Just bought this beautiful mahogany writing desk for cheap! But the leather is stained or maybe the colour rubbed off. Does anyone know of any way to fix this?
This is the correct answer. Saddle soap, but an all natural one like Otter Wax, without the yellow dyes and all the chemical crap. However…I don’t know what a writing desk is…saddle soap will soften the leather. If that’s not your intention, get a straight “leather conditioner”. The folks over at r/leathercraft may be of some help too!

Army surplus waxed canvas restoration
Otter wax, grangers wax, bars, can, I’ve used them all. It’s pretty hard to mess up. If you over wax it your product will look leathery. You can carefully scrape the excess of with something soft and dull like a paint stick. Or you can leave it if you like the look. Over time the over waxed areas will shed the excess and return to normal. I find over waxed is more water repellent. It’s not rocket surgery.
