What’s one item you think should be built to last, but never is?
I bought an umbrella off Amazon maybe in 2017 and it's still going strong. I just went by the "Amazon's Choice" tag and bought the first decent one I saw. Mind you, back then that tag hadn't turned into a total shit show yet. It was the Repel brand umbrella with the retractable button. I've used in East Asia during the monsoon seasons. It flipped when the wind was too strong but you could just flip it right back unharmed. The velcro on the tie has no felt left. Other than that, it's 100% structurally sound. One downside though, it's substantially heavier than regular umbrellas. You can definitely feel the difference in your backpack.

What’s the best umbrella you’ve owned that survived strong wind?
Repel has such an amazing warranty! They replaced an umbrella after three years. I contacted them, told them it broke, sent a few pictures, and they sent me a new one without any hassle.

Repel also has a lifetime warranty with replacement coverage. The language on their site makes it sound like you had to buy it originally from them, and register it, so I thought i would fail and bought another. Went to register THAT one and it turned out it was just sending them my email address and then a "thanks for registering!" Ended up emailing them, showing them pics to document my complaint, a screenshot of my Amazon receipt from 8 years ago, and received a completely free replacement about a week later. The reverse close is great but the travel one is my fave.

What’s the best umbrella you’ve owned that survived strong wind?
The Repel Windproof Travel Umbrella has been a tank for me, used it through NYC wind tunnels and it never flipped once. Not saying it's indestructible, but it's the first one I didn’t have to throw out after two storms.
