  Christmas gift from MIL

  Vitamix blender, Kitchenaid mixer (or attachments for it, if I already had one), Breville automatic tea maker. I've had my Breville for 10 years of daily use and it's still going strong. Good sheets and towels. Maybe not technically buy it for life, but they'll last a good few years to a decade if you take care of them. If either of you sew, a Reliable Velocity iron. I know Rowenta is the long time gold standard, but I've used professional gravity fed systems that weren't as powerful as the Reliable. It has been going for almost a decade with no hiccups, as well.

  Ugh. Please recommend me an iron that (a) lasts, and (b) doesn’t spit water all over whatever I’m ironing. So sick of my last two irons. But yes, I’d prefer a steam iron if possible, because I’m lazy, I guess. Thanks.

  I read lazy and I knew I had to answer this because, same. Here's how I’d break this down based on my own experiences (and a couple of borrowed irons from overly organized friends). For heavy duty use Reliable and Rowenta steam irons are the best of the best. Reliable in particular has a model, the velocity 230IR which has this pressurized steam system that is super consistent and there are no random water spurts. It’s perfect if you’re dealing with heavy fabrics or a mountain of clothes Now if you’re more about everyday ironing like me I can suggest 3 steam irons: CHI steam iron 13102, the black+decker D3030, and the pursteam steamburst+. The CHI is lowkey luxurious. It has this titanium infused ceramic soleplate that’s really smooth. Also it has adjustable steam so you wont be blasting delicates with the same force you’d use on jeans. The black+decker allure is more no-frills. It heats up fast, doesn’t leak and just works. No complaints but it’s not particularly exciting either.
