  Choosing a cat water fountain

  We have had two Pioneer Ceramic Drinking Fountains "Big Max" 128 oz for almost 10 years now.  They are very durable and survived two moves. One time, a basin developed a crack. I emailed the company and they sent me an entirely new fountain. It's easy to clean the ceramic pieces in the dishwasher. Any calcium build up from the water can be soaked off with vinegar or citric acid. The clamshell for the pump can go in the dishwasher, too. The pump itself comes apart for easy cleaning. I use the Petsafe brand fountain cleaning brushes to be very thorough. The one thing I'll say is that even though it's on a surge protector, a power outage will kill the fountain pumps. However, they are inexpensive to replace.

  Something you didn’t expect to be BIFL but outlasted your expectations?

  A pair of pioneer rain pants I bought 30 years ago. Non breathable but very waterproof, I've had years of bike commuting with them. Ankles starting to wear but otherwise these have held up well

  Check out Hard Off stores - they're like thrift shop heaven for electronics and you can definitely find some solid Pioneer or Yamaha units within that budget

  my two linksys routers' led's got so dim you cant see them unless all other lights are off, in just 6 months... now i just use them as 1gig splitters, but damn it was annoying for 4+ years of having to cup my hands to see if shit was connected or not. i always liked pioneers' stuff, i still rock HDJ-2000 cans in (yellowed) white for rockin out (WIRED!!! BLUETOOTH SUCKS!), and had nothing but Pioneer HU's in my sports cars (AVIC D3 was WAY ahead of its time and STILL better than most new $1000 HU's) and always will.

  I’m still rocking a 1986 Pioneer. I think I paid $15 and it works perfectly. The only issue is the led light on the volume dial is now so dim it’s useless.

  My stereo system is mostly 70s, Pioneer and Kenwood receivers, JBL speakers and Technics 1200 turntable. Still functional with some light maintenance over the years.

  I'm looking for a vinyl player

  Hey, i’m a record ‘snob’, and i would like to add that if you want a quality turntabe, you will get a better deal, and a much better product from a vintage one. The only problem with this is that you will need a stereo system to hook it up to. Will run you probably $200 from ebay/ a used shop, or as low as literally like 20 bucks at a market/ trade forum. Happens a lot, because nobody listens to records anymore. My best advice is to look for a turntable with a counterbalance on the arm, because any turntable without one is not great for your records. Technics, Dual, Pioneer, and about a million others all make good equipment, As for a stereo, it doesnt really matter as long as it has a Phono (low level, magnetic signal) input, and has a good pair of speakers. If you just want to buy a disk that has your favorite band/artist’s music carved into it just for the fun of it, then just get yourself the literal cheapest thing you can find. It will in fact damage your records, but they will just sound kinda fuzzy after a few dozen plays.

  I’m thinking of purchasing aquasana products. Anyone have this?

  Having just spent many many hours researching water filters I’m going to post a long comment… my town water developed huge PFAS issues over last year and I did a ton of research for Aquasana and others as well as called a few companies for quotes. Each company I called had their own suggestions and designs ranging from $3 for one simple 20” filter that was $300 on Amazon and not close to enough filtration - $10k for 2 tanks that act wash each day and have UV lights. The best ones were all selling they remove 97% pfas and meet NSF standards however those standards were set to get drinking water down to 70ppb (the EPA target at the time). A few years ago those limits dropped to 20ppb, (still unsafe) with targets to lower the limits to 5ppb over the next few years. The NSF standards haven’t yet been updated. I found one company called Pioneer (empress) that makes a large filter canister that can fit a variety of cartridges the sell based on your needs. One filter cartridge they make is independently to get 100% pfas elimination, but it’s expensive, and no one sold it around me so I did a DIY. They make 2 of these universal tanks, the E3 (which takes more standard filters of various micron sizes like activated carbon for standard junk in water and to improve taste) https://www.enpress.com/site/project/cartridge-tank-filtration-system/ Then they make the E3-M filter that has a flow meter to track the amount of water that has passed thru it and lights to indicate when it’s getting close to require a change. They say this canister is required for their expensive certified filters like those that remove PFAS and Lead etc. They want you to only use the high end filters with the meter as after they have reach their designed limit of volume (100-300k Gal) they need to be changed to avoid the filters releasing the junk they’ve been storing). This is the exact same as the regular tank above except for the flow meter. Had I known this I would have saved some $ and just bought 2 of the regular canisters and monitor my water meter for usage and change when needed. https://www.enpress.com/site/project/pioneer-filtration/ It took me about 12 hrs to install. I plumbed a 20” pentair big blue canister a simple pre-filter cartridge to keep anything simple out of the water before it gets to the expensive filters. Then a pioneer blue 3 micron carbon filter, and the pioneer PF PFAS filter. Finally I did another pentair 20” canister with an activated carbon filter as a post filter I case any byproducts come out of the PFAS filter (probably overkill). I did it all with pex, and a 3 ball valves so I can bypass the entire system if needed. All-in, I spent around $4,000 ($1500 on the PFAS cartridge alone!) on all of the materials. I bought the tanks and cartridges from tradewindswater.com as they had the best prices. TLDR: did a ton of water filter research, aquasana, kleenwater, springwell, etc all were pretty much the same activated carbon filters that take some of the common items out of water but don’t address the most growing concern (PFAS) and their claims to meet standards are valid however the standards are out of date. I ended up DIYing and got a better system for 1,000s less than other options.

  Best over the ear headphones for less than $150?

  I use my Pioneer HDJ-1500s for flights and traveling. Not sure of they'll fit the bill but, they sound good.
