  Karve Shaving Co. brass safety razor

  I bought my Rockwell 6s a decade ago and I'm probably set for life. Everyone should be told about DE razors. I've read they're beneficial for women as well but I haven't tried shaving my legs yet.

  Yes on the Rockwell 6s! Even though I rarely switch the adjustment plates these days, the ability to easily adjust the aggressiveness of the settings is a huge plus.

  Anything stainless. Razorock probably make most budget stainless ones - I love their JAWS, but I'm yet to see bad stainless steel razor from them. Muhle Rocca is an excellent razor. Stainless Rockwell, be it single adjustable razor or a kit with multiple plates will allow to pick the one that fit pretty much for everyone. I really like occam's blade razors, although they are not exactly that traditional. The only stainless razor I wouldn't recommend is probably ambassador rex. Really rough for a novice, and doesn't really get much smoother with experience. I'm still (5+ years of owning) try to make it work, but frankly 10x cheaper razors from china work smoother. Source: I own about 50 safety razors, shaving is a bit of a hobby for last couple of decades.

  I bought a Mercur in around 2005. It eventually broke because the screw was a separate piece that gave way. Did my research and found that Rockwell was the most solid built and I’ve been happy with it since.

  Invest in the best; the best isn't the most expensive, but will last a lifetime. I really like the Rockwell 6S as an option for a beginner that would grow to be a power user.

  BIFL razor for the not so hairy man?

  I've got a Rockwell and shave once a week if I remember to. Sometimes once every 2 weeks. It's significantly better than the cheap butterfly one I got off Amazon. The butterfly one doesn't support the blade enough so it'll bend and dig into my skin when I wait too long to shave.

  Just get a stainless steel safety razor from Amazon. Look that it’s not a Butterfly but a screwtop. The thing will last longer than most marriages. Mühle, Rockwell, Merkur just to name a few decent options

  What did you wish you had at 21?

  Mineral B pro and Rockwell 6S are solid choices. Also proper leather shoes etc. quality clothing, often from lesser-known handmade niche brands.

  You still haven't learned about double edge razors? Well now then you know double edge razors are one razor blade that have two sides to shave with. Which they are much better than cartridge razors less irritation and less cost per blade You can search it up on wet shave community on Reddit I currently have a Rockwell 6s double edge razor I would recommend that then cartridge razor to anybody 🪒

  What brands do you trust to always deliver a high quality product?

  Here's my list of brands that have earned my loyalty: * **Saddleback leather -** It's pricy, but I've never been disappointed with anything I've purchased there and the quality is rock solid. I've now bought multiple bags, a wallet that I've carried for 10+ years, and a desk pad. * **Patagonia** \- Great company, great products, great warranty. * **Lodge** \- The best value Cast Iron around. Sure, you can find better pans. . . for 5-10x the cost. Lodge delivers an excellent product at a very fair price. * **Spyderco** \- I spent a lot of years casually collecting pocket knives, with well over a hundred pocket knives in my set. Spyderco isn't necessarily the fanciest, and some people don't care for the look, but their excellent quality and the functionality is top notch. * **Victorinox** \- A Swiss Army Knife is still a great knife and I carry one regularly. Their multi-tools are better than Leatherman, and their kitchen knives are rockstars for the price. * **ThermoWorks** \- If you want a good thermometer (and if you cook, you do), this is the brand you should buy. The Thermapen is the gold standard, but the ThermoPop is a great budget option, the SPOT is a great fridge thermometer, and the DOT is an amazing probe thermometer. I've got half a dozen thermometers from ThermoWorks and I wouldn't buy one from anyone else. * **Rockwell Razors** \- Traditional safety razors. I bought their Original 6S Stainless from their first Kickstarter. The first attempt didn't cut it quality-wise. Rockwell made it right by replacing the razors from everyone who received the first batch of sub-par razors. I haven't seen any Kickstarter company that went as far as Rockwell did to take care of their backers. And the final product hit it out of the park. I've bought multiple razors from them since and they're all excellent. I'm probably forgetting a few, but I have trust and faith in the quality of anything I buy from these companies.

  Has everything we buy reduced in quality over time? Has anything increased in quality or stayed high quality and durable?

  I’d say there’s a survivor bias to that statement. There’s always been cheap shitty power tools being made, only the best have actually lasted long enough to represent their time. That being said I’d gladly fight somebody for the chance at new power tools built with as much metal parts and standardized/off the shelf components as my Rockwell, craftsman, millers falls, and Stanley stuff.

  Unpopular Opinion: "BIFL" as an excuse for overspending

  I had a 23c for about 20 years of daily use before the coating started to come off. I now have a Rockwell 6S after trying several handles.
