My cobbler recommended redback boots rather than blundstones. He said that it’s easier to find a cobbler who will repair redbacks. I wear blundstones because I avoid buying things new and it’s easy to find gently used blundstones, however my cobbler won’t repair them.

Not sure which specific style of Blundstone you were looking at, but I love my Redback boots. I work in landscaping and they last 2-3 seasons, which is wild given what I put them through. I think the quality is MUCH better than Blundstones.

Walking Shoes Recommendation?
I really love Chelsea style boots, redback makes a very sturdy and comfortable pair and if you find sales you can get them around $120, compared with closer to $200. They are a workwear focused brand so they often have sales. They last me atleast 3 years of daily use. I have really great Goodyear welt boots, but they aren’t as comfortable and replacing the sole cost over $100 every couple years. They are also waterproof enough for a hour long walk in moderate rain.

Redback makes hiking boots. Purpose built for walking a lot. Blundstone doesn’t. It’s just as simple as that. Doesn’t mean either brand sells bad shoes- just need to pick the right footwear for the job.

I don't necessarily think OP is wrong here. I have a pair of redback boots (exaggerated by rose anvil as Blundstone killers and most comfy boot ever) and after six months walking 20-30k steps a day on hard surfaces the soles are almost unworn. Blundstone is a lifestyle brand but also probably chooses a softer rubber for grip which always wears away fast. I have some thoroughgoods with their 'hard' sole that didn't last either.

If you like slip ons I'd recommend you check out Redback. They're an Australian brand and I've been wearing mine for years. The last set I had I actually passed down to a friend on the ship because I didn't have the space to take them with. Not sure about BIFL but they made it through years of heavy use with little wear in the soles. Also extremely comfortable.

I was considering some Blundstones a few years ago but after research on recent quality, I went with Redback boots. Almost look as good and way way durable, I have not been easy on them and they look barely used.

Best wide shoes for heavy folks (8+ hours standing)
These aren't all cushiony but good for wide feet and proper toe spread! Topos or Altra (Altra is better looking but their foam wears out fast and they're zero drop so you may prefer Topro which has some puffy soled models), Superfeet inserts (go some place and be fitted), Lems primals, Redback boots with superfeet (way better than Blunnies now) or Birkenstocks (not cushiony but they do have some softsole models). You might find with a better fitting shoe you don't need as much cushion. Hope you find something good!

Check out Jim Green Stockmans, they're way better in terms of construction and leather quality and what the company stands for. If you want specifically this style, the Redback boots are better than Blundstone. Blundstone sold out a while ago and their quality nosedived.

I get roughly 5 years out of mine worn roughly 50 hours a week so they're not bifl but they're so comfortable. The only caveat is if you're kneeling a lot the toes have no scuff guard so get trashed. If kneeling a lot look at steelblue not quite as comfortable but very close

Yes they are. As an auto mechanic they were my most favorite boots, good grip in oil, trans fluid and coolant, very water resistant (up until the elastic on the ankle area). Also since they use real leather they do become super comfortable after break in. I changed careers a couple years back but I still use them as my work boots and always keep a pair in my truck. As someone already stated the thing that keeps them from being a BIFL item would be it’s almost impossible to find someone to resole them due to construction. They are in my opinion the best bang for their buck if you don’t absolutely need laces or waterproof boots. I went about 2 years in a shop setting before the soles were toast but in a setting without the chemicals I went almost 5 until the soles started getting holes into the foam.
