  Every year I think about replacing my 2011 Samsung TV but it’s still going strong. The design and picture quality has held up. I’m sure the new TVs would blow mine out of the water side by side, however, everyone is shocked when I tell them how old it is.

  yup, I have a "close relative" to this TV from 2011, the UND7000 in 46". honestly the picture still looks just as good as the day I bought it. obviously technology has improved since, but 99% of the time, I don't have any issues with picture quality. the times I've thought about upgrading have been if watching something that's got a dark scene and I struggle to make out all the details given the scene is quite dark. the other times have been if the sun is shining at a certain angle (or my indoor lighting) and there's an annoying glare. and lastly, there's been times where I've wondered if a 55" screen would better fit the room, granted it's not a large room... I just wonder sometimes. if I ever do decide to upgrade, I'll be getting one of those Samsungs that have virtually no glare. while I don't wish for this TV to finally give out or lose pixels, it would certainly make upgrading an easier decision. the trouble is this television works just as good as the day I bought it, so it's hard for me to justify replacing it... it just seems so wasteful... I really don't like the idea of it being scrapped and recycled for it's materials (and the non-valuable materials sent to the dump) when it still works just fine... this is what happens to most TVs that the previous owner decided to upgrade... very wasteful and overall pretty shitty for the environment to replace things that are in perfect functioning order. I suppose I'd feel better if I was able to find another use for this TV or another interested party who would take it and use it for themselves.

  Somebody recommended a Samsung Galaxy. I have the G10 49" ultra wide. $1100 four years ago. I just bought a Samsung qled 50" 4k TV for $280. I'll be honest, using a TV as a monitor kind of stinks. But the truth is nothing you have is going to take advantage of a gaming monitor. I'd split your spend on a decent sound bar and a decent 4k TV.

  I love my beats Fit Pro fit working out but if you lean your head on a pillow during the flight or have anything pushing up against the earbud you'll hear this screeching noise. I instead use my Samsung Galaxy buds 2 because they are small enough to not stick out when leaning on a pillow. ANC is adequate. The Sonys seem interesting but I have a feeling they are too bulky to pass the pillow test.

  Aluminium cases are the big thing here because they dump heat way better than the plastic shells that just trap it and make the controller go weird over time... once stuff gets too hot your write speed falls off a cliff and you can end up with corrupt files. The super cheap drives are usually stuffed with mystery QLC and barely any wear leveling, so they look like proper SSDs but behave like a slow USB stick the moment you push them a bit. If you want something that wont randomly choke, pick one that actually says USB 3.2 Gen 2 and uses NVMe inside. Anything that hides behind vague high speed USB claims is bad news. Forget the huge up to speed numbers on the box and look for a sustaied write rating. If they dont list one its probably rubbish. Samsung T7 or Sandisk Extreme V2 are the usual choices that work and dont melt down into a headache, pretty simple really and theyre not overpriced nonsense either.

  Looking for quality wireless earphones

  This is the most sane answer in this thread, we just don't have the technology to make rechargable devices like these last for more than 2~3 years. I had bad experiences with Anker soundcore devices, I use earbuds a lot (8~10hr/day), these anker stopped lasting more than 1.5hr/charge after the first year, before that they were a solid 8hr/charge. Samsung earbuds appears have better battery longevity (2~3 years, i'm on a second one), but midway through the 2 year you'll start noticing that what used to be 7hr/charge becomes 5hr/charge.

  I will say that the Samsung 8 is very accurate.   I had a bypass 6 months ago and wore my watch daily while in the hospital just to see.   It kept up and gave me the exact readings that the machines I was connected to.   My son wanted me to try his apple 11 and it was off by a minimum of 6bpm.  It didn't keep accurate at all worth the machines.

  I have no idea if it's in the comments or not, but going the opposite way, especially with an iPhone is the smarter way to go. You get major updates for at least 5 years, and security updates for even longer. Android is a mixed bag depending on manufacturer and what not, I love my Galaxy phones from Samsung. However, Apple really does have something with their own hardware and software. You may not care about all the tools and what not on the newest phones, in that case, don't get the pro/max models. Just get one that will have the storage space you need from the current generation. They have pretty constantly done this since at least the iPhone 4. Going with the newest model with an iPhone is the best way to get the best longevity from owning one.

  Not sure what TV to get for my use case.

  Direct sunlight is going to wash out anything, so you're right to avoid OLED unless you enjoy screen burn as a hobby. What actually matters here is real sustained brightness. Not the stupid “peak” numbers they slap on the box. If it can sit around 400 to 600 nits without cooking itself, you're in the right ballpark. Edge‑lit sets fall apart in bright rooms, so a full array backlight holds up better. Fewer hot spots, less panel sag years down the line. VA panels give you better contrast and don't turn into a grey smear when the sun hits them. IPS just gives up. If the thing has a metal back instead of thin plastic, even better. Hot rooms plus plastic shells usually end with a warped panel or lovely little cracks around the vents. Samsung’s TU8000 or Hisense’s U6 series are usually the only things in this price range that aren't complete junk. Skip the ultra thin designs. They're built for showrooms, not sunlight. And don't bother with models that rely on software tricks to goose brightness. That just burns out the LEDs faster and you end up with a blotchy mess.

  If you’ve only tried LG, you’re already off to a solid start. they last forever. Other than that you can also look at Samsung and Sony if you want something reliable with good picture quality. TCL and Hisense are pretty popular too (especially for Roku/Google TV built-in and decent value for money). If you’re just using it for streaming or as a secondary TV, even Toshiba and Insignia (Amazon’s house brand) are decent and won’t break the bank. I’d avoid super off-brands unless you just need something temporary.   Hi, domestic appliance repair company owner here. More and more brands are incorporating features such as WiFi, but you can choose to not use these at all (in fact most people don't!). Here's the list in terms of reliability and long-term spare parts support: 1. Miele 2. Fisher & Paykel 3. Bosch (or Neff for integrated versions; both brands are owned by the same company and identical inside) 4. Samsung 5. Beko Miele and Fisher & Paykel are "luxury" brands and you should expect it to last 20+ years of real world use; much longer with the odd servicing requirements (replacing spare parts when they fail). Miele, as an example, we've repaired machines over 30+ years old and spare parts are still available. I hope this helps!

  65" TV Recommendations

  I have a high end LG TV and the screen has "burn in " where the picture has images of lines or bars that never go away. I replaced the screen once and a couple of years later it happened again on the new screen. I will never buy another LG. I've had much better success with Samsung and Sony.

  My Samsung washer is 15 plus years old. Dryer 10 plus. The only thing I have ever replaced on the washer is the water inlet. We have terrible water and yet I just did that last year.. easy swap. Did it myself. The dryer had the heating element and I chose to replace the thermal fuse at the same time. This was because I have 7 pets and the hair collected and burned the element. That was on me. The repairs are simple and I was able fyi have my son do the work. Haven't spent $100 on both of them combined. All n all very pleased.

  Which brands/products have gotten better over time?

  I ended up with one of the midrange Samsung QLEDs because I don't watch TV in the dark and don't watch anything where deep blacks matter. But viewing angle matters a ton because I have a sectional couch, and I play games so refresh rate matters, so I sunk money into getting a model that was good for those. It's really important to understand your needs because unless you're writing a blank check nothing has everything.

  Request: Best all-in-one washer dryer combo -- one unit does both

  The ventless heat pump units are great. I have the Samsung Bespoke. 120V. But you have to fill it 1/3, not 1/2 full. If you fill it 1/2 full, you’re overloading the dryer and clothes won’t come out dry. Because it’s both a washer and a dryer you have to fill it like the limiting factor which would be the dryer. Most people overfill them then complain. I don’t care how long a load because fill it every night and wake up to a warm load every morning. That’s what she said.

  This is a bit of a funny question, as the galaxy buds were among the first big brand bt earbuds, so you wont get too much experiences of people rhat have tested by earbuds mucj longer than your galaxy buds have lasted. Also, those models wont be available anymore. I still have my first gen samsung galaxy buds. Used them almost daily for almost 7 years now, still work as new. Holds the charge just fine. I dont really think it gets any better than that. Id just buy new ones if yours are somehow broken. My gf has a newer version. Sound quality has improved a lot, but dont know if they are as durable long as the first gen.

  Add security updates to your list. Many software updates are not only about slowing your device down. My last Samsung Galaxy lasted exactly 4 years and I replaced it when it dropped out of security update support. Many new phones now have 7 years support, but you need to check for it.

  I've been on the Samsung train for a long time. I've had a pair of Galaxy buds+ for ~5years. I lost them this year and replaced them with the Galaxy buds FE. idk if they have enough waterproofing for you but I would give them a try. I really like the little wings that help sit in my ear.  Something else you may be interested in is buying a Bluetooth to aux adapter and use IEM's. I used to use this on film sets because I had a headset for a Motorola walkie and an extra aux tied in for listening to comteks.  I would keep a BT to aux adapter in my pocket, connect my phone to it and listen to music between setups.  There are many on Amazon, they're ~$20 or less, can't say I recommend the one I purchased for long-term, the battery life just wasn't long enough. I used to keep 2, one on my cart charging and the other in my pocket. I'm sure one exists that will have the battery life you want, you may just need to give a few a shot.

  I have a Samsung—no problems with it—the problems seem to be done and over with, at least with the model I have. It is French doors, 3 stainless panels—no handles or visible water/ice maker. The latter are inside. The fridge is side-by-side, and the freezer is a drawer. On sale less than $1500. There are a variety of sizes—the smaller ones are counter depth.. Would not buy anything LG. Also, skip Lowes as they rarely have anything in stock. I am tempted to put signs on each and EVERY appliance in the store that say, “Great choice, but we are out of stock!” After I correct all of the signs that say, “ISLE 5” and “heighth”.

  samsung buds live, the "beans". I cant use in ear earbuds so these were some of the only options available. nice sound, u can hear outside even with noise canceling, mic sucks though. love them i have two pairs. at first they hurt your outer ear a bit then they get used to the new shape and all good.

  Samsung Galaxy buds 3 pro have the best passthrough I've ever heard. Looks like you have a Samsung phone too so you can utilize more of the special features. Audio quality is fantastic. There are some issues with comfort, but those can be worked with and ears will adjust.

  We have a Samsung oled panel we bought in 2017 and it’s still fine. The LG’s we’ve had haven’t lasted long. TCL is about 6 years old and fine but low quality. Best I ever had was a Sharp Aquos, bought in 2008 and sold to a neighbor in 2019. It’s still in his son’s room.

  OLED are MUCH better these days. I sell them and haven't heard of any issues of burn in for about 6 years. We also run our displays 10-12 hours a day and I haven't seen any colour shifting or burning lately either. Newer panels are much brighter as well.  Don't be afraid of OLED, many of the issues have been worked out. IMO stick with LG or Samsung though. Many brands use LG panels but pair them with subpar processors. I like to think of it as throwing $60 tires on a $100k car. You're only as good as your worst component

  I recommend the Samsung [65" Class Neo QLED 4K QN85D](https://www.samsung.com/us/televisions-home-theater/tvs/samsung-neo-qled-4k/65-class-samsung-neo-qled-4k-qn85d-qn65qn85dbfxza). I got one several months ago and quite like it. It has good build quality for a TV. It has a fast processor, which really shouldn't matter, but it makes apps load fast and the TV generally be responsive. Samsung's interface is getting marginally better. And the picture quality is great for its price range. I used to work for Samsung and I think they make good hardware, but generally make abysmal software. I really wish I could throw out 90% of the SW in that TV, but nope. Anyway good luck.

  Most bang for your buck fridge?

  I love my Samsung 4-door fridge. I think the thing you want to avoid with any fridge but having ice in the refrigerator door. From my research that is the biggest point of failure. I have an ice maker that is only in the freezer and an automatic water pitcher filler on the inside of the fridge.

  Samsung phones are rock solid. My 2012 Samsung Galaxy S3 is still fully functional, minus the obsolete software. Currently using a 2021 Galaxy Note 20, no issues whatsoever. The battery is a bit weaker after 4,5 years, so I need to charge it twice a day instead of just once, but apart from that it's still going strong.

  Any flagship will last you for years, as long as you keep it in good protextive case, with screen protector and change battery after a couple of years. If you care about software updates, Samsung announced last year that they will keep giving out software updates for 7 years, but it’s yet to be seen.

  I purchased an Google Pixel phone when they were first released in 2016. In year two, the phone went into the dreaded restart loop. There was no solution for it at the time & Pixel support was no help. At that point, I was such a dissatisfied customer that I promised myself that I wouldn’t have anything to do with Google phones again. I started buying cheap Indian and Chinese phones. I had to purchase them frequently as they frequently physically broke. In 2020, I decided to actually spend some $$ on a phone that might last for a while. I chose a Samsung Galaxy A20. It’s been inside of an Otterbox case performing flawlessly since day one.

  I've had my samsung A51 since 2020 (maybe even 2019, I don't remember when exactly I bought it). I had to send it in for repairs 2 years ago because the screen was literally destroyed after a bad fall from the second floor and I had the battery changed on the same occasion since its performance was starting to let up. Had I not had to send it in for the screen, I probably would have gotten at least another year out of the same battery. Other than these changes though, I've never had a single problem with it, I would definetly buy it again if it was still available when I'll have to let go of this one

  My wife's Pixel 9a also broke, be suddenly go completely black, no damage or anything. In our home we have learned to trust Samsung, those never let me down, and we've had ten of them. And Huawei p10 and p20, they are workhorses like no others. Those ones are still in use and works perfect, not even sluggish in the os. Very impressed. I don't know about newer phones, though. I have a one+ nord4, and it seems sturdy and stable still, but there are some annoying designchoices with this brand that I can't take them serious. I will probably get a Samsung next.

Battery life is starting to go, but that's only to be expected. I kind of suspect the 26 or 27 will be out by the time I replace the 20.

  I've had 3 pixels in a row. There's nothing so wrong that I don't trust them. The problem is they never feel premium and the price goes up every damn year. I used to buy them because they were a great value but with the increasing prices I'm switching to Samsung next phone. My last Samsung was a Note 8 and it lasted 4 years! As far as BIFL, tech will never be BIFL because security updates will eventually stop and your devices will be increasingly vulnerable.

  I have always bought one generation behind the current flagship, and they last for about 5 years. Concerns are always with security as older phones no longer get the updates. With each new phone, the older ones get downgraded. I just bought the s24, moved my s10 to my home automation hub, and the S6 is now my dedicated TV/firestick/Roku controller. I am going to baby the S6 because it is the last model with an IR blaster. Then it will be the S10 with an IR blaster plugged into the headphone jack, as the last Samsung flagship with a headphone jack.

  The Ultra series Samsungs are scheduled for a bunch of updates, I can't remember it's 5 or 7 years Their flagships have been getting better over the years when it comes to lifespan, at least in my experience.  My S8 started getting slower right at the 2 years mark, I'm talking letters appearing with a delay when writing.  My S20 lasted 4 years before the battery got much shorter and it started getting so warm during charging, performance wise the decay didn't strike me as much as with the S8 Right now I've got a S24 Ultra which I got right as it came out and honestly after 1,5 year everything is as good as new

  Samsung, as others have said. Bought a used unlocked S10e on Swappa and had that for ~3 years until I felt like upgrading because of camera tech and security. I've had my used unlocked S21 Ultra ever since. Still runs great. I do miss the days of commonplace user-replaceable batteries and upgradeable storage space, though. Headphone jack erasure hurt at the time, but Im over that now.

  I went from the Note4 to Note20. That Note 20 broke due to my dog and had the screen replaced in a back alley, but then I dropped it i the bathtub so the S25 ultra. That Note20 never felt right with those curved edges. But that S25 Ultra? Feels like a brick like my Note4. My wife went from S7 to S23. Still original battery and screen. The Samsung flagships are usually build to last. Put a decent UAG case around it, and you'll be good for at least 5 years.

  How are ventless dryers?

  I have the Samsung combo washer/heat pump dryer. I haven't had it long but so far I like it. I'd note though that it still gets clothes hot. I was hoping it'd not do that to extend clothing life. Although I think a regular dryer still gets them hotter. (Air drying clothes is best for them) the other thing to note: It takes *forever* to dry. I'm used to air drying, so it's still faster than that. But plan accordingly. Don't do your bed sheets in the afternoon if you want to have them available that night. In fact, wssh them first thing in the morning. I honestly think if you have a big family, they aren't practical. But for my personal situation it's perfect!

  What’s your research process?

  I'm like you, and I prefer to research and BIFL rather than settle and have to replace/send stuff to the trash heap. I somewhat rely on consumer reports and the NYT's wirecutter review site... but I also tend to rely on reviews, whether they're on a box store site or the brand site or even amazon. I take it all with a grain of salt to some degree, and usually feel pretty good about purchases once I've done a few hours of research. I also tend to have brand loyalty to some degree, especially in regards to clothes/accessories/shoes. I also avoid some brands, especially in regards to appliances (ie Samsung tv YES, Samsung kitchen appliances HELL NO). more info than you asked for, but for instance, a lot of the IKEA built-in furniture units (ie Pax or Sektion) get a fair share of bad reviews, but bc I have a fantastic handyman who I pay to build that kinda stuff, I disregard most of the negative reviews bc I know he knows how to correctly build the unit. you just have to not take every review at face value, figure out what matters most to you, and plow forward. my timeline varies--I make some purchases rather quickly while I save up for others, or do more research. I live in a 110+ year old house and I'm always dreaming/scheming on projects. I'd like to purchase a nicer European gas range in the next 5 years, and every once in awhile, I dive into reviews, but more out of idle curiosity. I have an office job and I like to spend a few minutes digging through reviews of items that I will purchase sooner while I'm transitioning between tasks or on a break.

  I have some: shure se215 (2006 ones), shure e3c, sony mdr15ex, akg samsung earbuds, panasonic ergofit, and some xaiomi mi, skullcandy (cant remember) and akg k-44 not earbuds these. best for price IMO are akg samsung. even they only come with mic, sound was amazing... cannot find them only copies not good sounding (look for china made not vietnam, they came w/ samsung cell phones back in the day. sony budget are really good. shure se215 are great but pricey and e3c not that great but flat and not so expensive. xiaomi's suck panasonic ergofit are good but too bassy as are skullcandy (some wired some bt) and do yourself a favor and get akg k-44 or whatever the new model is!

  My 2019 Samsung Galaxy 10+ is still going strong, even after multiple times dropping it and even once dropping it in the tub. The Otterbox Defender holsters I keep it in, OTOH, keep breaking, wearing out and needing replaced.  I'm now needing to go to Amazon to get replacement Otterbox holsters since they no longer carry them.  I think I've broken like six or seven holsters now. I'm on my second Defender case, and I replaced it because I wore down the buttons for my phone's volume and on/off keys.

  A lot of people will say Sony. I bought a Sony Bravia, top of the line and the picture was always dark and it -always- had a software update mid gaming session. In my opinion, Samsung is always top notch. Build quality and views, Samsung has it dialed. My current TV has a partnership with Nvidia to have low lows brightened when gaming and its made a world of difference vs my wife's TV. Live sports, Samsung. Gaming, Samsung. Movies... eh, maybe Sony, but I wouldn't, personally. I'm a Samsung stan after going through 8 or 9 TVs.

  This was us 25 years ago. First apartment needed a dryer and her grandmother gave us one. It looked like 1980 but did its job well. We moved and it wouldn’t turn as the belt broke.   In August, my Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro will turn 3 years old. They're still as new. They hold a charge very well (both the buds and the case), up to almost a week I think. The only downside is that they seem to have some proprietary silicone tips (they're not your typical round ones), and I lost one. Hoping I can order them at a samsung store, but if not, that wouldn't make them 'bifl' anymore. The noice cancelling is amazing, no remarks there. Though, I doubt they still sell them and I have no clue about the newer models.

It's a microwave, it works, I've had it for I guess about 7 months now, wish the 30 second button started the microwave on button push like my old one did (if I wanted to cook something for a minute 30 I would just click it 3 times and it would start itself at 1:30 lmfao). Other than that no issues.   Bottom Freezer Refrigerators with Water Dispenser/Ice maker?

  we have a Samsung Bespoke refrigerator with the french doors on top and bottom freezer. Freezer has ice maker with two different size ice cubes, the water dispenser has a refillable pitcher and option to dispense water to a glass. We have the white glass one and it's basically a dry erase board and we are having a lot of fun with that unexpected feature.

  None will be BIFL now. If you want longevity - look into Miele & AEG. If you want something mediocre (which I’m happy with at the moment) - look into brands like Samsung. It connects nicely with a designated connector - e.g. WW80T washer + SKK-UDW connector + DG52 dryer. Other brands should also have connectors to build a tower.

  I had this exact TV. When I moved I gave it to my parents. They still use it. Meanwhile I have gone through multiple TVs since. For whatever reason, this Samsung model is an absolute gem.

  Hi, what's are some high end tv's in terms of quality performance and other specs.

  The Samsung QD OLEDs have the best color volume and peak brightness is over 2,000 nits. The LG G5 though is easily the best performing TV. It hits over 2,500 nits and provides literally everything else you want. For 99.9% of people, permanent burn-in will never occur because of normal use.

  Looking for good quality Bluetooth earbuds all around including sleeping.

  I use Samsung Buds2 Pro. I forget I'm wearing them (so comfy). I constantly fall asleep with them on, and they have noise canceling which worked pretty well on the plane. Battery life is pretty good too.

  Samsung Galaxy Buds Live are amazing for this. They feel weird at first but once you get used to them, they almost disappear. You can also get silicone socks that go on the buds that help keep them in your ears.  The only thing is that they are discontinued so you have to search for them, and they are open early earphones so the ANC is pretty much non-existent. That said, sound quality is great for what they are and I have no problems laying on my side with them all night. Battery life in my experience is just under a night of sleep

  I use a ~50” Samsung signage display from 2011. It still holds up like it was built yesterday, even though the interface can be simplistic and it’s only FHD. But I love that it’s a dumb TV, no bloat bullshit to worry about.

  SOLIDARITY. Paid over $1000 for my 40” Samsung back in 2007. The audio cuts out on the HDMI now and then, but turning it on and off again brings it back. I could always get a sound bar if I really wanted to. I’ll be taking this television to the grave. Paired with a Chromecast, she’s good to go. Nevermind I’m never tempted to pay for 4K streaming services ✌️

  Replace it with a 65" 4K OLED and your mind will be blown with HDR/Dolby Vision content. Maybe add a nice soundbar setup to go with it and enjoy a surround sound-ish experience too.

  Just never ever connect it to the Internet and use an HDMI Android TV box for content. There you go: dumb TV + more powerful and fully customizable content provider, which could even be updated if ever needed without throwing away the whole TV.

  Love this post. I've seen people hate on Samsung TVs and my 2016 4k HDR Samsung has never had a hick-up. I keep considering getting a new TV and come back to the fact there's absolutely nothing wrong with my almost 10 year old 4k tv. 4K is STILL the standard.

  Those "dumb" TVs are irreplaceable. You're not at the mercy of software updates and the TV never "slows down". Got some budget LGs at home that my parent bought around 2010 that are still going strong!

  Rockin a 2010 Vizio in our bedroom and 2015 Samsung in the living room. Works great. Good news is when they go out you can get a comparable new model for cheap. TVs arent expensive unless you want the latest and greatest and if you are happy with that ole Samsung you won’t need it.

  We're rocking a 2009 Samsung in our bedroom. I'm convinced these "dumb" TV are better than all the Smart ones I have. The picture quality is really good as you noted. And you'd never have them side by side and the minor difference really doesnt bother me.

  I need to keep this phone for as long as possible!

  My current phone is a Samsung Note 10+ that I bought the Black Friday it came out in 2019. At this point, I refuse to upgrade because of the lack of an SD card slot one newer phones. Lol. I have a 512 gb card in here on top of the factory 256, and I don't want to give up that kind of storage. (I have 30k+ photos and videos on here, and have used about 582gbs) The biggest downfall is that the photos it takes could be better. Also I swear that's something that they mess up for you with updates, because I can go back and find photos I took when I got this phone and swear the quality is better on those. Other than that, not a problem. I did unfortunately break the screen in a freak accident like 6 months after I got it and had that professionally replaced. The price for that was astronomical, so when the charging port broke about 2 years ago and kept saying it was wet for WEEKS, and a shop wanted $100 and 4 hours to fix it, I decided to watch a YouTube video and do it myself. $30 in parts and 20 minutes later, fixed. I've cracked the back glass twice and fixed that myself, and also swapped the battery for another oem Samsung battery to get better longevity. I once dropped it in a lake as well and some humidity got into the camera and dried out as spots on the lens that made it blurry, so I've replaced that as well. There are a lot of super easy to follow YouTube videos on how to fix them and the parts are easily available on Amazon and eBay, so I will likely continue to make repairs as needed for the foreseeable future.

  I'm astounded at the prices people pay for phones and the frequency of replacement.  I got a free phone when 3g went down. I kept it 5 years, until I started getting "can't update app, not compatible" and spent $150 on a 5g phone recently, now that it's in my area. I was told how to decode Samsung model numbers, the last digit is your "version" so I went from 51 to 16. The first digit is a way to understand comparable performance, and i do miss the faster response. The A series is lighter and more durable than S. And I lost the $18 a quarter deal I had for at least 15 years, with the change to 5g. Now I'm paying $12 a month. I've also seen the best way to buy a Samsung is QVC Tracfone, you get a plan with it, and pretty much all phones are unlocked now.

  Use wireless charging. The failure point for me with Samsung phones has always been the charging/data port. I have Samsungs s3, s8, and now s23. I traded in the s12 for the s23. My s23 charging port started to fail about 37 seconds after the warranty expired. It still works but it is finicky. I keep wireless charging pads in the areas where I spend my most time. * Bedroom nightstand for overnight charging. * Work office - Pedestal --Sidenote, I do not understand why everybody with a cube/desk at an employer space does not keep a charger at work. * Home office - Pedestal * Kitchen - Pad * Car - Pad My s3 and my s8 I still keep around the house and use on WFI. The S8 has an IR beam that works well with some older devices as a remote control. The S8 also has a headphone, audio socket that lets me plug into some aged hifi equipment

  My s22 ultra is still actually working really great. Besides physical damage, i caused and had to fix no issues. I think in terms of performance, the s24u will hold up for you. There isn't a single app I have that I wish it was faster, etc.

  First off, a phone will never be bifl in this day and age. Non-user replaceable parts which are designed to fail, and software/security updates are important for a device which you keep your life on. Those updates end at some point. That being said. Of all the phones to keep for many years, the S line is pretty good, my wife is finally ready to replace her S10, which she has used since new in 2019. They are way overpowered, so they won't get bogged down as new apps are updated and storage fills up like cheap phones do. Just don't physically abuse it, and it should have no problems lasting another 4 years at least.

  No TV is going to be BIFL. Buy the cheapest TV in the size you want, then buy a Chromecast, Roku, Apple TV, Nvidia Shield, or a similar device for all your apps. Many people are commenting to stay away from Samsung without realizing Samsung makes different TV models, from low-end to ultra-high-end. I have an S90D QLED and have had zero issues. It is a flagship model, though, so that is to be expected.

  Wireless Earbuds that are Specifically *Durable*

  I'm hard on stuff and I have a pair of Samsung buds 2 and a pair of buds pro2 and I've put hundreds of hours on each and I lose them, drop them, dirty and wash them lots. Im in a dirty industry. Tracker works good unless the case is closed, that's why i need a backup. I'm not an audiophile but they're loud and bassy enough for me for buds. Had both pairs a couple years, buds maybe coming up on 3. Ive had one fall out of a motorcycle helmet and gone back and found it. I would have gone through more cheap pairs without the Samsung tracker and the anc works good.

  Samsung TV for over 10 years, zero issues. Samsung washer, over 15 years, just replaced 2 months ago, because it started getting loud. Prior to that, zero issues. Samsung earbuds, over 10 years. One went through the wash and still worked. I noticed that battery life is finally less than when new, so I recently bought new Samsung earbuds Pro 2. For the price, this pair is remarkable. I used it on a 14-hour flight and the batteries lasted, plus it provided noise cancelling against airplane engine noise.

  All appliances bought in 2017 when we purchased our house. Fridge- has had frost build up in the back “twin cooling” portion that caused our fridge to run warmer than spec. This took about 10 hours of defrosting and cleaning to fix but is present after about 1 month. I fear replacement is in the near future. Microwave - the bulbs blew out extremely fast but otherwise it’s been reliable Oven - no major issues, the paint is peeling off up top around the controls AND the door when open sometimes the light flickers intermittently. TV - no issues, we have 2 Samsung tvs one was bought in 2021, and one in 2014. Both work great, we have never had issues. I like Samsung as a brand overall, In the future I don’t know if I would go for a Samsung fridge again, I’m rather upset that there is such a large design flaw in the Twin Cooling portion.

  10yr old washer, no major issues I can recall other than a pesky small leak that turned out to just be my wife overloading it and the gasket needing cleaning. 10yr old matching dryer, had to replace the heating element recently and around 5 or 6 years ago just the thermostat. Inexpensive and readily available part, and literally just Phillips head screws to take the whole thing apart. Oh, and the belt bearing had that common problem where it just starts squealing randomly after 3 or 4 years. Packed the bearing with some grease and haven't heard a peep from it since. So I guess only the washer hasn't had issues, but the dryer issues I did have were very easily fixable and parts inexpensive, so I can't really be upset there. Would I buy another Samsung? Probably not...seems like I just got lucky.

  OP don't pay too much attention to all the soundbar haters. Yes, you can get a better audio setup with real HiFi equipment but probably not at the same price, certainly not as compact and easy to install. I have 2 setups in my house. 1 room a full Denon AVR with 5.1 surround Q-Acoustics speakers and the other is a Samsung soundbar + wireless subwoofer I bought at about 14 years ago. Yes the AVR sounds better, but cost 5x as much and the soundbar is still decent and more importantly has been used almost daily, in recent years by children. The soundbar is a Samsung HW-D450. Low to Mid range, Nothing special. The thing with audio equipment is that it will last a long time if looked after. For BIFL I would avoid smart features like the plague - lots of people bigging up Sonos and they're fab sounding, though expensive, and Sonos have shown they'll stop supporting speakers so **they are certainly not BIFL** I have a Sonos Play-5 that works fine but I can no longer use as it is not supported by the app any more. If you want BIFL, get something that is a basic *dumb* speaker that you can plug another device into if you want to stream, such as the superb WiiM Ultra. 3.5mm, Optical and HDMI are going nowhere soon, so if you have one or more of those you're about as future proof as you can be for now. Get a Bluetooth enabled one if you will use it as a bonus feature.

  I agree, I would love a Teufel 7.1 set too. However, soundbar is just easy and for what most people want it's enough. Not everyone's an audiophile. But as far as BIFL; soundbars are a very temporary thing. You basically replace it when you replace your tv. A proper HiFi set will last you a lifetime. (But that's not what OP asked for, to him, like I mentioned in my other comment: we're happy with the HW-990 C)

Got the PS hooked up to it as a hub, so I turn on the PS, it turns on the surround AND television for me all at once and I've got nothing to worry about.

  I am on my second Ring doorbell camera and Ring Spotlight camera. The doorbell camera stopped working after 5 years and it was hardwired. The spotlight had issues with the led spot lights went bad and would just constantly flicker and the kicker is that you can’t replace the spot lights which is BS because they could easily be swapped out but they make you replace the entire spotlight. If I have more problems with the latest versions I will go to another brand. I have Wemo smart plugs and they have been good for 8 years now and some other cheap no name smart plugs that I only use between Halloween and Christmas for lights on 11 windows for lighting and they work every year and also 8 years old. The only issues is the Wemo sometimes need to be rebooted and the cheap plugs sometimes don’t turn on or off, but the next cycle work fine. I have 7 echo dots all different versions from cheap pucks to large round ones with good bass. I never have had any issues I have the Schlage door lock and don’t have any issues. I have smart washer and dryer from Samsung and their app is shit and never use it. We are on our 3rd robot vacuum and have been 3 different brands. So ymmv on smart items.

  "No bluetooth earbuds will be buy it for life," is a pretty bold statement. FWIW I think my longest used earbuds are my Galaxy Buds (first gen bluetooth). My corded ones eventually had internal wire issues or were eventually phased out due to phones losing standard audio inputs.

  I have yet to see a smart TV do the smart part as well as my Apple TV. They generally are under powered in that regard and perform like crap. Apple TVs are damn near bullet proof. I’ve owned multiple over the years and even my oldest one still works just fine. Buy a tv based on the panel and then use a dedicated streaming box for the best experience. Also, get the appropriate size for your room and seated distance from the screen. Makes a huge difference in terms of immersion. All that hat being said, I recently upgraded to the Samsung s95d and holy shit does it look good.

  You can get nice Sony or Bose ones off eBay refurbished. Straight from the manufacturer and you get a 2yr warranty with them. Turned our Bose ones in 2 times and they just sent complete replacements and only had 1 bud go bad both times. I think Samsung is doing this through eBay as well too.

  I ran a Samsung Series 7 Chonos for a decade and that was my best laptop to date over HPs Ive owned before. I dumped Windows after 30 years and went with a Lenovo Ideapad Slim 3i Chromebook Plus ... I'll never go back. Chrome OS has been a game changer for me. The thing snaps on in a flash, never slows down, and runs like new everyday. $500 CAD and is lightyears faster than any PC I have ever run. Chrome OS is Linux based. Linux or bust is what I have determined now. I'm fully immersed in Google, so Chrome OS paired with Lenovo made sense for me.

  My S9+ still works perfectly over 5 years later. The battery probably isn't what it was new, and it has a couple scratches from dropping it on gravel, otherwise I have no need to upgrade because it has a micro sd slot for storage.

  Maybe its the bottom drawer freezer design that avoids the icemaker issue everyone seems to complain about. I have all samsung kitchen appliances and had no issues with any of them. Never seen a robot vacuum that wasn't garbage, although I've never had a vacuum of any kind that wasn't a disappointment

  A lot of the Asian companies expanded in similar fashion. Mitsubishi - cars, computers, jets, canned food, the Mitsubishi Group cover it all. Take Samsung as another example. Not just phones and washing machines. They do insurance, ships, construction, theme parks and a hell of a lot more.

  I used to trust HTC for quality products but I've shifted that Samsung Flagship products. ONLY The Galaxy S line of phones or tablets. I've had numerous since the S20 and they've all been exceptional. The Galaxy S is a culmination of the best Samsung can deliver. Anything other below that is sharp drop in quality.

  Yeah people are incorrect about Samsungs. If you get a nice Samsung they are built well and the average consumer tend to like their over saturated coloration and brightness. People just get shitty cheap ones then complain that they suck/break. Their ui is complete trash though, but imo Samsung lg and Sony all have borderline unusable ui at this point. I’m at the point where I just purchase a streaming device so I have something that isn’t laggy and full of ads. Source: I sold high end a/v equipment for a number of years

  Unless you need a high-end TV for gaming or some other reason, buy the least expensive best rated one you can find. I tested TV’s for nearly 30 years. Samsung models are good but the remote and interface are horrid. I bought an AppleTV 4K to override them.

  Scenario: You just bought a phone. Should you buy a replacement battery immediately, or wait the "x" amount of years for it to degrate and buy it then, risking no availability?

  This just isn't true anymore. My S10+ was working totally fine even in intensive gaming, but I only replaced it because Samsung artificially stopped providing security updates. The S24 I have now has much more processing power and I don't see a good use for all of that except high power emulation. Which, if I want to play a PC game, I have a PC for. Easier to use keyboard.

  My sister has had hers for 7+ years. We have had ours for 4. We both have families of 4. I've also had good luck with Samsung refrigerators. I like them because they have separate condensers for the fridge and freezer which makes fresh food last longer. Your mileage will vary I guess.
