  Water pitcher or Faucet attachment to filter tap water? Or??

I saved a lot of money installing it myself with help from a friend who is a lot handier than I am when it comes to home improvement work

  Need a new water heater, what’s the best brand for reliability etc? Current one leaking like crazy 4 spots from 2009

  My first hot water heater was a Rheem, it lasted 25 years. 2nd heater was a Bradford White, it lasted 15 years. Now I just got an AO Smith 12 years from Lowe's, let's see how it goes.

  I'm a commercial/industrial HVAC service tech. I fix machines, and install the occasional RTU or unit heater on warehouses generally. I've had pretty good luck with Rheem if you want a standard gas furnace, otherwise Mitsubishi is kinda king when it comes to heat pumps, though they're definitely not cheap. Regardless, the easiest way to keep them running for a very long time is to change your filters every 6 months if not once a quarter, and if you're comfortable with it, set your thermostat to have the fan run continuously. The energy spike on startup is what tends to stress the electronics, and that amp draw can actually cost more if it's turning on and off constantly. But yeah, most furnaces will do at least okay with routine filter swaps and some actual mantainence every so often. If you can't find a good company to do the work, call a commercial HVAC outfit in your area and ask for a recommendation. If they're decent people, they'll tell you who to call and who to avoid

  Had a rheem heat pump water heater that had the control board shit the bed. One phone call, some basic troubleshooting, and I had a new control board shipped to me; I did pay for overnight shipping and FedEx F-ed that. Would definitely buy again.

  I’m 3 years in on a Richmand/Rheem tankless, no issues at all, as the other large post below states, just keep up with the maintenance. (Also, side note….i would not use a tankless if you have hard water)

  Hot Water Heater (Electric)

  I recently went with a hybrid 50 gallon rheem proterra water heater and have no regrets so far. I use the heat pump on it to keep the cost down. The energy sticker on the side of it says it estimates $117/year if you use the heat pump only. I had it installed in the garage due to the noise the heat pump makes. It doesn't run often, but I would not want it inside the home if you're noise conscious.

  Hot Water Heater (Electric)

  Rheem makes a plastic water heater. I serviced one the other day that was from 2007. The heating elements should be the only things that need changing out from time to time. If I only had the option for electric, I'd go this route.

  This person should not be downvoted, it's absolutely something important to consider. It depends on the brand. The Rheem's are the quitest, and I understand are plenty quiet enough for most situations. I have a state and it is quite loud, I've read that they push into the 80db range - the fan makes some load but it's the compressor pump that really does it. If I'm hanging in the basement I swap it the resistance mode because it is too much to be around.

  Electric vs gas water heaters

  If you literally want BIFL, you can get a Rheem Marathon with a lifetime warranty. But it uses (relatively) a lot of energy, and it will continue to do so forever. A heat pump water heater will often pay for itself in energy savings (warm climates are better, but they can make sense in cold climates too). It won't last forever, but you'll likely save enough over the lifetime to buy a new one when it fails.  To fill a tub you'll want a large tank, maybe 80 gallons.

  My Rheem heat pump replacement was mostly paid for by federal and utility district incentives. Super nice and programmable so that you aren’t making lots of hot water if you don’t need to.
