Best men's clothing brand that isn't outrageously expensive?
Am impoverished and disabled and was gifted an Orvis blue/white plaid long sleeve button down and it added to the inspiration to overcome everything, just so that I can buy and wear more of these clothes.

Does anyone know of a jacket this general style that you can still buy these days that is tough as hell?
Check out the Noah Mechanics Jacket or the Ben Davis mechanic jacket. Quaker Marine Supply Co. Brighton Jacket is wool but similar style. The Orvis weather breaker is a step up from lands end. Close but similar is the Dehen pilot jacket but there is only blue right now.

If you started your wardrobe over from scratch, what would you buy? (US)
Wool, cotton, silk, cashmere, alpaca. Natural fibers constructed well. I would focus only on classic brands I love that hold up forever: Pendleton, LL Bean, Orvis, Duluth, Barbour, Levis, Ralph Lauren, Max Mara, St. John, Lafayette 148, some Brooks Brothers, vintage Armani. I would thrift more. I would buy more classic basics. Wish I would have known about fabrics and good construction in my 20s.

Why is it so hard to find well-made clothes that aren't insanely priced?
I found so many Orvis Big Bear flannels thrifting. The best heavy weight flannels I’ve tried in my 42 years.

Why is it so hard to find well-made clothes that aren't insanely priced?
I only discovered Orvis 2 years ago and I'm a big fan now. I found some Jackson quick dry pants for a great price and ended up buying 5 pairs in 3 colors. I realize I probably only needed 2 or 3

Why is it so hard to find well-made clothes that aren't insanely priced?
I love Orvis. I was so sad when the store near me closed. Everything I've bought from there has lasted 8+ years - unfortunately, that means I didn't buy there often, because I don't need new stuff all the time. It's a shame that companies producing quality products cannot compete with cheap shit because people can't afford to spend $60 on a polo shirt that will last them 5-10 years instead of $20 on a shirt that lasts 1-2.

Why is it so hard to find well-made clothes that aren't insanely priced?
Patagonia, Marmot, Orvis, LLBean (admittedly hit or miss), Barbour, Eileen Fisher (for women), check Irish import stores. Look at thrift stores for older Brooks Brothers, Ralph Lauren, Banana Republic, even Gap.

My belt got rubbed off after a short backpacking trip. What belt do you have that lasts?
I have a decade old Orvis belt made of “Horween” leather. It’s perfect. Sadly, Orvis doesn’t sell anything like it anymore.

Looking for a thick, soft blanket for my bed
Have ones we got from Costco this past winter that are made by Orvis. It's called their cozy lux throw. They were maybe 20 dollars but have been awesome. Doubt they still have them but we have seen similar from them still.

What brands do you trust to always deliver a high quality product?
Orvis and Olukai! I’m always tough on my clothes and shoes but these brands have lasted so much longer than any of my other clothes and shoes

What brands do you trust to always deliver a high quality product?
Orvis fishing gear is still pretty top notch and they stand behind all their products. But some of the clothing I tend to agree with you

comfortable flannel shirts that fit well?
Thick Eddie Bauers from the late 90s / early 2000s at the thrift store; Vermont Flannel Co; Orvis; Field & Stream. The last two not "fashionable names" but heavy, super durable, & relatively inexpensive.

Flannel shirts that last
I really like the thicker Orvis ones. They have like 20 different varieties of flannel though so I always buy them in person.

Dog beds that are also aesthetically pleasing??
I came on here to say Orvis as well. Best dog beds. But I would get a large bed for a labrador.

Dog beds that are also aesthetically pleasing??
Orvis dog beds are the best. I got my Golden the Orvis Memory Foam Deluxe. Expensive but it is the only one you'll ever need.

Request: A waterproof, cold weather hat.
I use one of these with the hood of my waterproof breathable carhartt up if it's pouring. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002ZG7RGM/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_2wWxwbARMHDN8 Edit: just remembered that my dad swears by this waxed cotton cap that is wool lined with earflaps... He got it from Cabella's 15 years ago. This was the closest thing I could find: m.orvis.com/store/product.aspx?pf_id=13x2
