I agree with buying CDs and ripping them. Especially if you're into more mainstream or older artists, they're simply not available on Bandcamp. But, if you wanted 100 percent digital, using Bandcamp combined with Qobuz direct download buying is the way to go.

Bandcamp and Qobuz for me. Qobuz also have a streaming service (which apparently pays the artists a lot lot more relatively speaking compared to Spotify), which I find useful because 1) switching from streaming to owning doesn’t happen in one day, plus 2) it’s still cool to still be able to stream to discover new things even if you buy them later on and 3) being subscribed to their streaming service gives substantial discount on buying their High-Res albums, you can compute the break-even point but it’s not that high as far as I remember, the subscription basically pays for itself if you buy a bit of High-Res music, especially for someone starting to build their music library hence probably buying a lot of music for a year or two. Of course point 3) doesn’t matter if you would have otherwise bought CD-quality music (which is already very good) and buy High-Res only because you have the discount, in that case you’re just spending more money and convincing yourself that something you didn’t want in the first place makes it worthwhile. But if the conditions are met, I highly recommend a Qobuz subscription. And also Qobuz without subscription just for buying music itself. The music genre of their meta-data sucks in my opinion when you’re in sub-genres, but I haven’t really ever seen any music store shine in that specific regard.
