I use Rubbermaid storage containers. If you can move a bunch of books or tools in it, it'll survive the laundry. I also have a few of the old nylon Ikea laundry bags. They don't stand up by themselves but if I'm transporting laundry longer distances then something simple and light and bigger than a backpack is what I want.

How can a company continue to make money if their product lasts forever?
Rubbermaid is far superior. I bought a giant Tupperware set at Costco within the last year, and have been largely disappointed with several aspects of the design. The shape takes up way more volumetric space inside your fridge. You can’t see what’s inside. And when filled they are top heavy and prone to tipping over if you knock into them. And since the tops are larger than the bases. Stacking them becomes a game of fridge Jenga roulette where you end up with the fridge door open and 6 containers open on the counter and still can’t find the leftover mac and cheese you wanted for lunch.

What are the Best Glass Food Storage Containers Available Now? Recommendation
I use the Rubbermaid, both glass and plastic. They share a lid design, so if it's not going to be heated or going to work i can do the plastic and they all share a lid. I do use the 9.6 cup for baking in and their plastic as larger storage as well. I use the pantry ones as well. I try to keep everything in one ecosystem and grab the units only when they are on sale. The only round I use are the arrow with the lids, that I use for serving sizes of mixed berries.

I wouldn't call them buy it for life but the Rubbermaid Easy Fit Lids in size 3 cup, 5 cup, and 7 cup are my favorite containers for most of the reasons you list. I understand it is only 3 heights and not 4 plus, but we just use 2 containers when we have a lot to put away. They also stack nicely in the fridge with the lids on. These are always available at places like Walmart in large kits that include lots of the smaller size containers for really good prices if you just want to donate the small ones to a thrift store. Otherwise you can buy directly on the Rubbermaid site the size you want but they are more expensive this way often. Patio dining furniture
I'd suggest mesh chairs with aluminum frames, and a glass table top with an aluminum frame. The chairs are cooler to sit on, and with glass you have basically zero maintenance, and it won't get too hot. The only downside of the glass table top is that you need to wipe it down before using, as even a little grit on the top with glasses produces an annoying grating sound. I bought a set of Rubbermaid mesh chairs with aluminum frames, and a matching no-name glass/aluminum table, and they are still going strong 25+ years later. The aluminum chairs have a couple of dings in the finish, but when it finally annoys me enough, I can always touch it up with spray paint. Getting good quality (marine grade) teak is a challenge for patio furniture, and keeping it looking nice involves cleaning it and oiling it at least once(but more likely twice or more) every season. In addition to being time consuming, good quality teak cleaners and oils are expensive. The protection afforded by your polycarbonate pergola roofing will likely make your maintenance closer to the once per season maintenance, and you might even get away with once every two years.

I have a Rubbermaid laundry basket that was designed as 'hip hugging'. It has a curve for the hip and is designed to be carried with one hand, although it has three. I doubt that the quality is still the same as it was when I bought it 15 years ago but I just want you to know that it's perfectly reasonable to carry laundry with one hand.

I think mine are Rubbermaid. I use the square smaller size of the pictured ones, and have had them for decades. I don't use them for wet laundry very often, just in the summer to hang dry a load or 2. They easily fit a load to carry out to the backyard. One load isn't too heavy for me. I carry them on one hip, holding with that hand so I can open the door. What if you only carry one load at a time? It means more trips, but will not overload the plastic as easily. Especially if you carry wet laundry. I like the suggestions about the Ikea bags. They're cheap and durable.

Stick with plastic. Anything that’s fabric will eventually smell really bad. I tried having a bamboo hamper and it eventually cracked. Metal will rust. Plastic is usually the best bet when it comes to dirty laundry. And it’s way lighter. Try buying a sturdier plastic hamper! Maybe the Rubbermaid Hop Hugger basket.

The screw holding the knob had rusted out, so rather than replace it, I just found another in the appropriate size and a wooden reel and I’ve got another few years out of it so far.

Tupperware or food container set with same size lid
Rubbermaid has a couple of sets where the same lid fits several sizes of container base, but there are two lid sizes to span the whole group of containers. So you have some some containers (like 0.5, 1 and 2 cup) that all fit the same small lids and another group (3, 5, 7 cup) that fit the large lids. I don't know if they are BIFL, but I've had some for 10 years that are still going strong. I think we've lost more than we've broken, lol.

Anyone experience mold on Rubbermaid Brilliance line?
I've been using the glass ones for years after the plastic ones degraded and cracked from constant dishwasher/microwave use. The plastic lids are the same and they're holding up just fine, but I always hand wash the kids and dry on a rack to preserve the life of the silicone seals. No mold or mildew issues and I have terrible quality water prone to buildup in showers, washers, etc

This is really random but I have a ton of Rubbermaid easy find containers (the ones with the red lids) that I've been considering getting rid of, I'd be happy to ship them to you if you're in the US. They're plastic, I've had them for years. They crack every so often tbh, but I have so many. I bought a couple variety packs, new, about 5 years ago. I bought my first set in 2009 a second set a few years later because I needed more. Both sets are still in daily use. A few have been claimed to loss or forgotten lunch box food. The majority still going strong.

What’s a kitchen item you bought once and never had to replace?
A plastic Rubbermaid brand dish drain rack. [THIS ](https://weekshomehardware.ca/p/rubbermaid-white-spacesaver-dish-drainer-4472323) exact one just in green. My wife bought it when she broke up with her ex. It was the cheapest one Walmart had. That was two years before I met her. We've been together for 24 years this fall. Making the rack about 26 years old. And it's still going strong. My only complaint is that it is easy to move too far from the sink edge, making water drain into the counter. We should probably get just a drain tray. But since we now have a dishwasher, it's not all that urgent.

I’ve recently discovered Rubbermaid brilliance and I love them. I commute via train to work and these are truly leakproof and lightweight. I also like that the lid sizes are pretty standardized. I have 3 different capacity containers that all use the same lids.

Modern alternatives to Tupperware?
I’m loving these silicone containers myself. They’re microwaveable, ovenable, dishwasher safe, etc. So far mine have held up really well and they’re sturdier than you think. They also seal up tight so no leaks, and there are no latches to break off. I know a lot of folks are recommending Rubbermaid brilliance but those lasted me less than a year before the lids started cracking and they got a weird un removable film (I’m assuming from being put in the dishwasher??) rubbermaid is the de facto tupperware alternative.... their only downside is that you can't buy a lid separate from a base... i have about 15 containers, but only 5 lids of that size

We've used the Rubbermaid Brilliance for a decade or so. We started with the plastic ones. The 3.2.cup size work so nicely for leftovers and hubby's lunches. They last for years with daily fridge/microwave/dishwasher use. As they've aged, I've begun replacing them with their glass counterparts (confusingly, also called Rubbermaid Brilliance). The lids are plastic and interchangeable with their older cousins. I was so happy to see they have a small glass casserole sized one, with a plastic lid for popping in the fridge. So handy.

I had a Pyrex dish explode when I picked it up out of a cabinet. It was completely room temperature and was probably 3 years old. Now I just use the Rubbermaid containers. F exploding glass at eye-level. I know the Pyrex is no longer made with borosilicate here in the US.

Rubbermaid Brilliance makes a fantastic product. I have the plastic ones they’re made with a certain type of nontoxic plastic not the same as other ones I’ve had. Check them out plus they seal wonderfully and they are leak proof.

What do you think of the two section laundry hampers? It seems most of them use bags which are hard to get your clean clothes back into to take them back to your room.
We do something similar. Everyone has a Rubbermaid tall commercial waste basket tucked in their closet. We have one laundry basket for clean dry clothes.

[Request] My lunch just exploded in my bag ruining everything inside of it. What do you use to carry food to and from work?
I have a fabric bag. It looks like the disposable paper bags but is reusable. Some synthetic material. I bought it at an Earth Day festival in 1976 or 1977. The printed Earth on it is a little worn but otherwise in good shape. I've carried it on its own and in tote bags and back packs. Inside, sandwiches in plastic sandwich bags, yogurt in factory containers, soda cans, leftovers in a wide range of containers. Often a ceramic plate, flatware, and a napkin in the bag also. My favorite containers are Lock-n-Lock but I've used Tupperware, Rubbermaid, Snapware, and reused takeout containers for soup, etc. Never a problem. I usually run it through the clothes washer every ten years or so whether it needs it or not. If your lunch "exploded" in your bag I have to ask what you did to cause that to happen.

Replacement Trash Can lids?
Contact Rubbermaid. They might send you replacements. The wheels came off of one of my roughneck cans, but they have a crazy good warranty on them. I just wanted replacement wheels and they shipped me a whole damn replacement can lol. While they might not cover this under warranty, I'll bet they have the replacement pieces to sell you at a minimum.

I am fine transporting food in single to few use containers like the polyethylene one above. Also LDPE plastic bags most food comes in. For reusable containers, glass Rubbermaid with silicone lids or "BPA free" recycling code 7 plastic containers. The latter is a risk because I don't know exactly what is in them. BPA is also a weird one since in polycarbonate it's fully reacted to the polymer and not the same risk as the monomer chemical. It's like saying glass is dangerous because it contains sodium metal, which catches fire in water!

Looking for Tupperware alternatives
I’m debating between the Ello brand and Rubbermaid brilliance glass food storage containers right now. I have both, but I think I prefer the ello for the silicone on them (easier to hold when warmed up and not as loud when stacking, moving around). They do both have plastic lids, though they don’t really ever touch the food so I am not too worried. Both stack nicely in a cupboard as well Everything not “meal sized” goes in mason jars or recycled glass jars, Pyrex with silicone lids, or aluminum tins for items that will not need reheated. We also have some silicone bags, but they are more annoying to clean and they seem to not hold their ability to click together very long (maybe I am just buying the wrong kind idk)

We bought two of the wheeled versions and so far so good after 18 months. The axle and wheels are extra beefy, just like the cans. We hated spending nearly $80 each on them, but at least we may never have to spend any more money on new ones.

Recommendations for glass food storage and knife set please
Rubbermaid Brilliance … has never leaked on me yet and nor has the lids warped. Also agreed with no knife set - just invest in the ones you will use - chef, paring etc. I have a Global set but I barely use the other knives. Not to mention I haven’t found the courage to try and sharpen my knives by myself.

Airtight cookie jar/container
We dealt with those stupid buggers for a year. Every time we thought they were gone, they’d pop up again. They got into popcorn in a plastic screw cap jar…so be aware that plastic containers aren’t safe! We use mason jars for some foods like beans, lentils, rice and coffee. Cookies and crackers don’t last long so I’ve stopped worrying about them. We think ours came from dog food! We have a large bred so buy big bags and store in garage in a Rubbermaid bin. Can’t put that in a freezer so I just have to check bags carefully. We keep pantry moth traps near dog food area and also a couple in our pantry..I check them regularly!
