  Duvet cover recommendations

  Rough Linen has been solid for me - had their stuff for like 3 years now and it's held up really well. Their colors are definitely more muted/earthy and the quality is legit. Shipping was fast too, no weird cancelation drama Only downside is they're pricey but honestly worth it if you want something that'll last

  When you buy the sheets, ensure they are the [Orkney linen](https://www.roughlinen.com/collections/orkney). That is their sturdiest sheet. It’s what your great-grandma’s linen sheets were like brand new. They also have lightweight “Smooth” linen and midweight “St Barts” linen, but I find those more suitable for clothing.

  On the hunt for durable linen sheets

  consider that modern fitted sheets are essentially disposable and are a scam. they get ground to bits by tossing, turning, adult activities. they can and will wear out. no sheet on the bottom will last. learn to make beds with a flat sheet on the bottom. out of frustration, i learned to sew my own from heavier 200- 250 gsm linen and "turn them" when they start to thin. i have a 2012 fergusons still going strong because of "turning". even in the old days grandma hit the white sales every january. the chatelaine of the older house would order a new bottom flat sheet every year from the convent or ireland or france or belgium. and make the worn out bits into top sheets, childrens sheets, servants sheets, pillowcases, napkins, rags, plant ties, and bandages. cascading uses of the linen . in modern parlance, the annual household cost would be about 500 US dollars to maintain the linen stash. linen was so expensive it would be part of the dowry. i have had exellent luck with ferguson irish linen, cuddledown italian plain sewn, linoto, and rough linen orkney, len linum, buzz words to watch out for: prewashed, washed, airy, lightweight, gauzy, stone washed, enzyme washed, all code words for cheesecloth, handkerchief weight, or pre damaged. edited to add: linoto and good seamstresses wash the linen before sewing. to make it move and shrink before sewing. this is different than washed to make it softer. i have improved my knowledge of tow linen and bast linen. also modern looms don't use the long flax fiber. they chop into bits to spin a lesser quality, shedding thread, it ism my opinion that the modern linen sheets are this lower quality chopped short fibers. consider the lithuanian, belgian ,france, and irish linen to use the proper long. bast fibers. another thing you can do is just replace the bottom sheet (open stock) top sheets never wear out. i stick with nautral , black and white so everything "goes"

  Silk Bed Sheets: I will NEVER go back to cotton

  Naw, it’s a quilt. With wool batting in between.  But you did remind me that I was looking into Rough Linen strong, but ultimately, I’m a fan of greys and charcoal mostly - not really a color guy. Their grey is too light, and the black, I wasn’t sure it would read grey enough; so finally decided against.  Regarding wool duvet vs wool insert. A couple of reasons. The first, I’m in FL, so really don’t need anything to heavy. I can layer if ever need be. And two, when I did live up north, I did use duvets with down comforters, and even with corner tie downs, I found myself always fighting with the gobs of unmoored material (king sz), whether at the middle or the sides. It felt unwieldy to me. Tho I recognize that might not be the case as much with wool given the natural weight of the material as opposed to down.  I’d be open to looking at that combo were I to be back in cold climate; I’ll take a look!

  Anyone have linen sheets that lasted 5+ years?

  Rough linen is 260gsm. 7.7oz/yard. Not stone washed decant color choices. Duvet cover is nice and heavy.

  Which is the best linen pillowcase?

  Mine have three coconut buttons for closure but now they come in envelope style or “European style deep cut” so it hides the pillow, I love that they have that.

  Okay, I’m biased here because I LOVE Rough Linen and will forever advocate for them. The Orkney series is heavyweight and durable and will last. I have some as pillow shams but find them a bit too thick but substantial. Their smooth linen pillow cases are wonderfully soft and smooth. Either way they get softer over time! Can’t go wrong with anything RL!
