Looking for a couch that is actually worth the money- why does it feel impossible?
i completely get where you're coming from - comfort is everything when you're dealing with chronic stuff. for that plush sink-in feel you're describing, check out la-z-boy's plushier models (not all are the recliner style). their deep seating sectionals with down-blend cushions are what you're after. also, room & board has some great velvet options that are super soft and hold up well. if you're near an arhaus, their deep seating sofas are incredible but might stretch your budget. one tip: look for '8-way hand-tied' construction - it's a sign of quality that lasts. and always test in person if you can, especially for that 'sink-in' feel.

Looking for a couch that is actually worth the money- why does it feel impossible?
Room and Board. We have the York sofa w chaise. For 10+ years. They layer foam with down so it’s supportive yet soft. The seats always look taught and neat. Every week or so the back cushions need a quick fluff. The fabric is Dawson Cement which is discontinued but it’s held up great, it’s substantial like canvas but has a softness a bit like flannel. We tried a sofa from West Elm and it just always looked sloppy.

Please help! Which couch (store)
You are not alone. We are all here because we have been searching, fruitlessly and tirelessly, for a quality couch. Don't be like me and do years of research only to end up with something that is too firm but looks pretty. If you don't mind a slightly more traditional or vintage look, learn the top quality brands and pounce on them on facebook marketplace. Ethan Allen, CR Laine, Rowe, anything Italian, most Room and Board or Arhaus models. Expand your radius to search in the wealthier parts of town. You can get top quality pieces in really good condition for a fraction of the price. And you can make any style work with the right design around it. An English roll-arm can look really cool with a more modern rug and coffee table. Pay close attention to dimensions - the seat depth and height is important for how it will sit. Tell them you want to come see it before making an offer. People will negotiate bc they're just happy you're getting it out of their space. If it's a vintage couch that looks almost new, chances are that thing is built to last.

If it were me, I'd look at local higher end stores or Room & Board. IKEA would be my third choice. Everything else you've listed is either low quality, overpriced, or both.

Please help! Which couch (store)
Do NOT buy a couch (“sactional”) from Lovesac. They’re outrageously overpriced and pretty comfortable IMO. Of the stores you mentioned I’d lean toward Room & Board. I’ve only owned one piece of furniture from them (Parsons table), but I was very happy with its quality. If I needed to buy a couch tomorrow Room & Board is almost certainly the first place I’d look. Good luck!

Looking for good quality furniture
A Chicago question I can help with! We generally fill our condo out with Facebook marketplace finds of reputable brands, but splurged for a couch from Room & Board. Great decision! If we move I told my wife I'd rather just furnish a new place with as much of their stuff as possible instead of piecing it together. Great service and quality, super impressed even if it pains me to look at prices. Also I believe most of their furniture is made in the US if that matters.

No, made in third world sweatshops and then marked up to hell. Room and Board is a good starting point for quality, American-made furniture.

BIFL Bed Frame Mid-Century
We have a Room and Board frame similar in style to the picture. Note, we have *not* moved 6x in 10 years, so take this with a grain of salt. But we do have pets (and possibly a husband😏) that use it like a concrete curb for parkour like moves playing chase and hide and seek and the thing is still a rock. After panicking the first couple of times but seeing no change in stability, I've become a Room and Board fan girl, even though MCM isn't my first choice in style.

Room & Board quality since pandemic - items built 2020-2022
We have quite a bit of Room & Board furniture, all purchased since the pandemic, late 2020-late 2025. Our experience has been overall positive and have avoided many of the issues other people mention in the thread. We even have the Ford swivels in banks velvet and they have been very durable. So much so that when we ordered a Reese curved sectional this year for another room, we went with the Banks velvet in green because it has been so durable and stood up to English bulldog slobber the last 5 years. We have a Cato sectional in the white orla ivory fabric. It’s stood up very well the past 5 years, especially for a light fabric. A friend spilled a large glass of red wine on it within a week of having the Cade. It cleaned up very well with Folex which Room & Board recommends. We also have a ton of their outdoor furniture, all 4-5 years. It’s been the most durable and lasting outdoor furniture I’ve ever owned. All looks basically new. We have a fabric sectional and tables on a screened porch, plus a glass top metal dining table, matching chairs, and Emmet chairs in bright orange. We do cover the furniture when not in use…gotta take care of stuff you invest so much money to buy. We have read reviews on some of their other pieces and made a different choice based on those reviews, so maybe we have avoided issues by not buying those items. Such as the Evan leather dining chairs. A couple years back we ordered a walnut media cabinet that when it arrived was more grey and very different than other walnut pieces we have from them. When we called, we were told the line about variations in walnut, but also told that vendor had switched up walnut suppliers and it now looked different. This seemed a bit shady and unlike our other experiences so we requested a pick up and refund. At first they were resistant and also wanted to not refund the home delivery charge. In the end after pushing back we got a full refund since the item was quite different from the showroom and we weren’t informed before buying. Last month I returned 2 pillows that didn’t hold up well, they snagged or pilled within 6 months and I put them in a closet. I found them again when recently reorganizing and decided to write a review since they were much less durable than the many other pillows we have from them. Room & Board responded to my review and sent me a refund for the 2 pillows even though I purchased them 4 years ago.

Desperate for a couch that doesn't suck
NOT West Elm. For the amount we paid, it’s not holding up as I’d expected. And it’s small (which is one us…the dimensions were disclosed) compared to what you can get from other brands. Room & Board forever. It’s made in the US and you can order a ton of swatches. If you have questions, you speak to an actual human being.

best sofa that will last
Love our room and board metro with the Tatum fabric. Going on 7 years and no noticeable wear. Holds up well to dogs running all over it and dog hair is easily vacuumed out. Easy to remove stains. It’s really easy to find lightly used ones on marketplace for cheap.

Room and board metro deep vs crate and barrel gather deep
You should buy the ottoman now! We have had our metro couch for 8 years and it still looks brand new. We moved to a bigger place and instead of buying a new couch with a chaise, I wanted to just add in the ottoman. But they no longer carry the fabric we had chosen for our couch. So if you are interested, I would just go ahead and buy it!

Looking for a VERY pet friendly couch
We got the Metro from Room & Board in velvet and it's great for us. Cats have no interest and you can clean it pretty easily with a damp paper towel. I wanted a Lovesac, but the footprint was too big for our space and the price was about 2x that of the couch we bought.

Better version of this couch?
Room and Board’s Metro sectional has a wide [double deep chaise](https://www.roomandboard.com/catalog/living/sectionals/metro-sectionals/065004?CHAR_065004_UPH_CUST_FINISH=CC&CHAR_065004_UPH_CUST_FABRICS=T40&CHAR_065004_UPH_CUST_FABRIC_COLORWAYS=G15) option that is already pretty close to the sofa pictured. Their sectionals can be configured to order, so you would be able to choose the pieces that would create the shape you’re looking for. I’ve been sofa shopping and have been impressed so far with what I’ve read and heard about their products and the Metro was quite comfortable when I went to look at them last week.

Not sure if you can find them in Canada but our Room & Board couch has survived for over 15 years with 3 boys using it as fort base material, body pads for kickboxing, parkouring, pillow fighting, and other general mayhem. Room & Board all the way. Made in America products. Great company in general. I have a pair of custom chairs from there that are almost a decade old and I swear are heirloom quality. Might need to be reupholstered at some point, but the construction is solid as hell and they are as comfortable and in as good of condition as the day we bought them. Worth every penny, zero regrets.

Buying a quality couch that can last more than 2 years?
Room and Board and Ethan Allen are two brands I bought. New they are over budget. But used you can afford. I bought a decade used Ethan Allen for 400 bucks and it is still going strong after using it myself for a few years. I threw the covers in the wash on gentle and cold even though they say not to and they got clean and fresh with no issues. Ethan Allen is HEAVY, Room and Board is a bit lighter. I hired a local mover for it and they did it themself for 100 bucks.

Buying a quality couch that can last more than 2 years?
Just buy some used mid-level stuff like Crate & Barrel or Room & Board, then get some money out of it whenever you move. I would hold off on higher quality new stuff until you plan on being in a home for years. Avoid Ashley and similar. You could go to IKEA and try the Kivik couch. I’ve never sat on one, but have read several posts elsewhere that said they’re are reasonably comfortable and solid for what they are.

BIFL Best Sectional?
Heritage copper leather and the cushions with springs. The leather is really nice ( better than the sample). The cushions are softer than expected. I sink down a bit but cushions give some bounce back. I went furniture stores with top quality sofas and when I would sit in them I could feel the cushions flatten out and I don’t feel that with this sectional.
