  I came here to say this. My Paka hoodie is my favorite piece of clothing. It’s so soft. I’ve got them for all my family, and everyone is obsessed with them. They are in OPs general price range.

  You could try alpaca! There’s a brand called Paka that has some base layers. I promise this isn’t an advertisement, merino wool makes me itchy too, so I’ve been looking at alternatives too

  Paka brand is great! My husband accidentally got me a sweater from them last Christmas (he meant to order from *Pacas* — we wear their alpaca wool socks and love them). It is my favorite item of clothing, I wish I had all the monies and I’d replace all the clothes I own with alpaca wool.

  I see a lot of people suggesting wool, but I’d like to specifically recommend alpaca. It’s lighter, softer, AND warmer than sheep wool, very durable, and manmade fabrics have yet to beat the performance of thousands of years of evolution.   If you want like a puffy style , duck worth and paka make wool batting filled jackets that's loft for warmth with a lower weight. But a new deck jacket , a peacoat or great coat are otherwise your warmest jackets.

  [Merino 365](https://merino365.co.nz/) is a great company out of New Zealand, they do socks, as well as the best base layers.. they have thumb loops! If you are looking for wool, [Paka](https://www.pakaapparel.com/) does alpaca wool items from Peru. They have socks too, and their items are so comfortable. I have a sweater from them, and one undershirt, it's the softest shirt I've ever felt.

  Paka. Extremely breathable and soft, I've largely split my sock drawer between Paka for warmer days/sneakers and Darn Tough cushioned for boots/colder weather.

  Bought some Darn Tough Socks and can never see myself going back

  I wear Paka, they’re not inexpensive but I haven’t had a pair fail yet and they have a similarly generous replacement policy. They even sent me a new pair because I found the thermal version a little too stretchy in an unlined leather boot so it would bunch up

  Looking for a warm jacket

  Paka makes some very very warm alpaca wool clothing. Their Breathe zip hoodie has the warmth you’d need for driving, the thumb holes on the sleeves, and is very very lightweight for the warmth. It is not much of a thick shell, but is very warm for the weight.

  3 in 1 winter jacket?

  I have a PAKA jacket. Hoodie accommodates a helmet, built in neck/lower face shield, zippered armpits. Alpaca fleece so not too bulky. With baselayers, rated from -40deg F to 50 degrees F. Around $350ish. Discovered through this subreddit. Thanks, fellow Redditors.
