My parents have the same exact model that they still use and it's about my age (ca 1980). It hasn't killed us yet!!

What's the oldest thing you still use daily that works like new?
I have my mom's dangerous Rival Oil popcorn popper. I still put it into a big grocery bag so I can give it a good shake with the butter and salt My mom would make a grocery bag FULL when we went to the drive-in. We had to put in our PJs. Big Buick.

Crock Pot, Instant Pot, Pressure cooker
I have an old, original Rival CrockPot from 1978 that works great! I still use it for soups, stews, everything I’ve always used it for. Main reason I have not purchased an InstaPot.

Crock Pot, Instant Pot, Pressure cooker
Rival Crock-pot 5qt. They aren’t made anymore and the one I have was my mom’s (R.I.P.) originally. Still going strong decades later and so good that I haven’t needed to buy an instant pot or pressure cooker yet despite being tempted. Can’t recommend crockpots in general enough, simple and tons of recipes going back generations.

What’s a kitchen item you bought once and never had to replace?
Farberware cookware, 1982, what is now called Farberware Classic. When my wife and I combined households we found she had bought the same set at around the same time. Henckels Pro S knives. I bought a set in 1982 which I supplemented in the '80s and '90s. I'd never buy a set again. We bought some for my wife in the '00s which have held up well. 1957 Rival Crock-Pot slow cooker was a wedding gift to my mother. She gave it to me and I have used it regularly for 45 years. Olive wood spatulas, three of them, bought--I think--in the '90s. Still in good shape. Swiss Diamond covered high saute pans bought in the late '90s. Holding up nicely and are daily drivers used once or twice a day. I don't buy gadgets. I buy tools. Not everything is BIFL. I sharpened a veg peeler once. Not going to do that again. Every four or five years I'll replace it. The most important element of BIFL is care. If you're putting cookware in the dishwasher it will never be BIFL. Stop doing that. The single worst thing you can do. Care is not "babying." If you abuse your belongings they won't last. If you don't care then get used to replacing things and stop whining about it.

As seen on TV products that are surprisingly BIFL
My mom passed on her immersion blender by Rival to me, so it must be over 30 years old at this point. I remember they made mayo in the commercial, which I’ve never done, but that thing still tears through soups and pinto beans! I’m guessing I have another 10 years before the cord cracks and gives out.

What's the oldest appliance you own?
My crock pot (2003) & my mom’s crock pot (1975), both Rival brand, both going strong.
