  Second this I got my [Powerblocks Elite Exp Dumbbells](https://www.reddit.com/user/Embarrassed_Fly_9569/comments/1ndrko0/best_adjustable_dumbbells_to_buy/) 6 months ago and they are still the best one I got. would recommend it highly for home workouts. Also, [Nuobells](https://www.reddit.com/user/Embarrassed_Fly_9569/comments/1ndrko0/best_adjustable_dumbbells_to_buy/) are great option too.

  Other than the Ironmaster style, and the inexpensive starlock 1" screw handles, or 2" Olympic style handles, there aren't any that are BIFL. The quicker you can change weight, the more parts there are to go wrong. The Powerblocks get an honorable mention, because they're relatively simple.

  Power block is really solid but I couldn’t deal with the way you have to hold them. I used Core Home dumbbell for about a year before switching to free weights but they were ok, but not sure they’d last.

  The Bowflex ones have been awful for years. The company I was with stopped stocking them in 2013 because they were dropping on people’s faces back then too. Powerblocks were always the standard in my eyes. They look a bit funky but they work great.

  5 years on a basic Powerblock kit. Both of us use it 2-3 times a week each. Upgraded to the pro stuff 2 years ago while using the basic ones for lower weight ranges. Highly recommended

  I have power blocks. Before that I had the bowflex ones for a decade. I prefer the power blocks for durability and grip. Bowflex ones have a rubber grip thing that gets loose over time and plastic parts that break. One downside to the power blocks is they can get bent and then plates will stick even when not locked in. It’s easy enough to identify but would be dangerous if you don’t notice. I wouldn’t recommend dropping any of them. For dropping get rubber coated dumbbells. Anything with moving parts it’s going to break if dropped hard enough. Powerblock bend though, so they can take a few small drops. Bowflex snap because they are plastic.

  Power blocks absolutely have the potential to be the longest lasting dumbbells due to how simple they are (with the exception of true adjustables with collars). Besides things like goblet squats, where you need to hold the dumbbell differently, the grip is a non issue and actually helpful for things where you need to hold on better.

  Can second this. Had my first set of powerblocks for a decade, working out 3-4 times per week consistently. Wanted to upgrade from 50lbs to higher, sold my initial set on FB marketplace for like 70% of msrp and bought a new set, this time with a stand. Super solid, with the obviously pre-mentioned grip limitations.

  I’ve had PowerBlocks for a couple of years and they’re super solid. No fancy stuff, just reliable and durable. The selector pin is easy once you get used to it. Dropped them a few times and no issues. Definitely worth it if you want something that lasts.

  Don't ever buy the adjustable dumbbell set from My Gym USA. They broke within the first month I had them and the customer service from the company (My Gym USA) was nonexistent. Wish I'd known as they were expensive and a waste of my $$$ and time. Bought the power blocks and they work great

  Of old school : Powerblock, feel most like gym dumbbells, are indestructible and can go up to like 160 lbs. but, they’re slow to change weights. Of newer models Nuobell at Trulap arereally nice , if you don’t need more than 80 or 90 lbs, respectively

  Best Adjustable Dumbbells

  I can only speak to my own experience, but I'm happy to share. I purchased mine (Powerblock Elite EXP) about a year ago, and use them 4-6 days a week. I also own the first expansion that brings the max per dumbbell from 50 to 70 pounds. I won't hesitate to buy the 70 to 90 pound addition when I eventually, hopefully, need to. As far as wear and tear, there has been a little chipping on the paint, but they have otherwise held up very well. I have a floor pad and don't tend to throw them around, admittedly. Initially I was concerned about the durability of the plastic clip that you use to change the weights, but have had no real issues. And in practice, changing the weight is faster and more efficient than other adjustable dumbbells I have used, which is great.

  These things are fantastic! I’ve had mine for 15 years, I wish I had purchased the add-on kit to make them 125 pounds each. I tried looking for the kit online but so far I have not had any luck.

  Now add the cost of an 85lb dumbbell, 80lb dumbbell, 75lb dumbbell, 70lb dumbbell, 65lb dumbbell, 60lb dumbbell, etc. That's the whole point of this powerblock. Yeah if it was JUST a 90lb dumbbell that OP could buy for $180-360 that would be one thing. But this doesn't replace one pair of 90 pounders. it replaces a pair of 90s, 85s, etc. all the way down. Hence, the alternative is $1650-3300.

  There’s plenty of reasons to work out at home aside from car dependency. Even if your gym membership is $20/month (really good for a decent gym) you’d come out ahead with these powerblocks after only five months. Also at home you can wear whatever you want, blast your own music, not worry about other people’s poor gym etiquette, and do chores between sets

  I have had power blocks for …. Oh shit! 15 years. Anyway, they are great and have held up I have used them as weights for woodworking, wheel chucks, puppy gate supports, motorcycle maintenance assistance devices… and sometimes I lift them for exercise. For me they are dead simple so even if they were to break in some way they would be easy to fix. But they have never broken.

  They should last forever as long as your not dropping them, I have the urethane version and really like them, also have the ironmasters and those are rock solid and should last forever unless subjected to extreme abuse, and even then you would only have to replace, or fix the broken part.

  Ive had the 50lbs powerblocks since 2010 (have actually used them regularly for about 10 of those years) and they look/function like the day I got them. On a side note, I've never seen the 90lbs version, and they look a little ridiculous

  I have these, I 100% recommend buying the upgraded knurled metal handles from Powerblock. They make a huge difference and make the weights feel much more like commercial gym dumbbells. Congrats on the great purchase.

  I've had these for 3 years, and they get a lot of use. I've only broken them once when I slammed one down accidentally onto another weight. Fortunately, they sell spare parts, so the plastic clip that I broke was on the way for like $10.

  I have the core fitness. I like them ok, but they annoy me as well. Often when you change the weight and try to pick them up the holder goes with it. So I would recommend "nailing them down" or buying the stand or something. But what the real issue is for me is they only go up to 50 pounds. Bought them during covid b/c it was really all I could find that was not insanely priced. They are good for the price but I'm seriously considering Eisenlinks or maybe some powerblocks. Just not sure how I feel about the shape on the powerblocks.
