Thanks for the reply. Very helpful. I think she might prefer a pocketbook then. She doesn’t care about any Kindle feature and is not a big fan of being locked into Amazon. She just wants to try an e-reader and just mentioned a kindle cause it has the brand name she has heard before. Hoping she can use Libby and the local library membership to save money on buying physical book on less she really likes them.

Ask her if this could be an alternative first, before buying. Maybe she likes a certain thing about the kindles! The PocketBook supports any kind of file, has an own cloud and app for phone. You can buy a book from any site (including Amazon as well) in any format and send it to the device to read on. Back in the day I used to have issues getting my ebooks from bookstores on my kindle. Not sure if it's still that way now. For me the main thing is being independent from Amazon. I don't support it and this reader made it easier for me to find options If she reads a lot and wants a subscription for books (like the kindle unlimited) then this device isn't the right thing. I am sure you can find some kindle users in the comments that can tell you more about the difference since I only used one of the very first kindles. I am sure they developed as well

I love mine! Between Libby and the seven seas I have enough content without supporting Bezos anymore than I have to. Amazon has a “send to Kindle” site that will convert an .EPUB to their format free and easily. And iOS will share directly from files to Kindle converting it automatically too
