Bruh what? We have had our Pyrex and Anchor silicon lids and they have lasted 4-5 years or more and we wash them in the dishwasher half the time. Still, as we have lost lids at work or whatever, we’ve largely moved to silicon stretch lids that seem less brittle or to snapware which is even more durable.

I'm genx and I've never liked Tupperware. My mom had a bunch of it when I was a kid and I thought it was ugly, it got stained and held odors that made everything else not taste right and the lids didn't always fit well. I'm a fan of pyrex.

I’ve been using the “new” pyrex for about a decade and they are still great. Maybe not shatterproof from temp changes but we have many of the rectangular pyrex and cook in them and they all look like new. I think they’re great. Nothings perfect anymore. They’re pretty damn good

OXO and Snapware are the two that win all of America’s Test Kitchen testing. Personally, I prefer the Pyrex simply store and the Anchor Hocking dupes that are virtually identical. The plastic lids do eventually crack and a need to be replaced, but the companies sell replacement lids so it’s easy to get more. I’ve had the same set since like 2012, and I’ve only needed to replace about half of lids once.

We've had our Glasslock for almost 10y and they are used heavily. We never go straight from oven to freezer, we usually let things cool for 20 minutes or so. The gaskets are hard to remove, but it is possible. We've got all different sizes, but the bigger square, rectangle, and round ones stack nicely. The rectangle get the most use. We have large rectangular Pyrex too. My husband likes them more than me, but they are handy for leftover pizza slices.

I'm looking for a cookware and tableware set that will actually last.
I agree w/ other re: All Clad, Emile Henry, and Le Creuset or Staub. Sometimes the other brands of enameled cookware are really good too. I know my dad has a dutch oven from Mario Batali that has to be about 20 years old or so, and it's still going strong, it gets used at least three times per month and it still looks great. Plates and bowls with lids will be harder. The best stuff is my mom's old corning ware. Corning Ware still makes sets with lids -- look for some of those or look at estate sales for the old corning ware. Lots of that is still in existence. Look for vintage pyrex sets too -- a lot of those came with lids. Fiesta has some casserole dishes with matching lids that are nice. Depending on where you are located, start looking up estate sales and even small independently owned thrift stores where you can ask staff about items that you want. Develop a relationship with the managers and ask them to call you when they get new items coming in.

Snapware is great, until it isn't. We tossed the whole set after a couple years due to the lids no longer attaching. If you run them through the dishwasher, run the lids on the top rack, or handmade them. We have simpler Pyrex now, with a couple of different types of lids.

My German (wusthof I think? I got just a basic set, no frills) knives and cleaver take a beating and continue to sharpen well and hold an edge. Coming into squash season again and some of those heirloom varieties I end up needing mallet to split. Cast iron and stainless steel pots and pans, and also my discount rack—15 yrs old—lodge enameled cast iron Dutch oven. My potato masher was my grandmothers that she got as a wedding present back in 1930. So is most of my Pyrex—sourced from Either from deceased family or estate sales. Essentially things without weak points where a seam or weld can give, made from durable metal or borosilicate glass will be BIFL. Just be careful with stone countertops or ceramic sinks/tile. I lost my favorite butter melting bowl to a ceramic sink in a rental we lived in a few years ago.

Wooden prep and cooking spatulas and spoons from an import market. Nothing fancy, they're often 3-5 to a bundle. I've got some which are 45 years old.

Legitimate Pyrex glass bowls, pie plates and casserole dishes you can find the good stuff at yard sales usually. stainless steel or cast iron pots and pans, I think Lodge is a decent brand if buying new. wooden spoons, maple rolling pin. We have a hand crank flour sifter and hand crank egg beater that are both at least 100 years old. Metal measuring spoons and cups ( I think I got them from Target 20 years ago). I have basic ikea stainless steel flatware that is going to end up BIFL (we have used it daily for 10 years and looks barely worn). I have had a pioneer woman metal spatula with a red handle that I bought at Walmart about 5 years ago and it’s in almost new shape. I haven’t found any metal baking pans or sheets that I would recommend but would also like to hear what others have to say.

Looking for wedding registry ideas.
Go for quality pieces over sets for sure. No knife set, no cookware set. Here’s my recommendations so far. - Duralex Picardie glasses (timeless, still in production, super durable. - Corelle plates and bowls (they make strange designs, but they also have simple white rounded and squarish plates) Le Cruset maybe if you prefer the style. My grandma handed some down, so they last. -Oneida flatware if there’s a style you like from them. I think they have a lifetime warranty and my parents’ has still lasted my whole life, although I have had a couple table knives rust from the dishwasher. (Haven’t tested their warranty) - All Clad stainless 12in skillet D3 (I got the D5 because of a sale and I liked the brush metal). - All clad or Demeyere 3qt-3.5 range saucepan…something with a lip for easy pouring - Demeyere 10in saucier? (I got this massively on sale and it’s super heavy, but it kinda bridges the gap if I need a smaller skillet like surface, or a larger saucepan surface. The rounded edges make it perfect for, well…sauces lol. - Le Cruset Dutch oven (although, the saucier has a lid and can go in the oven…even fits a sourdough loaf!) - Asahi professional line cutting board. Natural color is cheaper than black. Maybe not quite for life, but it’s the closest thing besides an end grain cutting board which is much more maintenance. They’re beefy. They’re rubber with some wood in it, so avoiding the microplastics and the bacteria growth of other boards. You can fairly easily sand off a micro coating of it and haha a completely new surface as needed. - Get a quality chef knife (or Santoku or something if you prefer), paring knife, and serrated knife, and learn how to sharpen the former 2. (I’m currently learning on the Sharpal double sided sharpener…maybe practice on a cheap knife before your nice BIFL ones though lol.) - Nordicware sheet pans, bread pans, cake pans if you’re into baking. - Pyrex 3 piece measuring cup set (sorry I broke my rule about sets lol) - Kitchenaid stand mixer (if you’re into baking) - Hario V60 Pour Over Coffee Starter Set (the one with the plastic pour over piece) if you’re into coffee Might have other recommendations for rice cooker, coffee stuff, and cooking utensils, but it’s probably not as BIFL. Hope this helps! I know people love cast iron and carbon steel. Go for it if you like, but I really do prefer a stainless steel pan myself.

You're 100% correct. Both boroscilicate and soda lime glass have their literal strengths and weaknesses. There's no reason to avoid using Pyrex or Anchor Hocking for that matter. They are both still made in America and high quality for the price but if you want the stuff that can go under a broiler or on the stove top, then yeah seek out the European stuff. Honestly, if I'm doing either of those I will use an enameled cast iron or other metal baking pan.

You do not need an entire set. One good size cast iron skillet, a sauce pan big enough to cook pasta in, a nonstick skillet if you don’t know how to cook eggs in cast iron (or as backup for a skillet heavy meal), and a Pyrex casserole dish. You can add “specialty” pans as you grow your cooking interests. Oh, and most of these can be purchased for cheap at estate sales or antique stores.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but pyrex containers are NOT BIFL ... you will be lucky to get 2-3 years out of the lids and it costs as much to replace the lids as just buying a new set
I throw the lids in the dish washer and I have the many sets I got for my wedding 7 years ago and we have lost maybe 3 lids to small cracks on the edge, still usable but just grabbed a replacement set of lids and it’s so much better than plastic containers that get gross so fast and need to be replaced. I also understand I could take better care of them, part of BIFL is caring for things properly.

Tramontina tri ply stainless, the made in Brazil ones with all stainless lids. Not the stainless rimmed glass lids. Should you drop one, the all stainless lid might get a dented rim, but the glass may shatter. Cuisipro stainless measuring spoons. Sturdy, narrow oval bowls that fit into most spice jars. One piece construction, so the handles never break off. Pyrex glass measuring cups. At least a 2 cup size, 4 or 8 cup optional. Oxo makes decent dry measuring cups. Oxo is a safe choice for stainless utensils.

Pyrex is actually better for the average user. Most people aren't putting their dish in the freezer then pouring boiling water in it, but a lot of people are dropping the dish. For most uses I strongly prefer the tempered Pyrex, it's just less fragile.

Costco vs Sam's Club
I think sams club has great stuff. I prefer their members mark brand bath towels to Costco charisma towels. They have great glass food storage containers that last better than pyrex. Their food has organic options. We actually didnt renew our Costco membership a couple years ago and I'm really happy with that decision. Sams club is much further from us, but so much more worth it. Their food court is great too! Love their pizza pretzel and seasonal sundaes. There is a peach caramel granola flavor this month. We bought a swing for outside and its amazing quality. i second this. i have 4 sets of vaious sizes that i use when meal preppig. i use them for my 12 hour shifts and being able to pop the glass straight inthe microwave is nice. if you dont need a solid snap i also use the pyrex 10 pc glass meal prep set if my meals wont be jostled around

What’s a purchase that’s not fun, not flashy—but now you swear by it?
I love the glass pyrex containers! I found there are silicone covers available online if the plastic ones break (for the smaller ones that is). They are so much easier to take off and to clean. Actually love them better than original lids as I use these for lunches to take to work for spouse and I.

Brands not as good anymore
Check the capitalisation of the logo. "PYREX" is the good borosilicate glass and "pyrex" is the toughened sodalime glass that was marketed in the USA using the name under license The sodalime glass cannot handle thermal shock or scratches as well. I have found a vintage all glass percolator with "PYREX" logo and made in USA in a Finnish thrift store.

What’s one thing you bought once and it’s still going strong years later?
If the company practices ANTI-right-to-repair then NEVER buy a new product from them. This is most of the modern consumer products sadly. New Apple laptops cannot be upgraded and repairs are actively prevented. If you plan to repair your own instruments (you should) seek those makes that have service manuals and schematic diagrams available, limited to older units often. Practice and learn to repair your own appliances and you can get many things almost for free. Follow auctions for commercial liquidations. If you see an appliance you recognize and would need that looks crude and lacking in bling then that is the type you should investigate. Check out the cheapest consumer thing (mixer, drill, laptop) and then look for a commercial version used at a lower price. You will be getting many times the value. A $200 laptop is plastic rubbish but a second hand $600 when new business laptop that is 2-3 years old will probably beat it in every way. Companies that had a long life and always made their own products are the best. Those that came and went make you wonder why they went and if you can ever find spare parts should the need arise. We have a Champion Juicer and it only has two moving parts and the machine itself is the motor so no extra plastic trim to pay for. If you get food processing stuff then avoid surfaces for liquids made of aluminium. Pans, steamers, espresso/moka pots, kettles whatever, If you can find "PYREX" (note capitals) oven ware or other low expansion glass (Corning ware?) select those, the "pyrex" (note lowercase) is toughened sodalime glass and will shatter at a awkward moment. Older test instruments from Tektronix and Hewlett-Packard are well regarded. An older industrial welding machine will probably outlast you while a cheap consumer unit may fail at any moment. I prefer to avoid flatpack furniture (IKEA) as they are not made to last. We have many heirloom furniture items that may be close to 100 years old made of wood that my grand kids could still use unless NWO has herded us all into 20m\^2 (215sqft) rental units.

And these have been collected across a 35 year span and frequent trips to both western and eastern restaurant supply shops, not all at once: Tatung steamer/rice cookers, Ohaus valor 3000 xtreme scale, vintage high carbon knives (mostly French), good Chinese cleaver (Master Wu Artillery Steel), Benriner mandoline slicer (blades are replaceable), carbon steel woks in two sizes, EZ Wok outdoor wok burner cart, cast iron and carbon steel pans, Vigor induction ready sauce pans in a variety of sizes, Russell Hobbs kettle and toaster when they were made in the UK, solid wood (olive, beech & bamboo) utensils (spoons, spatulas), Nordic Naturals muffin and cake tins, Vollrath half and quarter sheet pans, Vollrath heavy duty stainless bowels in a variety of sizes, heavy duty stainless steel measure cups and spoons, PYREX volumetric measuring cuts, Waring all metal commercial grade immersion blender (2 speeds, replaceable blades), Braun Universal Mixer, Vitamix blender (I honestly wouldn't buy this if I had it to do over, it's our most rarely used gadget). The food processor has been replaced (killed beyond repair a Cuisinart, bought a used Magimix, had just for year) and the KitchenAid Professional (HA) had to be repaired twice so we gave up and switched to the Braun for bread doughs and barely use it now. #

Check out Anchor Hocking’s or Pyrex’s etched measurement lines—both are durable, dishwasher-safe, and the markings are permanently fused into the glass. You can usually find a 4-cup version under $15 individually at Target or Walmart. For a set, the Anchor Hocking 3-piece set (1, 2, and 4-cup sizes) is usually under $40. They’re much smaller than 8-cup ones and won’t hog your cabinet.

Uppercase vs. lowercase is a good rule, but isn't 100% foolproof, as Corning switched between the two on occasion. Corning didn't want to manufacture Pyrex for export, so licensed the tech to a company in France. That company has never changed the formula, so if you see "Made in France" Pyrex, it's the good stuff. I believe Corning also still makes Pyrex lab gear from the original formula, so you could possibly repurpose some of that, too.

Everything goes in the dishwasher, except the wok. I’m careful that the knives don’t touch each other, but that’s it. I also have a well-seasoned cast iron pan, but I never use it because I don’t like the metallic taste.

Best replacement lids for pyrex glass containers?
We've replaced all our original Pyrex plastic lids with two different silicone options. We have a set of the round stretchy lids that we generically use as lids/covers for any round container (including things like glasses), and we have a set of rectangular silicone lids to replace the original lids on our 6 & 11qt containers. I've also bought some replacement plastic lids for our round set because I've found that the silicone ones are quite stiff enough to be stackable when the containers are filled (like with leftovers in the fridge). Afaict, all the generic brands on Amazon are roughly identical, so just buy what's cheapest or the color you like.

Stainless steel containers with silicone lids. These are lightweight and easy to open for kids. I like the Swell food canister and anything from Planetbox. Lunchbots is hard to open for my kids. My kids can open 8oz and 16oz Ball mason jars easily for their snacks. If they take it to school, I put a can sleeve on them for some padding before putting it into their lunchbox. I vote for the pyrex set of glass containers with plastic lids at Costco for the adults in your household (use for leftovers, meat marination, etc.). You can tell the kids not to touch these large glass containers in the fridge (you can leave it on the top shelf too so they can’t reach it).

Since space is tight and you want something that’ll actually last, you might wanna [check out Sterilite’s](https://dbestlists.com/dp-B077VZZJ5K) stackable storage. It’s not glass, but that just means the containers are super impact resistant, easy to organize, and lock in place well so you don’t have to worry about accidental falls! Also the clear base makes it easy to see what’s inside without having to shuffle everything around. Plus they’ve been in this business for yearsss so they aren’t going away anytime soon either. If you’re dead set on glass tho, Pyrex is still out there - their lids just aren’t exactly known for longevity. Maybe try the hybrid approach, something like Pyrex for fridge storage and Sterilite for pantry stuff…? That way, you’d get the best of both worlds.

Unpopular Opinion: “Researching Before Buying” as an Excuse for Overthinking
This is why I thrift. My BIL (brother in law, I didn’t miss an F lol) does a lot of great research on big purchases like knives. Meanwhile I’m buying my decent knives literally one knife at a time; I posted about a CUTCO knife here one because I love it more than my “better” brand knives and this sub tore me a new one but it’s still my favorite knife. I also have a quality steel KitchenAid made in Germany with a hefty tine I’ll be resharpening for the next decade, and a Chicago Cutlery bread knife I might take to my grave. For each of these I have 2-3 knives I tried and didn’t “cut it” (literally), I just donate those. My cookware is Le Creuset or thrifted, I have only two exceptions (3-ply SS IKEA 360 pot) and off-brand Hexclad (Snowclad) frying pan. My dinnerware is Corelle or Lennox Fine China. My partyware, bowls are all vintage borosilicate glass: Anchor Hocking, PYREX, ARCOROC pink swirl. I don’t own any glassware of any kind that isn’t borosilicate. My tea set is moss rose (mixed porcelain makers, same pattern). I do not use paper plates or bowls ever, I own plenty of reusable vintage pieces. If I can attach an appliance to my KitchenAid stand mixer I will do that before buying yet another thing. I have a spiralizer, meat grinder, and pasta maker. All of my utensils are vintage (including Cutco! lol), excellent quality high temp silicone, or wooden. I use a wooden spoon or spatula every single day because hardwood has barely been improved upon. For clothing I require 50% minimum natural fibers such as cotton, wool, and linen. I don’t count rayon unless it is labeled organic. I read all the fabric labels and can thrift by feel, like I never mistake a polyester sweater for wool and can feel different cotton blends. Natural fibers last longer, and my wardrobe is like 75% thrifted. I also thrift BIFL boots and shoes, which generally don’t exist but better boots last a very long time and have exchangeable parts like boot liners and insulated soles so there is rarely a need to buy new. To each their own but I’m mostly here to learn about what things last so I can then thrift those things or find them on Marketplace.

2nd for Pyrex baking dishes. My mom gave me a set for Christmas just after I first moved out into my own place at like 19 years old. I'm now 36 and they still look damn near perfect. The plastic lids that came with them don't look *quite* as good, but they're still solid, with no breaks in them at all. Just have a few scratches on them.

I've been married for almost 15 years, and we still use a few things we got for our wedding daily. The Zwilling knife set and stainless steel pots and pans, as well as the old Pyrex baking dishes and liquid measuring cups. The 18/10 stainless silverware and all of the metal baking pans are still going strong as well. Surprisingly, the Walmart towels we bought for our first apartment are also all doing well. Most things broke or stopped working at the 7-10 year mark. All the small appliances, the non-stick pans, the glassware, and even the salad spinner. The Pfalztgraff dishes did pretty well until we had kids, and then those were replaced with Corelle dishes and Picardi glasses.

Buy your PYREX measuring cups from thrift stores if you want them last a lifetime.
Even better, buy scientific beakers made of borosilicate glass. They're really quite handy and have acid-etched graduations. I still look for other old Pyrex at rural yard sales but my 3000ml beaker is perfect for my microwaves. Another trick I use is new clean stick welding gloves instead of pot holders. Another option is to look for "Made in France" Pyrex. Corning didn't want to ship Pyrex across the Atlantic, so they licensed the rights to a French company. This company never changed the formula. Before people because obsessed with Pyrex, you could buy the European stuff off Amazon for a small premium. Last time I checked, Amazon prices were through the roof!

Don't set hot cookware on a cold surface, use a hotpad. But if you must set hot cookware on a cold surface, use metal or ceramic, not glass. But if you must use glass, use borosilicate. Outside this extremely narrow use case, soda lime is more durable and cheaper. 99% of people perpetuating this stupid myth are either abusing their glassware by thermally shocking it for no reason, or using glassware when it's an inferior choice for their purposes.

I do believe the soda lime is "tougher" so it can withstand drops. I do not have stone countertops or often take stuff from the oven to the freezer, so this is really a non issue for me. Also I have many vintage pieces and new pieces, capital and lower case. Only non pyrex stuff have I broken (Pampered Chef).

I don't usually find old Pyrex at thrift stores, but pretty much every estate sale I've been to has several, even on the last day of the sale. A lot of thrift store cookware is just recent stuff from people upgrading or downsizing, but estate sales skew more towards having older stuff because the people are categorically older. That being said, Pyrex measuring cups are significantly less common than Pyrex baking dishes

I found an awesome little one cup PYREX at a thrift for a dollar but surge know the spout was chipped until after a few uses.. it’s basically a smooth chip so I don’t think their is risk of glass coming off plus I don’t drink from it. I don't know why I never saw this! Like the other commenter said, great! Funny story that the same thing as them happened to me-- I dropped my lunch bag with the cute yellow pyrex container from the photo (RIP). The container shattered spectacularly into a million little pieces but the lid was fine. All 3 lids are still in rotation today and sealing just as well as they did when I first got them.

Exactly this. I learned it the first time around with the Rubbermaid Brilliance lids. Hand wash all the lids 95% of the time. I sometimes have a lazy day and just throw it in. But rarely. That said, if it still a thing, the Snapware brand lids (with Pyrex containers) have a lifetime replacement warranty on their lids or something like that. I just had to contact them and send them a picture.

I’m debating between the Ello brand and Rubbermaid brilliance glass food storage containers right now. I have both, but I think I prefer the ello for the silicone on them (easier to hold when warmed up and not as loud when stacking, moving around). They do both have plastic lids, though they don’t really ever touch the food so I am not too worried. Both stack nicely in a cupboard as well Everything not “meal sized” goes in mason jars or recycled glass jars, Pyrex with silicone lids, or aluminum tins for items that will not need reheated. We also have some silicone bags, but they are more annoying to clean and they seem to not hold their ability to click together very long (maybe I am just buying the wrong kind idk)

I use pyrex, silicone lids are an option, those are nice. But for the squares I use plastic lids, food doesn't touch them and they've lasted me a long time even with the dishwasher. plus if you do manage to break or lose one they are replaceable. I'm really happy with them esp since they double as small baking dishes, or to bake and just put a lid on the leftovers, or reheat the leftovers in the oven. FOr my lunch I use the little pyrex rounds with silicone if I'm microwaving at work, or else lunchbots ss bentos and HF, Lunchbots or Zoji insulated jars.

This might sound absurd but I have really serious problems with ADHD + Autism + depression, and adding the "line with parchment paper" step to the task is probably going to make it practically impossible to do. x.x It's already very difficult to put food on tray and in the oven. After trial and error with big brands, my wedding registry picks, and discount store/secondhand shopping, I’ve got some suggestions for the basics (and brand recommendations)! - <b>Splurge: Staub Dutch oven </b> (the dimpled lid allows for better steam distribution than the others) - <b>Cast iron pan</b> 10 or 12” — Lodge is really affordable and available at Target - <b>stainless steel pasta pot </b> (you can also use it as a stockpot for homemade chicken soup - the strainer feature is great here) — I got AllClad, but just be sure to get a high quality stainless steel (lower quality versions can allow nickel and other heavy metals used as the base to be exposed to your food as it deteriorates) - <b>MadeIn stainless steel anything</> — I just got a saucepan from them and I used it to melt chocolate yesterday— I’m amazed. Superior even to my AllClad pans, and I wish I’d registered for these. - <b>Crow Canyon porcelain enamel sheet pans</b> - <b>Silpat sheet pan liners</b>better for you than aluminum foil and, per a caterer I asked what to put on my registry, a “must have” — I’ve been so glad to have these for cooking and baking) - not a pot/pan, but <b>Epicurean cutting boards</b>. Nontoxic (unlike plastic cutting boards which release microplastics into your food) and dishwasher safe. - <b>HexClad</b> whether these are in fact nontoxic (as long as you don’t damage the protective layer, so it says) is iffy, but they’re great for things that are prone to sticking, like eggs. - <b>Visions glass cookware</b> you can find these at thrift stores or on Etsy/Ebay. They’re made of a super strong glass and allow you to see what you’re cooking as it cooks, as well as dishwasher safe. Good for some things, not as much for others (I.e., pan-wise, not ideal for something you want a nice sear on), and it is crucial that you get one without any damage (cracks, nicks, whatever) because some that have been damaged can kind of explode (uncommon). - <b>cooking tools</b> ditch anything metal! A good set of wooden or bamboo tools is great. So are GIR silicone tools. I LOVE the meat chopper for ground beef. - <b>oven-to-table cookware</b> you can’t go wrong with Corningware (though ugh, mine chipped at first dishwashing— something I’d never seen before), Pyrex, or Anchor Hocking. You can get these secondhand pretty easily, but be careful of the pretty vintage ones, as the paints can contain lead. I hope this is helpful! My 5 dollar cast iron skillet from Value Village 30 years ago , I've added a couple of other used cast irons over the years. They are my main daily cookware. Stainless steel pots and pans NO non-stick EVER. Stainless steal utensils last forever. Bamboo (must be bamboo) wooden spoons hold up really well too.I also, don't really buy anything plastic. Mason jars for storage. Pyrex is another good buy.

Also, Corelle owns Corningware. I have a large set of white Corningware casserole dishes with lids and the rubber storage lids. I bought these at the same time as the dishes. They are all still soundly intact. I have 2 sets of Pyrex that are also the same age and still holding up beautifully. All of these things get regular frequent use.

I have a revlon nail file that might be as old as me (mid 30s). Not truly BIFL but my 2011 macbook pro is still going strong. Veggie peeler that is absolutely older than me. Hand me down from my mom. My grandparents bought a sears sewing machine in the 60s. I now have it and it still works! I also have some of their old Pyrex but have since realized those have lead paint so.. now they just look pretty. I had yoga pants from victorias secret that were 20 years old. I just finally got rid of them this year because they don’t fit but still so much life in them.

**Just don't hit/tap your utensil on the side of the container.** I would mix things then tap to clean off my spoon or fork. My *pyrex container rim chipped and a shard of glass broke off and I didn't notice. I scooped it up with my food and it punctured _all the way through my tongue_. I got it out and threw my food away. Now I'm replacing all my pyrex with PYREX, and I don't hit the side of the container anymore.
