LOVE this. I have the same - it was my parents, and the original blades wore out (part of the carafe) so got a replacement on ebay. This thing has an engine!

1970's. Loud but will last virtually forever. I always take them apart, clean, check the brushes, and oil the wickings at each end with Zoomspout Turbine oil if putting one of these into regular service. Recently had my cheapo modern blender die and wanted something more BIFL. Hopped on the ol' eBay to get it. Behold, the Osterizer 847 from 1972! What can I say? I'm a sucker for avocado green. Made sure the blades were sharp enough and have been making smoothies in my kitchen since no problem.
I ended up buying a similar 847 after seeing this post. You know what they say about imitation!

Got the same one, you can still buy replacement pitchers, blades, gaskets etc and the blade base screws on a standard mason jar like a bullet blender

My 94 year old mother still has her Osterizer from 1972 and it gets the job done for the most part. I had to buy my wife a $400 Vitamix a few years ago because her everything-but-the-sink breakfast smoothies was killing the modern cheapos annually.

Name your top 5 BIFL items
1. G&L ASAT electric guitar (27 years). Very nice, well-built American-made guitar, but not ornate or outlandishly expensive. I got this new in the late 1990s, still play it daily, and expect to keep it as long as I live. 2. Rivendell Bleriot bicycle (15 years, bought used). Nice steel-framed bicycle that's great on pavement or gravel. I expect this bike to outlast me as long as I don't wreck it and can still get parts to maintain it. 3. Merkur safety razor (6 years, bought used). I never expect to need to buy another razor. 4. 12" Lodge cast iron skillet (10 years, bought used). I traded a 6-pack of beer for this when a housemate was moving out. 5. Osterizer classic blender (29 years). I got this as a wedding gift and it's outlasted the marriage by well over a decade.

What's one item you've owned for years that's still going strong-and was totally worth the money?
May have two Osterizer blender. One for 9 years and other for 7 years. One for me and one for my husband, we use them daily. Best pcurchase ever!

What is your favorite category of BIFL products?
It definitely depends on the electronic. We inherited an old Osterizer blender and that thing is awesome. I think the problem for electronics is they can very much be BIFL but they can also be very quickly outdated.

This Imperial Osterizer Dual Cycle Pulse Magic blender was a wedding gift to my parents in August 1971. It has been making pesto, mayonnaise and daiquiris faithfully for 49 years.
I have this exact model, my mother purchased it in 1971. It is awesome I use it almost every single day and half so since I got it 25 years ago. Mixing smoothies every morning and never ever having an issue. I wish they made everything like this today, but apparently they don’t have the ability anymore. Lol.

1960's Osterizer blender - used at least once a week for the past 60 years
I was 18 when I bought my Osterizer blender. Im 73. Since I was about 53, I have used thus blender almost daily to blend fruit and vegtables for me to drink. I had gone through 2 Nutribullets before I resorted to my blender. The " smoothies" are the same. I have no idea why anyone would buy a juicer when a blender is so much easier to use, clean and wastes no part of the food. Or, wgy buy a Nutribullet when you have a blender. I was duped into thinking it was superior somehow extracting nutrients. Nope!
