What BIFL mistakes have you made?
While I do have some Darn Tough socks that seem to live up to the longevity claims, I prefer the fit of Point6 socks, and they seem to also last a long time

Merino wool base layers - which are the most durable?
point6 makes great quality stuff at reasonable prices. love their quarter zip. merino will never be as durable as synthetic. If you walk on concrete in socks or rub your long sleeve arms on scratchy surfaces or high heat dry constantly, they will wear out quick. but if treated reasonably, merino can last long enough to more than justify its price.

What are the up-and-coming companies known for quality goods?
Happily, Patagonia remains great. Other excellent brands I’ve found include Evergoods backpacks/bags, the Point 6 socks mentioned above, Wigwam socks, and Unbound clothing.

Socks not working out
Consider checking out point 6. I’ve given up on bombas, darn tough, and smart wool. Point 6 is back to basics and I think are the original founders of smart wool. They are also American made.

Bombas Socks have really let me down. Any recommendations welcome!
Point6. They are made by the original creators of SmartWool. The first pair I purchased over ten years ago are still in good shape despite wearing them an average of once a week.

Bombas Socks have really let me down. Any recommendations welcome!
I tried a couple different brands after not liking Bombas. I started getting some bad foot odor, and Bombas kind of made it worse so I started looking for merino wool. Darn tough were solid, and like others have mentioned have a warranty, but I settled on Point6. They have a lot of different blends of different thicknesses, so I was able to cover all my bases with them- some for working out, some for wearing around during warm or cold weather, etc. I've had good experience with Point6 so far and would recommend them.

Bombas Socks have really let me down. Any recommendations welcome!
Point6 makes great socks, Darn Tough has a good ultralight sock as well but I've found all their items shrink and tear pretty quickly even when washing instructions are followed exactly.

Farm to Feet, and Point 6 are both fantastic marino wool sock brands.

Point6 is my go-to. Never found another sock that can compare

Bombas Socks have really let me down. Any recommendations welcome!
Darn tough, expensive but worth it. Also, Peter Duke, the guy that started Smartwool, made a new company called Point6. I have several pairs for work (compression) and some normal socks. Great so far, no issues after a year.

Bombas Socks have really let me down. Any recommendations welcome!
Also a huge fan of Point6 and never really like the Darn Tough socks I bought. May have been a factor of the thickness I bought and I found my feet sweat too much in the Darn Tough ones and they got rather smelly.

Bombas Socks have really let me down. Any recommendations welcome!
Afaik that's correct. Smartwool creators sold their business / had various investors and lost control of it. Started up Point6.

Lover of Point6 here but I didn't realize Costco was offering Merino options. I'll have to check them out! Thanks!

Bombas Socks have really let me down. Any recommendations welcome!
I personally didn't really like darn tough when I tried them, but I think the ones I bought were just too thick / heavy? Smartwool was great and I own 6 or 7 pairs but recently (well, like 2 years ago) learned the original creators of Smartwool started Point6 and now I buy all my socks from them. Extremely happy with Point6, price-wise, performance-wise, comfort-wise, etc.

Bombas Socks have really let me down. Any recommendations welcome!
While Darn Tough seems to be everyone’s favorite, I prefer Point6. I bought a few pairs from each brand, really liked the Point6, then went back to fill my sock drawer.

Bombas Socks have really let me down. Any recommendations welcome!
Darn tough are a great choice. However, I have wide feet and find them a bit tight at times. Check out Point6 and if you’re a Costco member the Kirkland Merino wool fit nicely as well.

Can anyone standby this product or recommend it ? (Smartwool beanie)
Smartwool isn’t pure merino anymore. The founders of that company started a new one (Point6) with better quality gear [Buy the single or double layer beanie from them instead](https://point6.store/collections/accessories)

Bombas Socks are not BIFL quality
Darn Tough are great but feel a bit tight on my feet. I recommend looking into Point6. High quality socks that fit me better.

Best everyday socks for sweaty feet?
I wear my Point6 wool socks year 'round going on 2 years now: they're fantastic! IIRC, they're from the same crew that started Smartwool?

Best everyday socks for sweaty feet?
Smartwool or point6 I find alpaca more airy in summer but don’t own too many to comment overall feedback where as smartwool I’ve used for 25 years and have 30 pair in active rotation depending on the season and activity. (4 season living with adventuring)

For the love of god, where can I buy some ankle socks that don’t get holes in them in a month?
Point6 is good if you want merino wool, especially since they have substantial discounts. They're the people who originally started Smartwool.

Half of my darn tough socks have holes in them
I have personal experience with Icebreaker and Point6. I would like to try Wigwam as a lot of people like them and they have a cool looking wool/silk blend I'd like to try, but a person can only have so many socks lol.

BIFL Socks that ARENT darn tough?
I bought 12 pairs of point6 pickleball socks over a year ago and they look like brand new.

BIFL Socks that ARENT darn tough?
I've been buying Point6 merino wool socks and it's been a game changer for eliminating foot odor. I bought a pair of Darn Tough to compare and I prefer Point6.

These Smartwool socks lasted me less than a month…
I have a similar experience with Smartwool. And I have way too many pairs from the promos on their website... But it's not worth it. I have Wigwam, Darn Tough, Fox River, Point 6, etc... All are in pretty good shape but I only have problems with Smartwool.

What are some BIFL brands that are manufactured cradle to grave in the USA?
Just as good as Point6, DarnTough, and SmartWool. I like their tactical line that doesn’t have the added padding (lumps) on top of sock. They have some older hiker models that also don’t have added padding. When I want a slightly looser sock I where F2F. The others, I mentioned, can be a little tight at times. F2F also changed their warranty to copycat DarnTough’s warranty. They also make ‘Patagonia’ branded merino wool socks. Patagonia brand is highly respected for quality, so F2F must be doing something right.
