no reason for a toothbrush to be "intelligent" and have bluetooth though, so that might exclude them from your selection.

  What’s a great electric toothbrush that’ll be good for life?

  I’ve replaced 3 batteries I can remember. Lithium ion replacements that performed way better than the originals. Got them on eBay. Used a YouTube video to know how to take it apart and solder the contacts etc. I’d say it’s entry level. Not even close to the skill needed for iPhone battery replacement. Couple take aways from my experience. Oral b could very easily make the battery simple for anyone to replace but they choose not too. Designed obsolescence. The amount of gunk inside the case when I’ve worked on them is unacceptable. They are not sealed well in my experience and the design has not been improved at all in the last decade. The big change was ni cad to lithium. There isn’t a better brushing action on the market that I’ve used. So I keep buying a not BIFL product. Which is a bummer. Assuming the brush is used 2x a day, everyday, for the full amount of time. That is pretty impressive. After one battery replacement I’m done. At that point the handles rubber or something else is disintegrating.

  My Oral-B just died. It's activating on its own and the balutton won't turn it off. It lasted 10 years. The battery is still kicking ass! Bc I replaced it four years ago with a quality and capacity upgrade someone sells out of the UK on eBay. It was kind of annoying to replace, but not bad. Took like 30 minutes on the first try.

  Late reply but I’ll share my opinion. As a person who is obsessed with his dental routine, sonicare is definitely no BIFL material. If you buy oral-B mid to top of the range toothbrush, that is BIFL. I personally use all the important modes like deep clean, gum health, tongue care and I use different intensities on each mode so for me, as a person who brushes 2-3 times a day for +5 minutes each time, buying high end electric toothbrush matters since tongue care is reserved for top of the line products. I can justify the price but for 90% of the people it is unnecessary. Mid range with pressure indicator and gum cleaning mode will be perfect for normal folk. That being said, sonicare is not durable. Last year I switched from oral-b top of the line to philips. Philips looks more premium, less silent on the paper, uses vibration rather than motion(still better to use slight brushing motion while using philips). Handle really feels higher quality and when its working properly, it is higher quality than Oral-B but it has a big flaw that ruins it. The way it is designed, vibrating motor on top of the handle moves slightly out of its position and when it happens, the handles becomes garbage. It doesnt vibrate properly, makes A LOT of noise and you cant fix it. Once you open the toothbrush, its water proofing seal is done for. Only solution is using the warranty to exchange your handle to a new one. Its been less than a year since the purchase and Im already on my 3rd replacement handle. Each time I have to go to post office, wait around 2 weeks to receive the new one and once the warranty is done, I know within a few months I have to buy a new toothbrush because it will break again. So Sonicare looks good on the outside but designed to break on the inside. The motor moving is incredibly common on Sonicare products, maybe many people dont even notice their toothbrush is broken and still using them. If they designed the toothbrush where the motor doesnt move out of its position, then it’d be 10/10 product. When working properly it really feels amazing, its silent and feels so clean afterwards. Good thing they honor the warranty. You are on your own after warranty ends though. Other cons of Sonicare is that you brush heads are not easy to find and much more expensive compared to oral-b brush heads. Where I live, I have to order online so I am forced to buy bulk so I dont order every month. Oral-B brush heads sold in everywhere and cost less. So once this one breaks, Im going back to good old Oral-B. Oral-B is built like a tank, so durable. The only problem I had in my old one was plastics on the handle peeled away after using it for +3 years and mold was growing where the plastics peeled off. Never had any other issues other than that and it actually feels a tiny bit cleaner after brushing with oral-B since brush head is spinning. Tldr: sonicare has flawed designed that is prone to break. Buy Oral-B instead. Mid to high end Oral-B’s are BIFL and worth the money.

  Came across this while looking into a new electric toothbrush. I had the Oral B Pro 1000 for 6 years- it's still going strong but the black rubbery covering near the top has kind of peeled away (hard to explain lol - happy to post a pic). Might go with the same one again- not a bad price as my income is... non-existent for the time being (Yay job hunt!).   as the cleaning result is the same, but availability of pro brush heads and its ease to clean, I would always go for a pro. i prefer older pro 2 handels, i even like the nimh batteries. or alternatively the genius/smart predecessors. if you want the new head go with io3 or io6 if you want a gimmick. I don't like the magnetic stands in iO7 and higher. Best buy is pro 2 3500 (EU naming, might be different in US, maybe pro 1000) i have one of those from 2014 and it still runs fine (battery a bit week after 2-3 days, but i just keep it on the charger

  I agree with doc here, the timer thing really helps you not overbrush which is also a thing as i found out recently, and just does all the thinking for you. Oral B is a good classic, but there’s slightly cheaper stuff out now too that works just as well, they’re just not as well known as these big name brands. There’s Burst, there’s Teetheory (that word play tickles me). [Burst’s Original](https://SmartChoice-Hub.github.io/Vault/?to=which_oral_b_electric_toothbrush) is pretty good actually, its got the timer, its rechargeable, the bristles are soft so your gums don’t bleed. And its got like these different modes, like different intensities for whether your teeth are feeling sensitive that day or you wanna brush them more vigorously for whitening and stuff. Overall, a good find, especially in the budget cos its pointless to fork out more than a hundred on a toothbrush imo.

  Budget toothbrush without gaps?

  Budget-wise I like the Phillips One, the re-chargeable kind! There’s not much that can break, no pressure sensors or different modi. If you want it to spend more, I can recommend the Io series from Oral-B, I just took one apart to replace the battery and it seems sturdy, plus everything is easily accessible.

  There are studies that show that oscillating electric toothbrushes (oral B and sonicare) slightly outperform old fashioned toothbrushes but not by much. The thing that I like about the electric ones is that they time out two minutes for you. As long as you’re brushing along the gum line for two minutes with any sort of toothbrush, fluoride toothpaste and floss you should be able to clean sufficiently!

  Agree, but if someone is like me (ie has some tylenol induced 'tism) and finds the rotating heads too intense, something like Sonicare is better than a regular brush and a regular brush is way way better than nothing. I still use my OralB one, though not daily and I had to really search for a small, very soft head for it. Otherwise it feels like I'm drilling my head off, especially where it gets cramped at the back of my mouth. No matter how much I try I can't get used to the vibrations in my ears. I try compensate by brushing every tooth in every angle I can.

Of course, I'm a person who has reupholstered their own car, fixed their own toilet, etc. so my definition of easy repair might be different than yours. But it really is a simple repair. As hinted in the battery disposal section of the official manual, the toothbrush was literally designed with battery access in mind. If you do that, then you'd have 2 working toothbrushes or you'd even be able to consider returning the new one.

  I suggest replacing the battery. If it still has problems after that, then it means the toothbrush itself is faulty or damaged. Also, you should disable bluetooth on the toothbrush if you're not using it, otherwise the toothbrush will waste power searching for a bluetooth signal from a smartphone.

  I definitely see what you're saying, but I see a big difference between brand replacement heads and the generic ones. Personally, I have really sensitive gums and the generic ones are always too harsh for me (even the ones marketed as "soft brushes"), which ends up being a massive waste of money. If we're talking about the best electric toothbrush, I really need to recommend [this oral b brush](https://www.reddit.com/user/carolynStork/comments/1n85ak8/best_electric_toothbrush_that_i_have_owned/). It's pricey, but if you have the cash to drop, I think it's really worth it. As someone whose gums are super sensitive the pressure sensor is a must, and I know exactly how long to spend brushing each part of my mouth with it. I don't think the oral b replacement heads in general are insanely priced, but to be honest, I haven't found a cheaper alternative of the same quality.

  Bidet attachment for my toilet. Can get them for well under $50 and it pays itself off in a year in toilet paper savings. I use maybe a roll a month now. I would not have even known there was a TP shortage during covid had it not been for all the news about it. I had bought a 12 pack earlier in the year before lockdown and by the time I needed more, supplies had already stabilized.  A cheap oral-b electric toothbrush you can find for under $50. The brush head have off brand suppliers that are a fraction of the cost and work just as well as the expensive ones. The level of clean that even a basic electric toothbrush gets your teeth over manually brushing is massive. There's really no need to get the super expensive versions of the brush. Especially if you floss properly. A set of basic dental tools like picks and scrapers costs like, $10 or so. They come in handy for picking off plaque I between dentist visits.

  Oral B vs Philips Sonicare - is the rounded electric toothbrush head better for you compared to the non-rounded?

  I have oralb and my hygienist told me my gums are not doing good and use a water flosser. 4 months later my hygenist says my gums are in much better shape since I started using water flosser. I wish someone told me to use water flosser for gums, dont just rely on tooth brush. The water flosser i use is some cheap one on amazon but its pretty strong.

  K, but seriously. I had mine for about 15? Ish years before it finally crapped out. I bought a new set for me and my husband. HOLY SHIT. The motor+battery power is so insanely intense. It took a few days to get use to it. But I'd never felt my mouth so fucking clean before. It felt borderline assaulted by cleanliness. I spent a whole afternoon licking my teeth because it was crazy how well it worked. It will be a SHOCK if you buy a new one.

  for braces, i’d lean toward something that has a solid battery life so you’re not constantly charging it on top of all the other dental stuff you’re already dealing with. oral-b is great at scrubbing around brackets because of the small round head, but the battery isn’t always the strongest unless you go higher up their line. sonicare tends to last way longer between charges (sometimes 2–3 weeks easy), and the sonic vibrations do a good job of shaking loose stuff that hides around wires. soocas is cool with the combo flosser idea, but i’ve found the “all-in-one” types don’t hold a charge as long once you start using both functions regularly. might be better to keep toothbrush and flosser separate if you don’t want to be plugging it in every few days. i’ve also seen other brands like sakyproral (don’t know if i’m spelling it right, but [linking here](https://nelsonfoto.com/dp-B08BK51CQHAK) so you can check it out) come up with toothbrushes that last 150 days so maybe check out other brands too[.](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08BK51CQH)

  Electric toothbrushes [SURI]

  I succumbed to the lovely design aesthetic, the long charge and the travel friendliness of the SURI but it's going back. The toothbrush head just doesn't clean my teeth well enough, especially the front back teeth. The gap between the head and the body fills with slobber (yuk) and as many have written about, I am very suspicious of the metal prongs getting wet at the base. It just isn't worth the £95 I paid. I'm going back to my Oral B.

  27 years is astonishing! It's nothing like your 27 years, but my family are all using Oral Bs that we've had for 7 years now. We had a charge stop lasting very many uses in a couple of them after only about a year's usage (maybe 2), so we've changed the batteries in 2 of them (soldered in AA Eneloop Pros which have lasted this whole time, and they last much longer on a charge than the original battery when new and maintain a faster speed longer). Absolutely great toothbrushes. Here's hoping I can get as long out of mine as you did yours. I do wonder if you can't just solder in a new battery like we did? There are guides on iFixit that are helpful with that.

  Both of those will get the job done, but a lot of the “extra” features in higher tiers are more about add-ons than a better clean. Feno takes a different approach with 18,000 bristles cleaning the whole mouth at once in 20 seconds. Would you rather stick to a trusted brand name or try something that rethinks the routine entirely?

  I think the top 2 are Sonicare and Oral-B. The main difference between them is how the head moves. Oral-B has a rotating/spinning motion while the Sonicare has a vibration/back-and-forth motion. I have heard that the smaller head of the Oral-B is better for hard to reach areas? Makes sense, but I don't know if that is that much different than the Sonicare. I personally went with Sonicare and I have not regretted it. My brother praises his Oral-B. In the end, the best toothbrush is the one you will actually use.

  I have an Oral B ios 8. it comes with a travel box that also charges (- a bit longer than an Etui for glasses). Has a display with different settings. (Can also be used with an app if you wanna over do it a bit) I just came back from a 4 day trip. I brought it in the box with the charger but I didn’t charge it once. I always bring the cable just in case, but I never charge it on short trips. There is no need to pick a newer model than the 8 from the ios Series, unless you wanna pay 100€ more for an additional clock display on the docking charger. The 8 already has everything one could want and is very efficient and the best electric on the market. Previous models from the series are also solid. And would be cheaper of course. The Oral B ios Series could have a price issue if you don’t wanna pay a lot. Currently you can find Nr. 8 at around 150€ upwards. Tip; if you know someone who would also want one, get the couple package. There are two inside for a significant price difference. Around 240€ for 2

  The second study is almost 20 years old at this point and both technologies have come a long way. They now are more or less the same, with the Oral B able to reach the back teeth easier while the vibration of the Sonicare marginally better at cleaning gums, which is rendered inert if you also use a water flosser.

  I don't get the point of all the extra shenanigans either, it's literally just a toothbrush. It only supposed to clean well and last me long enough + not cost like $200. And if you need it for a few good years, the brush needs to come with at least 5+ brush heads. Also i dont think you need to make it so complicated, go on amazon for 10 mins and youll have at least one good brand. I have [this one](https://videoguidelines.com/dp-B0DDJ4JYXHV) saved which is a premium kind for $40 and around a years warranty. Its the timer and battery life that mainly do well compared to similar range brushes which I looked at. Basically its got all the basics and a few additional features with the travel case and overall performance.

  Jack of all trades, master of none. Buy separate ones that do great job at their own. Toothbrush i have has lasted me a long time (oral-b) but water floss sometimes starts giving issues around the 3-5 year mark (waterpik). Don't want to have to replace everything or not know what is causing the issue, leading to replacing the 2-in-1. Water floss, I feel like you get much better control with the small tips, more manurable, especially with the wisdom teeth. I have to use a small baby toothbrush just to get the top wisdom teeth (dentist instructions).

  I had a Sonicare, switched to oral B.   If teeth were cars, Sonicare is like getting a car wash, Oral B is like getting a detail. I switched bc I asked my hygienist in which she recommended and she said either is better than a regular toothbrush.  I pressed her a little harder and she said Oral B. Sonicare my teeth felt clean.  Oral B my teeth feel squeaky clean.   I had a $100~ Sonicare and now a $70~ Oral B both from Costco.  (Price was for 2 toothbrushes).

  I came here to say the same thing, my Oral B toothbrush is 6 plus years old and still going strong. One thing I like about it, it uses replacement batteries (AA) so I don't need a charger on the sink and a set of batteries lasts me for several months. Replacement heads are dirt cheap since you're just replacing the bristles.

  This is the right option. Wtf does one need Bluetooth for in a toothbrush any way?  My First oral be (like 40USD equivalent in Norway) was a basic model. It lasted me around 16 years front around 2000 before the rechargeable battery was exhausted. Bought a new, "cheapest model I could find" (~30 usd equivalent) when the first one died and it is still going strong. Probably saved 100x the cost of both in dentist bills as I basically stopped having cavities after switching.

  I’m a dentist. Both are very good. Use whichever one you like more. I use a Sonicare, my wife uses an Oral-B. Just make sure you replace the heads regularly since they wear out and the bristles fray and get soft (around every 4 months for the average person).

  Medium-tier end Oral B. You don't need the fancy bells and whistles (Wifi on a toothbrush? WTF?), but there's a noticeable difference between the different versions. I'm pretty sure I have the Pro 2000 model, as it has the pressure guide. It's a great brush. And my dentist loves that I have it.

  We bought an expensive Oral B Genius X maybe 6 years back and it was excellent, though cost somewhere in the region of £100-150 if I remember correctly (maybe cheaper, I feel like we bought it on discount right after Christmas perhapse). Interchangeable heads make it easy to share one handle between a family which eases the price burden, but financially electric is definitely more expensive as the heads are pricey. Anyway it died last year and we replaced it with a cheaper alternative from Oral B, the Vitality Pro. At £22.50 it is bargain bucket in comparison to the old one. Noticeable differences are that the battery life is much worse, it's noisier, doesn't feel as well made, and didn't come with any accessories (like a travel case). In terms of buy it for life... lets do some maths on the first brush: 2 Adults = 8 minutes of brushing per day, which is 2920 minutes per year, or 48 hours per year total. 5 years gives us 243 hours of lifetime before it gave up the ghost, approximately. Does that constitute BIFL for a toothbrush? Probably not IMO. I don't suppose the replacement will last 5 years, but it's already lasted 1 year so we're already at the balancing point for cost vs life compared to the old one.

  My oral b is about 15 years old and still going. Not sure the model. Guaranteed the insides have changed in that time. Oddly, you might consider buying a **used toothbrush** (gasp) in this case because you buy the heads new and replace them every year ish anyway. I understand if youre sqeamish about that idea but i dont think theres any medical concern since the heads will be new. Used ones you know you havent got a lemon if it survived the first year or three.

  I’ll be honest, I saw an unopened Oral-B something or whatever at a pawn shop a few years ago for $40 (CAD), and jumped on it. It has Bluetooth, but I’ve never used it. My teeth are white, not blue. Replacement heads from Walmart are cheaper than the official ones. It “pulses” to let me know when to move onto the next area. I divide my teeth into “quadrants”, top right, top left, bottom right, bottom left, and switch quadrants each time it pulses. Adds up to a full 2 mins. I feel like I’ve never brushed a full 2 mins until I got this gadget. I also don’t leave it on the charger 24/7. The battery lasts weeks between full charges. I try to loosely follow the “keep it between 20-80%” rule, but what that really means is charging it full, then using it for about 2 weeks. Based on the size, it feels like it *should* have an 18650, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s some proprietary junk. TL,DR: find a good deal on one and jump on it. Disregard the bells and whistles. Look for one with a ‘timer’ feature (like the 30sec/quadrant system), and be happy brushing. I looked up the model of mine, and apparently it’s from 2016 and came with an app and crap. I wouldn’t be remotely surprised if the app has been discontinued 9 years later. I bought it in 2022 if I recall correctly.

  Agreed on the dental care. I hate the dentist and didn’t go for what I thought was 2 years - it was 5 (thanks COVID black hole!) I use a sonicare morning and night. When I finally went in for a cleaning they brought an intern/trainee in to look at what “properly taken care of teeth really look like.” I was stunned. That said, their quay is crap IMHO. We’ve bought at least 4 in the last 6 years or so. My mom had an Oral-B that lasted her at least 15 years or something.

  Both sonicare and oral-b do better than manual brushing (according to tests), the difference between them is the kind of motion they use and you will likely prefer one over the other (sonicare vibrates, oral-b rotates, they feel different but both clean your teeth). The basic functions within each line are the same, more money buys you features you might or might not care about but the more expensive models don’t necessarily clean any better.

  I just replaced my oral b with a new one. The previous one lasted about 20 years. The battery was surprisingly still fine at the end but the button kind of got mushy and hard to press. The only feature I really care about is the 2 minute timer.

  Best Electric Toothbrush To Buy 2025?

  Branding literally doesn’t matter anymore here. The internal tech is so accessible now that they all use the same basic stuff, that’s why electric toothbrushes have gotten so cheap over the years. The only product differentiation is now in hyperspecific features and shit like LED lights etc etc. obviously build materials also matter in terms of durability so with that I wouldn’t really recc going below 50 dollars for the whole set up cos then its a scam teehee. Gonna drop a few here, there’s the sonicare series, oral B has really good models, Suri’s had a couple issues but its the only model that accepts repairs, there’s also my Smile (a little nicher so [linking it here](https://recommendedstuff.com/dp-B09SHMDBQRFSA)). Out of these, top 2 would be oral B and My smile, just all rounders in terms of durability. Preferring the my smile a little bit more for the accuracy of the timer (the oral B one is a little hit or miss sometimes). Both have got a couple of different modes for brushing, depending on what you need. You don’t need any sort of “whitening” mode, its a marketing gimmick but the ones for deep cleaning and slow brushing are really useful.

  Any electric is going to be light-years better than manual. I lean towards the cheaper end of the spectrum - I don't need all the bells and whistles, or an app (seriously?) for a toothbrush. Mine is an Oral B, but I've had a Sonicare in the past that was also good. I doubt you could go wrong with either brand. They don't make mine anymore, and I've just realized, they stopped making the replacement heads for it too. I don't trust the generic heads to do as good a job or last as long, so I might be shopping for a new one, too, soon. lol (It's fine - I've had this one for like 15 years. Mine runs one a AA, though - there's no way a rechargeable would last nearly that long.)

  I have used a sonicare or oral-b for about 15-20 years. I had more than a dozen cavities get filled until I started using an electric toothbrush. My dentist said I am prone to cavities because I have thick saliva. Since I have started using one I am not sure if I have had more than one cavity. I would recommend one for anyone. Any name brand electric toothbrush will probably last 5-15 years. I have only bought 2 and both still work, but I’d be hard pressed to call either BIFL. But I’d say switching to an electric toothbrush would be you buying something to keep your real teeth for life.

They have all lasted a long time and the first one was still running fine but was putting out a faint burnt smell when it ran for a while so I decided to replace it.   Electric toothbrush was life changing for me. Teeth feel dentist clean every day and takes less time to brush. I just have the bottom tier oral B model that costs like $30.   I avoided an electric toothbrush for years as well. I am quite good about brushing, but have gum issues from it. Dental hygienist recommended an electric toothbrush. Got mine a few weeks ago. It definitely cleans my teeth so much better. Will have to wait and see if my gums see a benefit (don't get worse). I got the Oral B IO 3 from Costco for $60 or $70. It doesn't have the bluetooth, app stuff which I didn't want. Works just fine.

  I used to use Sonicare but found myself having to return them at Costco for durability issues every 12-18 months. The metal “pole” that the brushes attach to would become loose and the brush would not oscillate correctly. This was years ago so maybe they have got better. Back then I switched to Oral B and they seem a lot more durable, although five years later I have the same battery life problem that you do now. I actually bought a new Oral B at costco but found out in the new models the old brush heads are incompatible. I still have 5-6 old model brush heads so I returned the new brush until I run out of brush heads…

  I did write it at the bottom of the post but you'll need to visit the Electric Teeth website to find the US/your country's version I've just gone and done that for you and it is the Oral B Smart 1500 which you can find on Amazon and elsewhere. I'd aim to try and spend $50 & under. You shouldn't really be paying the full retail price of $80. There always on sale somewhere.

  I had a Sonicare for years and when it died I got an Oral B. My teeth felt so much cleaner. At my next dental appointment the hygienist didn't need clean my teeth for as long as she used to before.

  Is it worth paying more for the high-end Sonicares, or are the basic ones just as effective?

  My dentists and hygienist recommended Oral B because it has a rotating rather than sliding action. The new ones all have a bunch of bells and whistles but all you need is a pressure sensor.

  RIP My 20ish Year Old Braun Electric Toothbrush

  I was just looking this up earlier today to recommend a friend because it's the one I have. look up the oral-B 1000 toothbrush, it has a little braun label near the bottom of the handle I believe. don't let them upsell you on a more expensive model tbh, the $49.99 version does everything you need it to do and from what I can tell is the same or very close to the one you're used to.

  RIP My 20ish Year Old Braun Electric Toothbrush

  I had an Oral-B Vitality for 4 years. It still worked but when I replaced it with a brand new one, the difference was very noticeable. The old one was louder and the brush head had more play in it. I can't imagine how loose and loud that one was at 20 years old.

  Braun still makes an updated version of this model, it is branded under Oral-B and it's like $50. Just google "Braun toothbrush", the guts are the same - electric motor and NiMH battery. I had the same one you have and it lasted me over 10 years. The reason these last so long is the NiMH battery, much more robust and tolerant to over-discharging than a lithium ion battery. They even sell replacement batteries for like $10 if you know how to solder.

  What is a better buy: Oral B Pro Series or Oral B iO Series?

  I got a really high end oral b and my cute cute cute then housekeeper said it had mold growing on it so she threw it away it was toothpaste residue. She took it home with her. I told her to go find a new job. So then I got a few lower end ones and liked them. I gave some of them away. I had a higher trim sonicare and an io that I liked both and kept them at different places. Then my then GF discover the action of them and she broke my sonicare. I’m wishing I’d have called them and told them the linkage from the body doesn’t do anything. I think if it was app enabled it would have likely shown on its black box recorder enough enamel and gum damaging pressure to knock out a tooth. That’s not likely covered. Good thing they don’t have cameras built in to them like the new earcleaners do.

  Sonicare no longer BIFL?

  I’ve had to get warranty replacements 2-3x in the last 4 years. The next time it breaks I’m getting Oral-B. I’ve had issues with the metal shaft that the brush head goes on coming loose and them coming out all together. I’m glad they’ve replaced the broken brush handles so far, but I doubt that’ll happen again.

  Which oral b electric toothbrush should I get?

  I like Oral b but the battery life is bad. I’ve had it 100% charged put it in my mouth 5 seconds later it is 0% and stopped covered in toothpaste. I had an expensive Io series 8. The app is useless in my opinion and adds a lot to the expense.  Quad timer is pretty useless to me, because I clean some areas way more (like back of bottom teeth) and I don’t pay equal attention to each quadrant.  Id get something with pressure warning. The two minute timer is somewhat helpful if you don’t brush long enough instinctively.   Paying over $100 US dollars probably isn’t worth it.  The apps are probably useful if you are new to brushing your teeth.  Bluetooth is also unnecessary, and probably wastes the battery quicker.

  Sonicare no longer BIFL?

  Quality has absolutely tanked. Brought my first in 2005, lasted until 2018, next only lasted until 2021. Got a replacement under warranty, lasted until December 2022. My daughters have children’s Sonicare brushes, and they consistently die every year or two. Suffice to say, I lived to OralB and haven’t looked back. I much preferred sonic toothbrushes, but a £250-300 toothbrush shouldn’t be a consumable product.

  Oral B vs Philips Sonicare - is the rounded electric toothbrush head better for you compared to the non-rounded?

  I have an Oral B that I converted to clean my hardscape in my aquariums. Used it for years fully submerged, literally unkillable, it's like 10 years old. Plus the Oral B i have now is at least 3 yeas old. Picked up a Sonic care on sale to try it out, switch it up. I don't like the vibrating holding it but not a deal breaker. My mouth feels cleaner than the Oral B, I kind of like going back to the way I used to brush my teeth way back when.I will keep using it until the brush heads run out, which is 6 I believe, and then make a decision. I got it super cheap black Friday so all good. Don't forget to floss everyday!

  Batteries can be replaced. Oral-B Braun series needs some simple soldering, but the iO series just pop it out and put a new one in. Bottom of the iO (and Braun) uses the charger base to pop off the end cap.  YouTube videos show how to do it.

  The old Oral-B toothbrushes were more robust. The new ones suffer water damage much more often. I'd just take a Pro 3, while they're still available. Philips has three weak points - battery, buttons and the metal vibrating shaft, which occasionally breaks and gets really loose. If it has to be a sonic brush, I'd give Panasonic a try.

  sonicare feels the cleanest, but I've been using my oral-b because it lasts.. I have been through 3 sonicares and not ready to take the plunge again until the braun dies. The head gets sloppy and wet but I've found if I rinse it while it's running and whip it it's better. If I got mold I'd take that as a sign to change the head. Some knockoff heads are more prone to this stuff.

  Had pressure warnings on both. The io3 has a different motion that is closer to the sonicare and higher frequency. It also has a color ring for better pressure that goes green for *enough* pressure, which is fun, and red for too much.

  I'll second oral B. I've owned a few and get 4-5 years out of each. For the record, I've tried replacing the batteries in both the oral b and the sonicare and both are very clearly designed to not be replaced. Would be so easy for them to redisgn the bottom for an easily replaceable battery.

  Oral B is my fav. I tried phillips sonicare and I dont love the brush head. I like a more circular one like Oral B because I have a easily triggered gag reflex. The soniare oval ish shape triggers my gag reflex when I get to the back and I cant get a good solid clean on my back teeth. But with oral b, i dont gag as much 😁 also, i like the circular motion vs the vibrating only in sonicare.

  I own a Sonicare, my girlfriend has an Oral-B. I was having issues with the Sonicare not cleaning my gumline that well, so tried out her Oral-B and it is far superior at cleaning the gumline. However I feel Sonicare is better at cleaning the flat surfaces of teeth better. I now use the Oral-B for nights, the Sonicare for mornings, but if I was to say go one over the other I would 100% recommend the Oral-B. Gumlines are super important to clean clean. Also, I do swap to a different brush head so we aren’t sharing the same one.

  Seconding Oral-B. My friends who used Sonicare had more dental issues despite doing everything they were supposed to. After switching to Oral-B, it got better. Apparently it's the way the brush heads move. Just need to make sure you clean per the Oral-B directions, and let the brush head and body fully dry before putting them back together.

  Most dentist recommend Oral-B by Braun toothbrushes. You don’t need the io version. Their regular one is great. The oscillating head of the oral-b is arguably better than the vibrating sonicare.

  I’ve been eyeing the Oral-B iO Series 10 for a while now, and it’s good to hear it actually lives up to the hype. I’ve been using a Philips Sonicare for years and it’s been solid, but I’m definitely intrigued by the iO’s tech and coaching features.   If you have one of the bluetooth/app models, it might be stuck "searching" for the app, thus constantly wasting power. I would try: * Connect toothbrush to the app. Allow app to update toothbrush firmware if applicable. * Disable bluetooth on the toothbrush. I don't have a bluetooth toothbrush, but I know that bluetooth devices wasting power is a thing that happens.

  I’d go with the Oral-B Pro 300 if you’ve had cavities before—it does a solid job cleaning. Pressure sensor is nice to have, but not a must if you brush gently and let the brush do the work.

  I'd always choose Oral-B over equivalent Phillips. I had a bunch of them (mine, kids' wife's) and none failed unless abused. And those weren't high-end. Pressure sensor seems a luxury, but if you are in a hurry, stressed, angry it's really easy to forget not to apply too much pressure and damage your enamel over time.

  What is your current BIFL item you recommend to everyone?

  Oral-B io series toothbrush, been using the same one for years now and nothing short of a good experience. The handles are made of aluminum and the battery is easily replaceable if it dies. I also tried the lower series Oral-B toothbrush with the rubber handles but those were terrible. They can get really moldy in humid environment.

  I've been a practicing dentist for 40 years. Whenever i see a new patient with heavy deposits of stain and bacteria on their teeth, I ask "what kind of toothbrush do you use?" If they say "electric", I ask "AAA batteries or recharges by plugging into a stand". An awful lot of em say "AAA batteries". I see it in my own mouth, I have an older model Oral B rechargeable... when I got it, my hygienist suddenly needed less time to do my 6 month visit to her.

  The most basic Oral-B toothbrush I bought over 15 years ago is just now starting to die. I bought it in high school, and my wife just bought one of a similar style but newer and they fit on the same charger. I can't fully vouch for the quality of new models, but if they're at least as good as they were 15 years ago, it's held up well.

  They are definitely not buy it for life. I had a Sonicare that was ok, better than a manual toothbrush, that died after 2-2,5 years. I replaced it with an Oral-B iO which I love. My teeth feel so clean, like I just had a professional cleaning clean. My sister's Oral B is 10+ years old, is used 3x/ day and is showing no signs of dying.

  I've had both Phillips and oral b from Costco and Phillips just feels better and last longer. I would recommend both. The only thing I would do research on is how expensive the toothbrush heads are. Also dentist and dental hygienist know the difference of you're using electric toothbrush or manual.

  Oral B and Sonicare are very similar in performance. Many tests and reviews have been done, proving that they perform the same. Have you noticed there are vibrating and orbiting sanders, because they both perform well at sanding.

  Dentist here, electric tooth brushes on average are going to last you 10 years. Batteries degrade sadly. I sell the Oral-b iO series II in my office because the circular brush head works best for most people and it doesn’t have the extra (un-needed) bells and whistles that often break more quickly. Please replace the brush head every 3 months or so too.  My favorite electric brush is a sample brush I got from a Swiss company, Curaprox. It’s stupid expensive though and doesn’t do anything better than the oral-b other than form factor.

  Make sure you stick with the circular toothbrush head. Recently got a new dental hygenist and she said "You know we use small round spinning brushed to clean your teeth, don't you think something similar to that would be the best?" Makes total sense. Gota costco special for two of the Oral-B ones that also tell you if you are pressing too hard. After a week of using it my teeth do feel much cleaner.

  What happened to Philips Sonicare quality control? Another toothbrush is toast after 2 years

  It is almost embarrassing how long I have had my Oral B. Maybe 14 years? We bought a twin pack at Sam’s - first electric toothbrush. Hubby’s Oral B died about 4 years ago. He bought a Sonicare. That one just died. A year ago, my mom passed and she had a fairly new Oral B  (sad cuz towards the end, she was so frustrated and couldn’t even push the button to start it) that I took bc mine’s battery wasn’t holding as well for trips. I gave him my old Oral B (which I had been using for grout 😂) til we get a new handset for him (how I landed here).  He does not clean the base ever. Head only gets changed when I pester him. Possibly why his die faster? That’s my experience.

  UPDATE: Even though the initial comments suggested Oral-B was the way to go, later comments recommended Philips Sonicare and as I had thought that it edged it, I decided to give it a go. However, after initially switching to a Philips Sonicare 4300 (same as 4100 but with a shaver plug charger), I decided it was NOT for me. It makes an annoying high-pitch sound, I'm prone to making a mess with it and the sensation when using it was very odd which I felt stopped me using it effectively. Therefore, it didn't do a greatjob cleaning. It'd also cut off all power at 2 mins which I didn't like as sometimes I miss areas and want to keep going for a little longer. I understand the risk of overbrushing etc but still. It also has a very small brushhead which didn't feel particularly effective. I've since opted for an Oral-B Pro 3 3500 (same as 3000/3900). Originally, I (like you maybe) was happy to "splash the cash" to get the BEST electric toothbrush or atleast the BEST value for money. Well this is, believe it or not. It may be cheap but it has all the essential features and does the best job as per [https://www.electricteeth.com/uk/](https://www.electricteeth.com/uk/). Remember not only are you spending more than necessary when you go for the Oral-B iO series, but really (just like with shavers) they aren't making all the money selling the toothbrush. They cash in selling the toothbrush heads! For the iO series, the toothbrush heads will set you back a hefty £6.50ea compared to £2.25ea. That's almost 3x the price! Which you'll pay like a monthly subscription for the next few years. My advice, be smart.   I go through about one Sonicare every two years. Meanwhile my wife and daughter are on like year 7 with their Oral B units. So get another Oral B if you liked the last one. The only reason I keep getting Sonicare is because I just like the high speed vibration more than the way Oral B brushes. I've learned that the more expensive Sonicare are no better nor better made so I just get a two-pack for $99 and use them til they break. I figure $25 per year is OK not counting the brush heads.

  I have two Oral-B toothbrushes. They both look identical, but I'm pretty sure they are different models. They are made in Germany and I dont use the stupid bluetooth features, but they work great for brushing teeth. One of them is an Oral-B Pro 3000 3D. It's white with a red arc on the top back, and the other looks the same. They feel very dense and sturdy. I have tried Phillips Sonicare, I think they were cheaper versions, but they were weak and didnt work very well and I broke one in a few months.if I got another Phillips Sonicare I'd only touch the expensive models.

  I like the Phillips products, but I’ve had bad luck with their batteries dying early. Oral-B on the other hand has been fabulous with regard to battery performance, but you need a somewhat special technique with those rotary brush heads. If you use it incorrectly, it will miss the crevices in between your teeth, leaving stains. Yeah, I heard about the special technique on YouTube about 10 years after I started using Oral-B. Basically you have to use a cupping motion around the tooth so you work the bristles in between the crevices.

  Tbh I would go with Oral B’s electric toothbrush, I’ve had mine since 2016 and it works perfectly still. Its not louder than it was before and my dentist is always impressed with how well I brush my teeth. Also, my dentist told me that the rotating action of the Oral B is better than the vibrations of the Sonicare, which is why I went with Oral B in the first place. I have a more expensive one with miltiple modes, but my bf has the cheapest, most basic one he got about 5 years ago, it still works great.

  My Oral B Pro is still going strong after 8 years. I will say, I don't keep it on the charger unless it's on low battery. I probably used to get me like 2-3 weeks on a charge and now it's like 10–14 days. I will keep it until it can't hold the 2-minute charge need to brush.   I watched a few seemingly independent small YouTubers and if it’s anything low end Oral B or Sonicare or better, it’s like within a 1-2% difference in quality of tooth brushing. The person even showed some of those cheaper $20 Oral B ones with the double head and it was way better than manual brush. Not to say that manual is bad, just the mid range tooth brushes are better.

  I just did a lot of research on this. [Electric Teeth website](https://www.electricteeth.com/best-electric-toothbrush/) has all sorts of fantastic reviews and comparisons on anything you want to know about electric toothbrushes. Summary: I just bought a Sonicare 4100 for myself and Oral B Smart 1500 for my wife. These are the top recommended models by electric teeth. Other info: I’ve had sonicare brushes for many years and like them. Sonicare is quieter than Oral B. Oral B several models are made in Germany. Oral B IO series are quieter than the non IO series. Oral B brush heads are susceptible to developing mold because the holes in the head whereas sonicare doesn’t have any issues with that. However even after rinsing the head after each time, the IO series are especially susceptible to developing mold growth in the heads. Non IO series don’t have as much of an issue with mold but still slightly more possibility than sonicare which is close to zero chance because of no holes in head. SURI have a seemingly major design flaw in that there are exposed charging contacts on the base of brush that can corrode when wet and ruin the charging ability. Several reports of this. On a bathroom counter top there is going to be water on it frequently. Those are my thoughts.

No special skills or equipment needed, still takes the same heads as any other oral b and has the same motion. Your sonicare does cost too much. So does your wife's oral b.

  This is true, but Oral B still reigns superior imo. It’s not worth getting the iO or any of the other highly sophisticated ones. Just get another basic one.   I've been very happy moving away from Sonicare to an Oral-B iO6. I think the brush head and action cleans better while being easier on my teeth. I also like how it lets me know if I'm brushing too hard or too softly, and the guided brushing seems accurate. It says "good morning/night" when I pick it up, it and smiles/frowns depending on how long I brush. It also has a customizable RGB light ring, so it all together offers a premium feeling experience with good cleaning. These features aren't totally unique, but I'd go with the best iO you can get. I paid about $100 for the base setup and two brush heads, and have a $30 2-pack of brush heads delivered automatically every 6 months.

  Dentist here, I greatly prefer Oral B 😂 They’re toothbrushes, and both damn good products, either is fine. But the latest meta analysis says the oscillating heads do a better job that the “sonic” vibrations. I’d argue at this point it’s gotten so good that it’s really up to who’s holding the brush and not what brand is on the handle!

  I am a big fan of the oral-b - it works by combining both the vibration of sonicare and physical rotation. It also has a better shape for cleaning the teeth, conforming to each individual tooth. Something a lot of people mess up with these brushes: you are not meant to scrub your teeth like with a manual, but hold it to each surface of the tooth and allow it to clean - it does the best job in my experience! There are cheaper versions, but I prefer the oral-b technology. (Former certified dental assistant and toothbrush enthusiast, for whatever that might be worth).

  What is a better buy: Oral B Pro Series or Oral B iO Series?

  **UPDATE after 3 months:** \- I have the WHITE color of the Series 4, and I knew to be very mindful of keeping the brush and brush head dry after each use from reading some posts/comments about mold. I dry the entire brush and keep the brush head detached until I use it again. I even vigorously shake it out to hopefully remove any water inside. But even so, I did notice significant mold build up deep INSIDE the brush head after about 2.5 months or so. Since I have the white color you can easily see it. It's not easy to clean since it's deep inside; I used my kitchen sink spray to clean it out - which was disgusting but satisfying to see. There was still a bit of mold afterwards, but it was time to change my brush head anyway. \- During Black Friday, I bought *black* replacement brush heads only because they were significantly cheaper on promo than the white color. I mention this because given the mold point above, you might want to consider an iO toothbrush in any other color that's NOT black otherwise you may not see possible mold inside. \- The 'Gentle Care' head came inside the box; I bought the 'Ultimate Clean' replacement heads. Given that I have gum recession, I DO notice the difference in softness of both types, and I **much prefer the Gentle Care brush head.**

  I"m Trying to decide between this selection of older models of Oral B-electric toothbrushes.

  We have 4 Oral B electrics in the house (3 different models). My daughters have Pro Juniors from a couple of years ago (pretty cheap, about £40 each when we got them on some sale I think), I have some top end model, also from a couple of years ago, with Bluetooth and who knows what else (£100+, can't remember exactly), and my wife very recently got a low-end Vitality Pro (£25 in the sales). Do you want to know the truth of it? They all do exactly the same damned job. If anything the heads make more of a difference to the experience, and you can by them separately to get whichever you like, since the 'spindle' is, as far as I'm aware, standard across all bodies (or get 3rd party heads, if you like saving money!). All 3 have timers. The novelty of the 'smart' features on mine wore off after about a month, & I never touched them again. They all easily pass the 4 day charge mark, even those that are several years old. The only thing the cheaper one is missing is the pressure sensor, but honestly I'm not massively convinced that's useful either... maybe if you know you're inclined to pressing too hard, but if not just be sensible & let the brush work for you. If I were you I'd just go for the cheapest model you can find with the pressure sensor (if that's essential to you), then maybe try out a few different heads over the following months to settle on a style you like.

  I"m Trying to decide between this selection of older models of Oral B-electric toothbrushes.

  i'm on my second Pro 1000. first one lasted at least four years. current one was purchased in 2019 and still going strong. i didn't to the right thing, and just left it on the charger day and night... but in the last couple months have righted my ways and started only charging it when the red light flashes. i get 5 days out of the charge, and this is after abusing the battery for years! they are \*made in Germany\* btw. and not expensive. i would highly recommend a Pro 1000. oh, and i've had success with off-brand heads. and a tip: remove the head and either let it dry apart from the body, or rest it loosely on the body so air can thoroughly dry it. when it inevitably does get gunked up, soak it in some hydrogen peroxide! cleans right up. i've had heads last more than a year.

They clean your teeth just as well as the more expensive models.

  Best electric toothbrush?

  I was an early adopter of the sonic care, it was great and my daily toothbrush for 9-10 years before it crapped. Replaced with a mid tier oral B electric and have been using that for \~2 years, held up great so far and much cheaper than the sonic care. I don’t expect it to last as long as the sonic care as the build quality doesn’t appear to be as good, but with the significant discount for the oral B, I’d be happy with either.

  oral b has better data for how well it cleans, neither last particularly long b/c of the rechargeable battery, if you get 7yr thats not terrible, youll notice it will hold a charge less and less as it ages, oral b io is top of the heap for quality hygiene but you pay a premium for the brusheads

  Your choice will probably depend on which one you prefer on your teeth. The 2 top choices clean in a different way: sonicare cleans by vibrating, and oral b cleans by bristle movement. I prefer Oral B, my SO prefers sonicare. As for reliability, I believe Oral B will last you longer based on my personal experience and the comments in this thread.

  The quality Braun Oral B, but Made in Germany with various settings, is pretty nice. I like it more than the Phillips Sonicare, and much much more than the normal Braun Oral B that isn't made in Germany. I have one of these Oral B Pro 3000 toothbrushes. Mine is Made in Germany, been using it for a few years. It is very strong. I like it much more than the cheaper Oral Bs and the Phillips Sonicare, which I have tried since getting it, but its no competition..

  IO is miles ahead in efficacy and technology.  Do not buy pro models if you need iO cleaning experience. I have all the models they ever released. All of the oral b ones. Best is iO...I have iO8. I suggest you get an iO3 since bluetooth is not that necessary

  I have an Oral B (not sure if the model) with different modes and settings, and the only one I ever use in real life is on/off. Maybe you're not like me, but the idea of changing settings on a tooth rush just feels like a gimmick and/or something I'm not qualified to understand. The electric toothbrush industry seems to have picked up some steam recently and is capitalizing on the hype. My advice would be to get the $50 Oral B or similar that WalMart carries and use it for 15+ years like I did.

  I don’t think it matters between the two big brands: oral-b or sonicare. My wife has one and I have the other. Both have lasted a long time. Our dentists don’t care other than they prefer electric over non electric. Usually the difference between the various models within those two brands are features that don’t matter that much.   Its less about the brand - OralB or Sonic care. Research shows they both clean similarly. What you need to focus on is looking at the latest models and determining which of the mid tier models have the same motor as the high end models. For example, for Oral B, that is the amount of pulsations per minute. I believe the IO6+ all have the same motor. So the IO7, 8, 9, and 10 you are paying for features, not better cleaning. The IO1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 all have a weaker motor. So once you know that, then ask yourself which features are important. My guess is that for most people, they just need 1 feature - normal clean mode. As far as lasting forever, the batteries do die just like anything else. Expect your toothbrush to last 2-10 years. Yeah huge variation there but it is what it is. Look for sales on amazon/walmart. Electric toothbrushes are worth it. You can also find generic toothbrush heads and you do need to replace every 3 months so factor that into your purchase.

  I can't remember exactly when, but approx 15 years ago, I got a braun 4729 (oral-b), it's simple, efficient, no fancy function, and it just won't die, i'll replace the head when needed, and the battery will still last more than enough time for a good brushing. It's unfortunately not sold anymore apparently though, so I could advice oral-b, but I guess it might not be built as it was then.

  Mine just died after 6 years. My gf went through two of them in like a year before switching to another brand. So probably quality control plays a hand in the cheap costs. I just ordered a oral b as a replacement, also fairywill is not a brand anymore on Amazon, but there are other brands on Amazon that look identical for cheap costs.

  We switched to oral-b. I think it gets my teeth cleaner than sonicare and brushes are less expensive and more interchangeable between models. Costco has a 2 pack for $89 of one of the nicer models. I gave these to our adult children for Christmas 😀

  None last forever, you're lucky to get 5 years out of one. Sonicare and Oral B are both great but pricey. Amazon has occasional deals on Bitvae electric brushes with 8 replacement heads for like $15. It's your best bet.
