  Looking for a kitchen gadget that’s actually worth spending extra on

  Depends on if they get used -- and how often. For me, the "worth it" appliances are: * Robot Coupe R2 Dice with all the attachments (there are two kinds of food processors -- Robot Coupe and "less than.") * BlendTec blender * Robot Coupe or Vitamix stick blender (big price difference here -- the Robot Coupe is superior, but at a hefty price increase) * Kitchenaid (or better yet Hobart) stand mixer with at least the grinder attachment if not others * PolyScience Sous-Vide pro * MoccaMaster and LaPavoni coffee makers * Zojirushi or Cuckoo rice cookers My coffee grinder is no longer made. So I bought a couple burr replacements. It is unlikely to ever die.

  Amazon Prime day tomorrow - anything worth looking at?

  Robot Coupe, Blend Tec, Field Company cast iron, Rosle kitchen tools. However, put everything in your cart and take a screen shot. And then watch prices rise on Prime Day with a "sale." The number of actual deals is quite low. Most of it is manufactured FOMO impulse buying.

  What BIFL items would you add to your wedding registry?

  Robot Coupe food processor, BlendTec blender (NOT Vitamix), All-American pressure cooker Field Company, Finex, Smithey, or Lancaster cast iron -- and no other brands. The brand doesn't matter. The fact it's machined glass-smooth matters. Matfer Bourgeat carbon steel pans. (Inexpensive, good, and for-life.)

  What’s one thing you bought once and it’s still going strong years later?

  Good cast iron, and carbon steel cookware. A good carbon steel wok can last a lifetime. A good kitchen knife...doesn't have to be fancy, a good 8 inch chef knife from F Dick, Dexter Russell, Mercer (about $10-20). Anything from Tom Bihn. The bags are very thoughtfully designed, and tougher than chrome/timbuk2 bags. A really good screwdriver. Grace screwdrivers and Bahco are my favorites...with Vessel from Japan being a new fave. Vitamix. Robocoupe...refuses to die. FWIW, a Breville food processor died on me after only 2 uses of intermittent use.

  Immersion Blender: Ninja Vs Vitamix

  Rtings is good for TVs and monitors but I wouldn't put any faith in their view of cooking equipment. Including ice crushing in the test of immersion blenders is like scoring TVs based on their usefulness as a table, and giving anything from Ninja an 8/10 score for "professional use" is a pretty clear indication the testers don't know what they're talking about. Between your two options I'd go with Vitamix but realistically your best option for a BIFL immersion blender are: 1) whatever brand is stocked at your local restaurant supply shop, probably Robot Coupe, Waring or Dynamix 2) Bamix

  What brands do you trust to always deliver a high quality product?

  Vitamix. Robocoupe. Bosch (kitchen appliances). Lee Valley/Veritas. Lie Nielson. Herder chef knives. Mac knives. G and L guitars. Taylor guitars (I'm not a fan of their style/tone, but their QC is best in the acoustic factory guitar scene. PRS guitars (some of the best factory electric guitar QC). Toyota/Lexus. They just work. I have a Honda, which is pretty reliable...but they chitzied on plastic floorpan clips instead of metal. Bottom of my car started going "whoosh" after 54000 miles. Never had an issue on my 1997 Corolla. Spyderco. Victorinox. Leatherman. solid warranty, and decent QC, even with all the Chinese clones. Mitotuyo micrometers. Built different. Tom Bihn bags. Waterfield designs. IMHO significantly better and tougher than Chrome (wore a hole through a corner in 1 month) and Timbuck2. Excellent ergos. Excellent workmanship and materials. Patagonia.

  Does anyone know how this 12 cup die-cast metal Cuisinart food processor from Costco compares to the 14 cup version with the paddle buttons that is always recommended?

  Don't be dramatical. I've never heard of this and googled it. https://www.robot-coupe.com/usa/en_US/p/combination-processors-r-101-p-plus/18433 is one version. Seems like a real beast, so thanks for bringing it up. Only hiccup is that 99% of us won't be dropping $1000 for a food processor. But thanks for bringing it to the table for those who aren't scared of the price.

  Here come the downvotes. But in terms of reliability, available parts, joy to use, and "buy once, cry once," there is Robot Coupe and only Robot Coupe. There isn't even a distant second. It truly is Robot Coupe and "every other machine."

  What’s one product you bought that has lasted forever and was totally worth it?

  So many things... \- I bought a craftsman circular saw when I built my house 40 years ago and it burned out the first day. I replaced it with a Makita saw that I still use to this day. \- I also bought a Robot Coupe food processor around the same time and it's still chugging away. \- Sturdy oak furniture - had it all my life. \- Good pots and pans and cookware. (Calphalon, Le Creuset, cast iron) \- Weber grill \- I have a GE refrigerator in my garage that's probably 70 years old and still runs fine. ($35) And no, they don't make them like that anymore.
