I left my Petzl Tactikka Core Headlamp charging overnight and it’s still red. Do they really only last 2 years?
Probably. If they're cycled all the way down it can speed up the degeneration process. You're not likely using it enough to know it needs charged. I've got several from probably 15 years ago that work perfectly, just pop a couple AAA batteries in and forget about it. Some things shouldn't have rechargeable batteries and things that aren't used daily is one.

Camping suggestions?
Headlamp is probably my favorite piece of gear, because it gives you light were you need it and allows free hands. I like Petzl, get one that has a low and high mode, I also like a red light mode to preserve nightvision but not critical. Useful around the house too.
